New wet edge and conflicting instructions

We just had our pool resurfaced with wet edge prism matrix finish. The pool reno company provided detailed daily instructions for what chemical levels to achieve over the next two weeks. When I went to buychemicals today, the guy at Leslie’s (who said he’s been doing this for 10 years) was adamant that I not add anything except for muriatic acid for four weeks. Help!

Jandy variable speed pump.

62,

It looks like you have an automation system.. Is that true?

If so, the automation should control your pump's speed.. And you should be able to use the automation to change the speed to whatever you want..

I am not a Jandy guy, but if you show us the automation panel, I'm sure we have people here that can get you pointed in the right direction.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Doing SLAM and FC getting too high

Best to not swim when the FC is above the SLAM level FC. The FC level should fall pretty quickly if you have organics in the water.

Be sure you can see the bottom of the deep end of the pool before anyone goes swimming.
I thought so. I can see the bottom but it’s still just a tad cloudy. I’ll hold them off for today lol. Thank you!

Starting with liquid chlorine

19,000 gallon pool is vinyl so I know I need to take some care - is it worthwhile to dilute my 12.5% liquid chlorine in a bucket before slowly pouring it in? Any other tips for adding to a vinyl pool?
No. Add the liquid chlorine in a pencil size stream at a pool return with the pump running. Brush the area if you wish.
Should I expect to have to add some liquid chlorine daily?
Yes
Besides routine use, the Liquid Chlorine label says to also put in 50-100 ounces/10k gallons weekly to super-chlorinate. Really? If no algae or other problem do I need weekly shocking? Same question for algaecide - can I stop that as long as no problems and I maintain free chlorine?
'Shock' and algaecide are not needed.
I read that liquid chlorine raises pH, but I do not see that on "Effects of Adding" on the Pool Math app. Does that mean the pH impact is negligible?
The addition of liquid chlorine to pool water (and the resultant reaction with UV and/or organics) is pH neutral.

Skimmer and Drain, Vacuum port, Pool vacuum

I'm having a problem finding a vacuum I've looked at the 4 whew Hayward (expensive to repair )and the Polaris - they all seem to have issues with getting out of the deep endand getting hung up and flipping on their side. What if I just get one of the robots I can drop in run and then pull out? The question then is how is my water circulating? Currently it goes through my side vacuum fitting and also through the skimmer I don't know about the main drains I would have to test those somehow- I tried with my little pH tester and I didn't see the dye being sucked in but maybe I'm doing it wrong. As far as eyeballs I'll have to look into that do they fit right on the cut off PVC that's flush with the side of the pool? I don't think the flow is enough to make much difference frankly I can feel it with my hand. Strong over the large shallow Baja ledge medium in the shallow end and the deep end return is just a trickle . I'm just concerned that my only source of drainage is going to be my skimmer if I plug up that side valve. How do I test my main drains? And what I was actually looking for is a fitting that would go over the side suction intake That would still suck in water it would have a protective covering over it but that way I would get suction from both the skimmer and the side valve after removing the suction vacuum- do they make something like that because I've looked and I don't see anything from my first pass search . Thanks!
My returns are only 1 inch PVC. I have three of them. Like I said the first one works OK the second one fair and the third ones pretty useless so I don't think I'm getting circulation through my returns I think I'm gonna rely upon a suction vacuum? And the vacuum port seems to be one and a half inch PVC with the vacuum fitting being an inch and a quarter I'm just looking for a plug that has vents in it but I can't find one

Clear to brown to green

Hi Friends,
Happy mid-spring! I opened this year to crystal clear water. Then I let 2+ gallons of cover muck slide back in. Do not recommend! Mosquito larvae, oak flowers and all kinds of garbage just turned everything brown.

I immediately made moves to get the filter going, then found a crack in the heat pump. Had to bypass that, and now we are circulating while I wait for the heat pump to be serviced. I added some liquid chlorine I had leftover from last summer.

Vacuum robot has been running almost all day.

Most of the debris is out of the pool but it’s still cloudy and green.

Tested the water to find
FC 16
CC 0.5
Cya 30
TA 60
Ph 7.0
Salt 2600

Any advice on next steps?
Much obliged!!

Skimmer and Drain, Vacuum port, Pool vacuum

Jeff,

Your skimmer should provide all the suction and circulation that you need..

I asked for .... " Show us a pic of your skimmer, looking down, with the basket removed..".. This will tell us if you main drains are working at all.. I doubt they are, but most old pools do not have a working main drain, and they work just fine.. You do not need it..

They make eyeballs that mount to cut off pipe.. Are you sure the return pipes are just cut off??

I'm sure they make more than just this one..

There is no reason that you can't be sucking through the vac port as well as the skimmer, if you wanted.. If you do that with the hose off, you really need a cover that keeps someone from sticking there arm against the open port..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Starting with liquid chlorine

After many years of pool ownership and battling rising CYA due to the trichlor pucks, I am starting off this season using liquid chlorine based on all I have read on TFP. I have my TF Pro test kit so I can manage the numbers myself. A few questions:

19,000 gallon pool is vinyl so I know I need to take some care - is it worthwhile to dilute my 12.5% liquid chlorine in a bucket before slowly pouring it in? Any other tips for adding to a vinyl pool?
Should I expect to have to add some liquid chlorine daily?

I read that liquid chlorine raises pH, but I do not see that on "Effects of Adding" on the Pool Math app. Does that mean the pH impact is negligible?

Many thanks in advance!

New member trying to break old pool store habits and find an inexplicable source of copper...

Do you have distilled water? Fill the pH tube 1/2 way with distilled water, then fill the rest with pool water. Test and post picture of pH.

Go to pool math, gear in upper right, scroll to bottom and enable sharing with TFP.

Half distilled water. I checked both of the options on the sharing on the app.

Pool cleaner recommendation for stubborn debris?

Loki,

I had the Dolphin Premier and I doubt it will do what you want..

Does it look like this...?

View attachment 647163

If so, it has two small suction slots and very small filters... It is a 10 or 15 year old design...

I've moved on to the EVO, but I am not sure it would work for what you have.. Seems like the cones would just get jammed up in the suction ports...

Not sure it is even possible, but I would try to find someone local that will let you try out their robot for a couple of days.. Some Pool Stores have loaners.. Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure if a robot will work, or not, is to actually try it...

Thanks,

Jim R.
Yep that's the one I was looking at. Thank you for the real-world advice. I'll have to see if any of my local pool stores will do a loaner.
