Hi from Texas

I looked at your PM logs. It shows 1 puck added 3 weeks ago, another puck added 2 weeks ago and a 3rd puck added 6 days ago. You also tested CYA 6 days ago and it was 60ppm.
Each puck adds 3ppm of CYA per calculations.

Losing 3-5ppm of FC is about right for summer, high UV in Austin. Therefore continue to add LC daily to maintain the FC in the target range.

The use of LC will decline when the seasons change to Fall then to Winter.

If you were to use pucks on a continuous basis, you would need to put a stack of them in. Each puck adds 4.9ppm of FC (when fully dissolved). This would be one puck a day fully dissolved to meet your FC loss demand. They do not dissolve that quickly, therefore the need to have a stack of them to get the effect of 1 on a daily basis. This is why puck chlorinators hold 6-10 pucks. Then you add more weekly. However as you can see, you will also be adding 3ppm of CYA per puck. So that could be 15ppm or more a week increase and your CYA will be skyrocketing high in a matter of several months.

Based on the FC/CYA Levels, you need to keep your FC level higher and higher. If not, then you risk algae, plus you have to drain the pool to reduce CYA.
This is why liquid chlorine is preferred or even better install a SWCG.

Damaged Waterfall Weir

Did you have the "rain" effect or a "sheer?" The sheer is available here according to the website:
FYI. This is a fraudulent website. I placed an order a week ago. They charged more than the total order amount, but they use Paypal, so I have a dispute filed there. They never sent an order confirmation. They did not ship the part. They do not respond to emails. Complete scam. Be careful.

On the bright side, this Jandy part number is the right part, and is still made by Jandy and in stock. I can't buy direct from Jandy, but my local pool store has ordered the part. Thanks for the help.

Adding salt

I wish there was ANY identifying mark on the pool. When I bought the house, the solar heater receipt was in there and it said 10k, but that was added well after the pool. Leslies said 13k based on dimensions, but the same guy tried to explain how I could turn my swg off because it wastes salt and the salt is what keeps algae away, and that's how he keeps his own pool so clean, so yeah... I base calculations on the low end of 10k, to err on the side of caution, but it always seems low, so pretty sure it's bigger than 10k.

That said, good points above. I'll add the second bag now, test on Monday evening, and go from there. Thanks!

Featured She's Back! And ready for Season 2...

She’s up! I can’t believe how much bigger going from 16 to 18’ was. I can’t imagine what I would do if I had gone 20’! 😳😳

I’ll throw some water in to get it weighed down. And then professional fill comes this week!! I could not be more excited!!!
Good choice on the water! You have been through enough! Happy Mother’s Day 💐

Yellow pH sample slowly turns purple

Most likely, the "Adjusted" or Carbonate TA is zero.

What is the CYA?

Borates and Adjusted Alkalinity

Adjusted TA = TA – (CYA X CYA C.F) – (Borate x Borate CF)

Borate C.F (correction factor) based on pH.

pH.......CF

7.2.....0.051

7.4.......0.0786

7.6......0.1248

7.8......0.1989

Cyanuric Acid correction factor based on pH.

pH........CF

7.0.......0.22

7.1.......0.24

7.2.......0.26

7.3.......0.28

7.4.......0.30

7.5.......0.32

7.6.......0.33

7.7.......0.34

7.8.......0.35

7.9.......0.36

For example, if the pH = 7.6, TA = 90, Borate = 50 and CYA = 70, the adjusted alkalinity is 90 - (70 x 0.33) – (50 x 0.1248) = 60.66.

Jandy Heater not working - weird squeaky vibrating sound?

Hey everybody,

Pool season is starting up again so I fired up the heater for the first time in a few months and it didn't work! When I turned it on, it made this weird wooowoooowooo, squeaky, vibration like sound. And then I ultimately get a Fault Check Ign Steps error message. Anybody experienced this issue as well and if so, any thoughts on what the problem is?
