No power to SWG - Aqualink

Replaced the PID board, no change in values on any test points. Submitted warranty claim for SWG, which is only 2 years old.

Question - if the SWG is bad, will the voltage at the cable feeding the unit be zero or near zero, which is what I am seeing? Assuming the resistance is zero or near zero, the Voltage in the circuit would be zero or near zero. Is this what occurs when an SWG is bad - resistance goes to zero?

Intellicenter heater automation

Now the heater bypass actuator will automatically open and close when the heater turns on and off with no additional programming required.

Intake, Return, and Heater Bypass actuators will all automatically operate with changes in POOL, SPA, and HEAT mode.

I don't know what you want to do with your skimmer/MD actuator or why you need it.

Intelliflo3 reviews?

dj,

Just to make sure...

The IntelliFlo3 does not have the same form factor as the standard WhisperFlo pumps.. This means that you will have to do a little plumbing work to connect the new pump.

If your old pump was not installed with pump unions, you will have to replumb anyway, but if you do have unions, the IntelliFlo3 is not a drop in replacement..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Why do you say I should spring for the 3hp?
dj,

The bigger the pump the slower you can run it and still move a lot of water.

The slower you can run it the less it costs to run.

The slower you can run it the quieter it will be..

I have a older 3 HP IntelliFlo and run it 24/7, most of the time at 1200 rpm.. this costs me less than $20 bucks a month.. And.. the newer IntelliFlo3 pumps are much more energy efficient, then my old pump..

At that speed, you almost have to touch the pump to make sure it is actually running...

VS pump are really variable HP pumps... you just adjust the HP of the pump to match what you are wanting to do.

I am assuming that your current pump is being run from 240 VAC.. If you do not have 240 VAC at your equipment pad, then obviously, you should get the 1.5 HP pump.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Welcome back Time to pull the trigger need some help

Thanks for that user experience, How long have you had it?

My issue is this is a vacation home and I will be off site a few weeks. Guess I can have a friend baby sit it for me, I just don't want to return to a swamp - LOL
We're just starting our 3rd season. I wouldn't go back to jugs of chlorine for any price.

I was away for 2 weeks last year, never had to touch the pool...FC was a little on the high side when we got back basically because no one had been using the pool and the cover was on all the time. Another trip for a week where the wife stayed at home using the pool, came back to FC being exactly where it was supposed to be - no interaction required.

Its not 100% hands-off, you still need to test and tweak if needed, but once you understand YOUR pool's demands, it's about as close to hands-off as you can get.

I also have some ad-hoc monitoring setup to ensure that power is getting to the pump/SWG etc, and some extra failsafe's beyond the flow-switch (if the pump stops, power is turned off to the SWG/Heater etc).

Can I get some thoughts on this estimate?

Ah ok generally these are called "sun decks" but tanning deck is good too. So 1/2 the pool is a shallow tanning/sun deck and only a 16'x16' swimming area? How deep is the pool?

This is my 42'x22' with sundeck.
Thank you for clearing that up for me

The sun deck size is 16 wide by 8ft, then a step down, then the pool slopes to a depth of 54 inches with no deep end (still discussing final depth.

Side note: Thanks for the discussion. It is helping me to think through everything. When I try to talk to my girlfriend about it all she can say is "Yes, do that!"

Cracked filter lid

In preparation for the warmer weather I decided to give a thorough cleaning to my DE filter grids. Pentair FNS 60 sq ft.

I got some bad news that 3-4 of the grids had significant holes in them.

I put everything back together to have the filter running while looking for new parts and forgot to open the pressure release when starting back up..

I sent my lid into the neighbors yard (could have been a lot worse) and cracked it.

So now I need to replace the grids and the lid.. Its a 2014 so over 10 years at this point..
More cost effective to replace the whole unit at this point? If so, with what?

Polaris 280, typical pressure? Drive axle can be stopped incredibly easily

My sweep has been functioning very poorly for a few months, and finally not working at all. I took the wheels off to find the inner teeth nearly stripped smooth on the two-wheeled side, opposite side seemed fine. With my booster pump running and the wheels removed, I’m able to stop the drive axle with a light touch from my pinky. Is this normal? I think I’m not getting tons of water pressure from the booster, I’m wondering if there’s a leak underground.

There are rebuild kits on Amazon for like $100, but I want to be sure there isn’t something more profoundly wrong with the sweep itself.
I have rebuilt mine at least twice. That turbine needs to replace every so often as that drives the wheels. Ensure that tube that leads to it is clean, not cracked or leaking.
Changing the gear wheels is important.

CircuPool is having an upgrade sale if price is playing a component in your decision.
Also, I read in another post that CircuPool was coming out with a model that had remote access to it. Suggest you call CircuPool and discussion your needs and see what they offer.
Price is important for sure but want to get best most reliable system of one stands out. If equal I’ll go with price /warranty.

New Build - Vinyl Pool - Final Planning Prep - Digging Stage

Thanks! Any pics?

Also, is yours not the walk-on lid, as to why you ask the kids not to walk on it? I am being sold the walk-on flat aluminum lid by coverstar and told no problem for anyone walking on them at all.
That's the one I have, I was told the same thing, but I choose the better safe than sorry method. Not the best of photos, but I attached a few and can get you some better ones.

What kind of light is this

Agreed, and of course it’s the light furthest from the panel and we can no longer just change bulbs… is there any definitive way to tell between the globrite or microbrite while it’s installed? The bulb face is about 2” in diameter. When I zoom into pictures it ‘looks” like maybe only the microbrite has the protruding plastic tabs but dimension and description details seem to be lacking on the web.
EXCELLENT SMITHERS! Thank u sir, that’s the info I needed. Bulb face definitely less than 2.25.

Can I get some thoughts on this estimate?

Nah his wording is just off
it's 16x32, with a 16ft wide 'tanning deck' is what he called it. If there is a better name, let me know.

No drawing yet - the builder and I walked it through onsite and I painted some lines on the ground where the pool would go.
Felt to me like he wanted to get an estimate in my hands so I could decide if I want to move forward from there.

Same with suggesting vendors. Looking to purchase this week so I can have it installed ASAP.

Intelliflo3 reviews?

dj,

Well, it looks like you answered your own question...

I have only seen positive comments about the IntelliFlo3

Besides the optional relay card, you can also get an optional display..

You can get a 1.5 HP option or the 3.0 HP option.. I never, ever recommend the smaller 1.5 HP model.. I just beleive that bigger is better when talking about a VS pumps.

Here is a good link to the different options...

Thanks,

Jim R.
Thanks for the link. Those prices are good and the relay is already installed. Why do you say I should spring for the 3hp?
