One of the builder told me the following:

2” PVC plumbing is not necessary on a pool of your size. The filter manifold , valves and fittings would all have to changed as well. If you want to increase it all , the pump size to 2 HP and the pipe to 2”…. there will be an up charge of $1150.

Details matter old friend. Alot. 😁

(But that's why you have us, to force the details you might overlook)

........ speaking of details.

Any and all changes need to be spelled out to the letter in the contract, and/or added and initialed afterwards.

They broke a couple of my bricks installing my safety cover on the first pool and said they'd come back in the spring to fix it. We had a great relationship and they had done me right through the build. I trusted them 100%. But the manager left over the winter and I had no relationship with the new one, or proof that the repairs would be done for free. I went to the owner, they did ultimately do right by me, but it taught me that lesson.

Do you think running 2" pipe is better and worth it?
I do with a 3 HP, but we need the breakdown. Exactly which pump, and how much for the plumbing upgrade ?

(All clearly written in the contract)

P.S. Hayward uses 2.7 HPs and its fine.

I'm looking at the Hayward VS900 and it says 1.85HP. Not 2.7 or 3.

Hayward VS900
There's a couple of tri stars. Unless I'm missing it, all I see on the quote is 'tri star VS'

And the $1150 supposedly included a pump upgrade and plumbing upgrade. So find out the specifics and report back.

Is there any "control" panel or similiar I can integrate into my equipment setup to have "smart" features/controls? Not sure what would be controlled, imagine just the lights. Should I do any automation?

There is, but without any water features it serves no purpose IMO. Some people have cleaners that use the pool plumbing and it's super nice to have that all scheduled. Or to flush the spa / waterfall / bubbles twice a day. Or heat the spa on your way home from work. You have none of that.

The pump, swg and heater too. But those are just party tricks for most people.

Some people love their toys/gadets, and I'm usually one of them, just not here.

I could swap out my old school light switch with a smart switch for $30(?) if I wanted to control it from my phone.

I am getting a robotic cleaner. Can that be automated/controlled remotely?

No, yours plugs into an electrical outlet, not the pool plumbing.

The suction and pressure side cleaners start working when the pump comes on. Nobody is controlling the cleaner, they are just turning the pump on at set times.

I believe the robots can be scheduled to some degree on the control unit
