Proper settings for a Pentair VSF Intelliflow pump in southern California to prevent algae?

Welcome to TFP! Please go to the signature section of your TFP account and add pool size and equipment data. It will help all the volunteers here provide you more accurate advice. Your pool guy is sort of wrong. The only thing that prevents and kills algae is the sanitizer chemicals (TFP...

Pentair cc core (part # 59053800) be repaired?

Ignore my previous post! I didn't notice the part number in your title. Based on the age of your filter core, I'd say it would be best to buy a new core. Gluing the tabs back in place would not last long in pressure and water chemistry.

Pentair cc core (part # 59053800) be repaired?

From your description, I'm unsure what part "the core" is. Forum members may be able to give you a better idea of a potential fix if you post a photo of the broken part. If it is the core of the filter cartridges, best to buy new.

    Return Placement in Kidney-Shaped Pool

One thing to consider about skimmer placement is the predominant direction of wind in your area. I did not do that and my skimmer is on the opposite side of the pool from where the wind blows debris. For example, the wind in Tucson is predominantly from WSW and my skimmer is on the west end of...

    PVC Joint Leak

Another option to try before a "remove and replace" operation is Xtreme Tape. https://www.amazon.com/X-Treme-Tape-TPE-XR1510ZLB-Silicone-Rectangular/dp/B00HWROO7E/ref=sr_1_5?crid=3INM9XKV5CW1O&dchild=1&keywords=xtreme+tape+silicone&qid=1616077417&sprefix=xtreme+tape%2Caps%2C207&sr=8-5 This...

    Krylon Fusion -- Paint

I've used it with good success on PVC and other plastics. The surface must be clean of dirt and other contaminants (grease, etc.) but it seems to adhere very well and hold its color out here in the hot desert sun.

Questions/Suggestions for Floor Cleaner, Skimmer, SWG and Pump Speeds

In reality my electricity use for the pool is about $1/day. I estimated this based on the Tucson Electric Power (TEP) average cost of $ .09/kWH. Not bad at all. However, I think I may be unnecessarily stressing the floor cleaner and the pump by running it at those speeds for so long.

Questions/Suggestions for Floor Cleaner, Skimmer, SWG and Pump Speeds

Been thinking about how I'm running my pump, SWG, floor cleaners and skimmer. If you note my sig, I have an EasyTouch panel and QuickTouch 4 remote (as well as an Autelis WiFi controller). Currently I have only two programs (circuits?) set up, a low speed (1600rpm) for the skimmer and a high...

    Pentair Pump Installation

When installing the new pump DO NOT use a 90º fitting directly from the pump. Most pump manufacturers recommend you use at least 6" of straight pipe from the pump outlet before trying to change direction.

    filtering at night

With the VS pump and SWG you should be able to test run several scenarios to determine your current kW/hr use. Given those numbers, you can reset your TOU to take advantage of the lower $$ on electricity. The VS pump is the biggest savings you can get for pool equipment.

Most reliable, energy efficient pool pump?

I've had my Intelliflo VS pump since Apr 2013. Just replaced the Pentair IC40 SWG (installed at same time) two weeks ago. Got 5½ years out of the IC40 running it about 6 hours per day 9 months a year at 70% setting. I'm hoping I get another 5 years out of my pump!

    New pump and accesories

Your pump/filter install looks very good. Not sure about your area, but most cities/counties have a code requirement to paint any exposed Schedule 40 PVC pipe. Even if your area doesn't require it, it is always a good idea to paint any Sch 40 PVC pipe. Its not just to "clean it up." Sch 40 PVC...

    Best Pentair cartridge filter replacement?

I bought the Pleatco replacements for my Pentair 520. They seem to be as durable and efficient as the originals. FYI, I bought them right after the pool was installed in 2013. When its time time clean the cartridges, I simply put in the second, clean set and do a thorough cleaning of the dirty...

Frost Advisory last night, this morning the hose bib flew off the return side

More information is needed. If you could fill in a signature with the information about your pool and equipment, folks who are familiar with your pump could chime in and help. Meanwhile, where is the hose bib attached? Did the hose bib fly off during the pressurization of the pump? Pictures of...

2nd set of filters so I can rotate cleaning

Sorry for the late reply. Misplaced this thread link. Anyway, I use less than 1 quart of Simple Green in about 35-gallons of water. The solution doesn't foam a lot but it does foam up. I let it soak overnight (or 2 days) then rinse thoroughly using a very strong stream of water into the pleats...

2nd set of filters so I can rotate cleaning

That is exactly what I did with my Pentair Cartridge Filter. I have 2 sets of cartridges. When it is time for a cleaning, I simply remove the dirty ones, install the clean ones and restart the system. I then soak the dirty cartridges in a Simple Green solution in a large plastic tub for 24 hours...

Do I have a rogue pump?? Or Rogue ET8??

I've not experienced the exact issue you describe, but I've had minor problems with the logic board in my ET8. It was under warranty and my PB sent out a Pentair rep who replaced it. That was bout 2 years ago and no problem since then. Actually, from your description, I suspect the problem may...

    Cartridge vs DE Filter

Check my signature and you'll see I own an oversized cartridge filter for my pool. I, too, only clean once per year. However, I own two sets of filter cartridges and simply swap out the dirty ones for clean ones (takes about 30 minutes). I then soak the dirty filter cartridges in a large trash...

    filter pressure vs flow rate

:paddle: Ah ha! You did understand! 10/12 = 0.8333 and 0.8 is well within "engineering approximations" for any value of +/-10%! Because of the number of variables involved, the answer your original question #2 is: "It depends." Every pool is different due to the variables already mentioned...

    Pentair Automatic Valve Logic Question

Sorry for the delay in responding. After re-testing the valve actuator by taking the cover off as you suggested, I determined the motor has died. New user here - questions about setting up my new VS pump

Welcome to TFP! Here in Tucson the key to saving $$ on electricity and having a crystal clear pool is to be certain your SWCG is producing enough chlorine to overcome the sun burning it off. If you haven't already, get a recommended test kit (TFP-100 or Taylor K-2006) and take charge of your own...

    Pentair Automatic Valve Logic Question

Just tested the voltage on the EasyTouch panel to the valve actuator. It has good voltage, in fact, I accidentally shorted across the wrong pins (fat fingers!) and the low voltage circuit breaker popped on the EasyTouch panel. Looks like I need a new ComPool actuator :(. Oh well, could've been...

    Pentair Automatic Valve Logic Question

Thanks for the reply! I just tried the switch and there is no movement. :thumb down: Sounds like I need a new actuator. I'm guessing it is possible that the Easy Touch panel could be failing to send power to the actuator. Any idea how I can test the panel?

    Pentair Automatic Valve Logic Question

I have a total Pentair system (see my Signature) with only one valve. It is an automated valve that either opens the flow to the floor cleaner or closes it and opens the flow to the normal circulation returns. I recently installed concrete pavers around my pool equipment for better drainage and...

    what speeds?

The issue of a "stagnant" portion of your pool may simply be the return vents are not aimed correctly. A pump speed of 1750 RPM should produce plenty of "thrust" to circulate the water around to your skimmer. I run my pump at 1600 RPM for my "skimmer only" program and I can watch the debris...
