New to Pool in North Texas

Hello: We just installed an Aviva Eden 32 fiberglass pool up near Gainsville. First time pool owners and this is day one after "pool school" by the builders cleaning guy. So I have no idea what to do or focus on first. Do I worry about spraying the deck with water, or getting the water chemistry right immediately, or what is the best approach. I am ordering the recommended test kit today, but beyond that I will be reading and studying here. Any links to posts that address my situation would be appreciated.

New post on an old thread

if a thread started by someone on December 2nd, with the last post to that thread made on December 10th, what is it that makes a March 1st post likely to be unread or unseen?
Nothing. It will probably be seen/read by the thread participants.

Again, we have 18 years of TFP threads and you are focusing on a tiny fraction of them. The overwhelming majority of those threads fit the description.

We read each and every post and all that is taken into consideration. Your helpful post to a relevant thread, with currently active members, will likely stay. The older the thread, the more earth shattering the new idea needs to be.

If its a 'me too' without any real help, it will me moved or deleted, no matter the age of the thread.

Nobody respected the 1 year suggestion so it became 6 months. Nobody respected that so it became 90 days. Nobody respected that, so it became 60 days. Nobody respects *that*........ :ROFLMAO:

In short. There was a need for the rule. As with any rule, there are exceptions. If the OP hasn't visited in 60 days, they likely won't see it. Many don't even return ever again.

New post on an old thread

I guess I don’t really understand how the explanations provided apply to a post that doesn’t really fit into the stated explanations (ie, the downside consequences), referring to a post that isn’t hijacking, is otherwise pertinent, responsive, helpful and accurate . . . but simply happens to be past the 60 day time frame. After all, each of the stated downside consequences can occur with timely posts.

I guess I could have phrased my query better: if a thread started by someone on December 2nd, with the last post to that thread made on December 10th, what is it that makes a March 1st post likely to be unread or unseen? Parenthetically, does it still get elevated as a “new post” and thus becomes as available as a recent posts and threads, correct?

The foregoing is raised with my fully understanding and appreciating the efficacy, usefulness and housecleaning objectives of the mods in providing the 60 day admonition so as to to prod the reader to pose a question as a new thread and not glob onto one that is really dated. But just seems 60 days is a pretty short fuse IMO, particularly when the post is not a question but an elucidation (e.g., updating or correcting an older thread/post).

Edit: FWIW, admittedly, curiosity is a sometimes bothersome element of my nature

Pentair Screenlogic and Intelliflo pump keep losing connection to Easy Touch panel

Welcome to TFP.

What is displayed on your pump control panel when it will not turn on?

The pump control panel should show “Display Not Active”. If it does not then you have lost the RS-485 data link to the pump and probably Screenlogic.

Show us pictures of your EasyTouch panel with the panels open and showing the connection to the PCB in the upper panel.

Disconnect the Screenlogic antenna from the RS-485 connector and see if the pump then shows display not active. If so then your Screenlogic antenna has a problem.

Or disconnect the pump from RS-485 and see if Screenlogic works.

New Hot Tub Owner - Taylor Test Kit

The guide mentions strong artificial light. Would 'Bright White' LED pot lights suffice?
No. It is a turbidity test and is reliant on high lux lighting. You want bright sunlight or even slightly overcast...print and read the article...

Very roughly speaking, direct overhead sunlight is around 100,000 lux, strong indirect light (i.e. shaded from the sun) is around 10,000 lux, an overcast sky is around 1000-5000 lux but varies on how overcast (which is why a bright white cloud overcast is still OK), indoors is usually < 1000 even in a bright kitchen or LED (more typically 500 lux).

Certainly in a pinch, use what you have. Since you are right at 30, doing it correctly will show you what 30 SHOULD look like.

Yes. Make sure you do it with strong sunlight.

Print these out, they help to do the test correctly:
Thanks. I'll have to wait until tomorrow. Dark here now.

I dumped the water sample. Okay to do the CYA test using the water with the fresh dose of Dichlor?
Yes. Make sure you do it with strong sunlight.

Pentair Intellicenter set up help

What firmware version is your Intellicenter?

Update your panel to the latest 2.026 firmware on the Pentair website. See Pentair Automation Systems - Further Reading

As of November 2024, the Add New Account may be timing out and not letting you establish a new account to connect your panel to the Pentair servers. There are currently incompatibilities between the 1.064 firmware and the Pentair Server. To create a new account, try the following:

  1. Download Pentair POOL app
  2. Open Pentair POOL and insert your email and password into the app. Eight characters, such as Cap, lowercase, number, and at least one special character, are required for the password.
  3. At the panel, Kill Intellicenter for >1 minute.
  4. Check to see that the internet is present.
  5. Go to the Portal and enter once again: Add New Account... even though you just established an account.
  6. Enter the email and PW you established in the app.
