Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

My goto is always Rural King. 10% case of 4 gallons for $9.99. It's usually pretty fresh too. I bought 10 cases (opened late so I'm SLAMming) that were less than two weeks old last weekend.

    Chlorine levels not showing

Welcome to the forum! You found the right place for your pool answers. The test kits that we recommend are the TF100 from TFTestKits.net and the Taylor K-2006C. Those both use the FAS-DPD kit for testing FC. That's the only way to accurately test the level of FC in your water. According to...

Can I make lemonade out of this lemon: 50 year old pool?

Mmmm....nothing better in the summertime than a tall glass of lemonade! Especially when you're enjoying it on the deck of your pristine, DIY fixed pool!

    Green pool

If I recall you were a little low on the CYA. You could use some tablets over the weekend to help keep your FC up knowing that it is going to up your CYA a little. But just brining the FC to shock level will probably be safe to leave it for a couple days.

    Green Water - Pollen?

If you have a manual vacuum hose for the pool, those work great. Just put the vacuum head on it and feed the entire hose into the water to make sure it fills with water. Then pull the end over the side and lay it wherever you want the water to go. It'll drain pretty fast with that bigger hose...

Pool flooded after storm after opening - greenish/cloudy

Wow, that's an awesome looking pool area! Welcome to the forum! Your best bet is to get some liquid chlorine and start what we call a SLAM. But you'll also need good test results to get through the SLAM since test strips can't accurately measure anything. We recommend the TF-100 from...

    Green Water - Pollen?

Being that this is an above ground, I'm not sure that the previous recommendation stands. I think mknauss was speaking of an in-ground vinyl pool.

New To Pool Testing and FC Issues- Marietta, GA

Re: New To Pool Testing and FC Issues- Marietta, GA Looks like you need to drain about half of your water and refill. I'm not sure on the particulars but you don't want to drain a vinyl pool too far before adding water. I have had mine down 18 to 24 inches before (the bottom of the light niche).

    Beginner. Cloudy water.

You can swim up to the Shock level for your CYA as long as you can see the bottom of the pool.

    Green Water - Pollen?

Hi and welcome! You found the right place! You need to buy a good test kit. We recommend the TF100 from TFTestKits.net or the Taylor K-2006C. Until we get some accurate test results, keep adding a gallon of liquid chlorine a day and run the pump/filter non-stop. Also, read through Pool School...

I am so confused! Zero CYA and Zero Chlorine Reading

Wouldn't hurt to brush the pool or vacuum any debris in the mean time. Ohh, did we say don't add any stabilizer? :D Once you have the test kit (which one did you get BTW?), we'll need a full set of numbers: FC CC pH TA CH CYA

I am so confused! Zero CYA and Zero Chlorine Reading

Hi and welcome! Definitely keep adding FC until you get your kit. Also, fill in your signature with the details of your pool. Your are probably safe to add a gallon of chlorine a day but post your pool size so we can give you a better idea. EDIT: Do not add anything but chlorine until you get...

    Beginner. Cloudy water.

Now that you have the pH right, time to start your SLAM. Read through the process a few times so you understand then try to test/dose the pool as many times as you can (leave an hour between) but no less than twice a day until you pass the three criteria on the SLAM page. This process can take...

What do I add to my routine next? New in ground concrete owner.

Welcome! You're in the right place! Make sure you read through Pool School (link at the top of the page). You have a concrete pool so you need to make sure your CH is correct. But run a full set of tests FC, CC, pH, TA, CH and CYA. We'll need to know all of that to get started.

Open pool FC level during shock question.

Welcome! If you've been lurking a while, you know you are going to get a recommendation to get a good test kit. The TFTestKits TF-100 is my choice, as well as plenty others on here. You can get the Taylor K2006C from Amazon if you would like as well.

New house, new pool, and an uphill battle

Ditto that! I, for some reason, forgot to work on my CYA before starting a SLAM this year and went through 20 gallons in 2 days!

4.5ppm fc loss during day. None at night ?

Full sun on my pool all day and I run CYA 50 - 60. That helps keep my FC loss to the sun at a minimum.

New house, new pool, and an uphill battle

A leaf rake (has a bigger net than a skimmer) and blind rake the bottom of the pool. Take small scoops at first as that rake will be heavy when you bring it up if there is a lot of debris down there.

New house, new pool, and an uphill battle

Get a good leaf rake (the kind for a pool, not for the yard!) and scoop out as much muck as you can before starting the filter up. But filters are made for that, just keep an eye on the pressure rise. When the pressure goes up 25% from your clean pressure, you need to backwash. And when you...

    New to the forum...Hi!

Welcome! Looks like your pool gets plenty of sun so the CYA 60 isn't terrible. I keep mine at 50 with full sun. Just make sure to check the [FC/CYA]FC/CYA[/FC/CYA] chart for the proper levels for your CYA. Looking good!

    General questions about AGP

Pump run time is up to you. You should atleast run it long enough to turn all the water in the pool over once. A lot of people run it more though to skim the surface. And time of day is again, up to you. I run mine at night to take advantage of the cheaper electricity, then just manually turn it...

Brand New Pool Owner SWG TA question

That CYA test takes a little getting used to. Best way seems to be: 1. Stand in direct sunlight. 2. Turn so your shadow covers your hands (so the sun is at your back). 3. Hold the CYA tube up and fill to the next line. 4. Hold CYA tube down at waist level and glance into the tube. 5. If you see...

First time trying TFP, pool just opened

Test the water now. You need to know if you should add some bleach. After you have set up the SWCG to run, you'll need to test often until you get the hang of where it needs to be set. The solar cover will help keep evaporation down and possibly a little of the chlorine burn off.

    Does liquid chlorine go bad?

Maybe they meant 4 quarts which would make it the equivalent of about 5.25%. That makes a lot more sense.

    In-Ground Leak

I'll check again this evening to see if the water level has in fact stopped on the light. I was just noting where the level had gotten to at that point, not saying that it had settled there. I did have the light out at some point this summer as when brushing it, it popped out and floated to the...

    Do you have pool regrets?

In our case, had the house not been so nice, we wouldn't have bought with a pool in the back yard. And if there hadn't been a pool in the back yard of the house we bought, we wouldn't put one in. $30-35k financed is just not going to happen around our household for the luxury of swimming. For...

    What to do temporarily?

Keep your FC level at target using bleach. I guess you could use pucks until your CYA is at your target but for the money, I think you would be better off just buying some stabilizer and adding it that way. Then just use bleach to chlorinate. You can find out what each puck will add to your...
