Sta-Rite System 3 Filter Body Leaks

After 20 years in service my Sta-Rite System 3 DE filter is leaking where the top and bottom sections of the body come together.
After cleaning and recharging the DE the filter would sometimes drip a little bit for a few hours and then would stop dripping (I presume that DE filled in the gap(s) where the water would leak. Unfortunately, after several years the leak was much worse and didn't abate. I then purchased a replacement O-ring, thinking that would solve my problem. I believe it did, at least until my most recent previous cleaning. The leak returned, worse than ever before. I have an automatic pool cover so my water evaporation loss is minimal, but now the water level drops much faster than ever before (because of the filter leak).

I just now finished cleaning the groove in the lower filter body and the corresponding sealing area on the upper body. The O-ring appears to still be in good condition. I applied a generous amount of Pool and Spa Lube and Sealant to both areas and reassembled everything, tightening the clamp knobs about as much as I could with my hands. STILL leaking, but in just one location now. I have not tried cleaning and lubricating the clamps to allow them to slide tighter more easily, perhaps I'll try that tomorrow.

Any suggestions anyone??

Pentair ic40 flashing salt level good low (red) (green) before pump even kicks on.

The old IC40's had 4 wires.. You can use the 3 wire flow switch to replace a 4 wire flow switch.
The new IC40's have 3 wires. You can not use a 4 wire flow switch to replace a 3 wire flow switch..

None that I know of have only two wires. I think you got the wrong flow switch..

We always recommend that a salt cell be at least 2 x the volume of the pool.. A 28K pool needs a 60K cell.. Maybe that is why yours do no seem to last as long.

weak water jet flow

Have you opened the mpv and checked the spider gasket for any failures? A failing spider gasket can allow water to bypass the filter causing a drop in pressure.
Thank you. I just did that on your recommendation, replaced the diverter and gasket. So far it is working great. I was at my wits end trying to figure it out. Thanks again

Looking for a wireless pool thermometer

Thanks. This is the thermowell I purchased : Amazon.ca

It indicates 1/2 npt.

I might have exaggerated a bit, with force I can get it to fit most of the way (and I did not use plumbers tape, yet) . That said, it sounds like I probably shouldn't be applying as much force, at which point if I am also using plumbers tape I expect the thermowell would bind at about 75% of thread inserted. Still much further than the pvc cap will go... Sounds like its probably ok with either option as long as both bind at some point before full insertion, hopefully?

Help please! Placement of SWG cell on Split Return Plumbing?

el,

I would want the SWCG to feed the three returns in the sidewall of the pool. Does not make sense to me to put the SWCG on a water feature that you often have shut off.. If you set the Jandy valve so that some water goes to the pool and some to the water feature, you will have to run the pump twice as fast as you are splitting the water flow.

Your only valid option is to replumb the pad.

I am a huge SWCG guy, so you know what my answer is already..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Adding swcg, where to install?

Pushing it closer to the fence would definitely be the easiest. Access wouldn’t be a particular problem, as the pool fence is easily disassembled (this is what I do when I clean the filter, as I don’t have to carry the cartridges across the pool deck and can take them directly to the area I use to spray them off).

To answer questions: to the left of the filter is the pump then the timer and power supply, so moving that direction would require electrical work. Moving to the right would require elbows for the lines, taking up much of the space I would be attempting to gain, as well as put the filter too close to the gabian walls.

Help please! Placement of SWG cell on Split Return Plumbing?

Hello!

We moved into a new house recently and had the pool resurfaced with Pebbletech. Decided to install a SWG after reading about lots of positive experiences and now hoping to lean a bit on this community for assistance with the installation.

The pool is 20k gallons that is currently balanced and about 25 days post construction (been brushing daily). The SWG unit is a Circupool RJ60+. As you can see from the pictures, the plumbing returns are split and controlled with a Jandy valve. Currently water is flowing through the return that leads to 3 jets spaced out around the pool. The valve is closing the return that leads to a dedicated jet in the middle of the pool. That space (circled in red) seems to me like the obvious place to install the cell, but what do you all think? Would it be worth the hassle of re-plumbing that area in order to place the cell prior to the 3-jet return in order to get the best chlorine circulation?

I hope I described that correctly, please let me know if anything needs to be clarified (first time posting). Thanks for all the help!!
