Jandy pump failure

I thought there were heat protection switches. What you're showing there is just straight up bare wire. It's weird. Yesterday it was working, kind of. It would run, then trip the breaker. It would buzz but not run, then trip the breaker. I was hoping that finding that loose screw, I'd put it all back together, and wa la! I at least expected it to do what it was doing before. Now it's just dead.

Polaris PB4SQ Suction Leak

I’ve been dealing with bubbles in the pool return for over a year, as mentioned in this thread: Polaris PB4SQ Suction Leak

I first followed the wisdom that bubbles are a suction-side problem and I set about replacing o-rings, tightening lids, watching soap bubbles, etc. All to no avail.

A buddy who used to do pool maintenance pointed out there’s no way that amount of bubbling was from a suction-side leak, because the filter pump would never have been able to pull a prime, which it did. So it had to be pressure-side.

Wouldn’t you know it, my Hayward puck chlorinator is essentially a Venturi injector. And digging into the lid yesterday, I see a kink in the o-ring, quite possibly letting the Venturi draw air. I straightened out the kink and carefully reinstalled the lid, et voila, the bubbles are gone.

I’ve got a new o-ring on order, and just wanted this out there for posterity, that bubbles in the returns CAN BE caused by a pressure-side leak.

(Now I have to figure out why fixing that leak caused my spa water level to draw down by something like 12 inches overnight, assuming they’re related. 🙄)
The first thing you need to figure out is why you are using that heater-destroyer called a tablet feeder, especially with a MasterTemp and its very low plumbing. Get rid of it and get an SWG.
Do you have a raised spa? The tab feeder could have damaged a check valve, allowing water to drain.
Those feeders were designed for use on commercial pools where the pumps can run 24/7. Most municipalities now require that they be removed because of the issues with rising CYA and low pH that they cause.

New pool build in Middle Georgia

Work will begin on April 3. I'm responsible for getting my lawn irrigation piping cut/removed before installation and then rerouted after the pool is completed. I usually used my handyman, but unfortunately, he passed away two weeks ago. How much does it usually cost for this type of service? My pool contractor gave me his recommended guys to do that, and I just want to make sure I don't get robbed.

Tiles falling off hot tub

Pool was build end of summer 2019. We had 2 stones off the hot tub in the last year or so, the builder came and wasn't interested in fixing them. We woke up today to the pic of the multi stones falling off, many others around are loose. Our builder says it is weather related it expansion blah blah. I don't see adhesive around these and feel like it is shoddy work. We have other issues with the pool: rocks leaking ( could be from a freeze but we aren't sure), our concrete is not level and one part of it is angling itself into the grass. We are having repairs done by a different company b/c we don't trust his work anymore. I am just curious If anyone has thoughts why the stone would be coming apart, is this lack of a good mixture, lack of adhesive, rain storm?

Taking Up Concrete deck around pool and beach hotel-type property to replace with faux grass and pavers

Hi! If you've had any experience in taking up concrete around a pool and beyond to replace it with something with better aesthetics and more permeable, please reply! How was your experience and are you glad you did it? Any before and after photos? We are considering this..and wondering how much time it will take and if it would be worth the cost and effort!? Thanks for any ideas or comments.

When Should I Add Salt

Hi all, I would like to know when I should start adding salt to the pool. I am currently using liquid chlorine in the pool and need some advice around adding salt. Do I wait until the pool temp stays above 60' or higher? Also, what are the directions for adding salt into the pool and running the pump and SWG. I think I need to maintain above 2,500-3,000 ppm for the SWG to function, but pool math has it set to 1000 ppm. Please confirm what your suggestions are. Thanks,

You can add salt now.

Set PoolMath to your SWG salt requirement of 3,000 ppm.

Pool Return Aerator Help

Why do you think you need to aerate? pH will rise on its own.
What is the TA of your water. Can you post a full set of results?

As for the return, there should have been a tool that came with it...have anything that looks like this?

As for aeration, I decided not to go the plug in route...I didn't want to damage the return. Here was my solution on a sump pump...

Pool Return Aerator Help

I have a newly re-plumbed and plastered pool. In my old (circa 1958) in-ground pool, I had only 1 copper return. The builder just now put in all new PVC including new skimmer, main drains, vacuum port and 3 returns.

I need to raise pH so I need to aerate. I'd like to know how these return jets work. There is no eyeball or directional piece. There appears to be a cover ring with 2 little tabs which makes me think the ring is threaded on and I can twist it off and reveal threads that an aerator can screw on to. Take a look at the pic and see if you recognize it and can recommend an aeration product.
(Sorry about the picture quality but it is taken thru the water from above.)

I have no idea of the manufacturer / brand of the returns but I'd like to find out what options there are to add aeration to them and then later to direct them downward after I fix pH with aeration. That's probably 2 separate items, I would guess? Thanks!

Pump/Motor starting to make some noise

You will never see oil, there is none in a pool motor. Any lubrication is inside the sealed front and rear bearings and is a very small amount. Water leaking past a shaft seal can cause the lubrication of the front bearing to fail.
I have only seen one motor of the many hundreds I have replaced or had repaired with a bad rear bearing. If bearings are replaced, it is best practice to replace them both, even if the rear appears to be good.
Just went out now that things have dried out and no sign of water leaking at all and no white like you might see if there had been leaking and the noise is gone. I will monitor it closely, maybe it was just a fluke, however my intuition says probably not.
