Green pool

More of an update. Decided to test the CYA and the dot is only dissappearing right around 30 despite me putting enough CYA in the pool to get it to 38. Not really sure what to base my shock level on . I've been keeping it at 16 or trying to rather but the readings are saying 30. Wanted the forums opinion on this one as I'm still a newbie. I did have to add water with backwashing and general hotness evaporating water last week. Any advise is appreciated!

Back washing will lower CYA. Evaporation does not.

The test is only about +/- 10 ppm accuracy so saying you added 38 ppm, and realizing your pool volume is never perfect, testing a 30 is not surprising.

You can go to SLAM FC 12 if you like.

Take care.

Appreciate all the help given to me so far.

I have a few more questions, what is the definition of clear? It's not clear but I can see the bottom on the shallow end now, however, I still can't see the main drains in the deep end which is like 8+ feet. I can't even see the outline of the main drain yet.

Also, I'm noticing a few strange things happen in the evening, I will take the test between 4:30 and 5:30 and add chlorine it needs to get it back to slam level. When I go out to test it around 8'ish it is right around the level of SLAM or a little higher. When I go back out at 10:30 or later for the final test. It is exactly at SLAM or it has went up (happened 2 evenings in a row now). I don't add chlorine at 8 or 10 PM if it doesn't need it. The funny thing is though when I check it in the morning for the over night loss test it has dropped 1 or 2 ppm both nights it's done that. I mean I have been checking it around 6:30 AM which is definitely after sunrise. I can get up earlier to check if you guys think it is a good idea. Thoughts?

OK so an update.

I've been passing the overnight chlorine loss test for about a week now. The pool is clearing up but I still can't see the bottom of the deep end though the bottom of the shallow end is very visible. I have to go out of town this weekend and am sort of afraid as I dont really know what to do. I want to keep the chlorine up but not at the expense of making a friend come over and poor bleach into my pool. What do you guys suggest?

If no one can add chlorine over the weekend then your only option is to raise your FC to SLAM just before you leave and deal with it when you return.

Clear water. Some say being able to read heads or tails on a quarter in the deep end or whether the drain cover has standard or phillips head screws or TFP Clear in North Dallas - there is water in there

Imagine you are looking into your pool, but you have to ask yourself it there is really water in it because the water is so clear that it looks like air. THAT is "clear". And is definitely attainable with the TFP methods.

I'll keep sending my buddy pictures like this until he quits going to the pool store

Ya I have some leftover tablets I will keep it at slam and put some tablets in it.

I've read this thread.
Deep Cleaning a Sand Filter

Do you have to drain the filter when doing the deep cleaning? I'm not 100% sure I can get the multiport valve off. It looks like 2 of them are glued on with that blue glue stuff but they are on flex pipe. The other one which is the waste port appears to be a union. I guess that means in theory I could get it away if it wasn't glued. I'm sure it's super disgusting as I've been here for 4 years and I haven't done anything with it. The previous owner swam in a green pool so I know he didnt touch it and he was there for 2 years. The house is only 11 years old so the owner prior to the previous owner might have done something with it.

Anyways so far this place has been awesome I just need to get all the dead algae out of my pool...lol which is what the cloudiness probably is right?

So I'm calling the slam complete as I can see the bottom clearly but the pump will continue to run 24/7. It only took an epic ton of bleach as seen in the picture.

Thanks for the help.

Also should i post here if I need help taking off my multiport valve to clean my sand?

Perhaps better to start a new thread to focus on that subject just in case it ends-up getting a bit long. :)

Congrats on completing the SLAM!
