want to measure pH of non-pool water solutions of pH 4-6.

I am interested in measuring pH of non-pool water solutions (urine) in the range of pH 4-6. I assume I should get one of these? Any suggestions or knowledge of any of these or where do you suggest I buy a meter if you dislike these? I find paper strips crummy. Thank you...

Just when you thought you heard every question possible

Below in my signature you see my pool equip. My pool is no more, so I don’t need any of this equipment. Here is a paste of my buddy’s pool specs, a much smaller above the ground pool vs. my in-ground. 7,200 gal vinyl AboveGround 19.25Ft x 39inches deep round; by Summer Waves Elite Intex...

How should I handle not opening?

For a variety of reasons I'm not gonna be able to open the pool this season/summer. I'm used to treating the pool all winter long with the mesh cover on, the pump not running, dosing it with chlorine and whatever else it needs which is usually nothing because it is properly closed/winterized in...

On the PoolMath site- salt value

On the PoolMath site, for my pool that does not use a salt generator, I am supposed to enter 0 in the "salt" category right? It seems to default to 1000 . Thank you

    Vinyl pool vs. plaster

My friend just got a above ground vinyl pool, about 20 Ft across x 4 ft deep (I'll get the specs from the manual for when I use PoolMath calculator ). I know how to care for a plaster pool, but I'll get asked to help him, is there anything I need to know? I can still use the same BBB? Bleach is...

OK to remove cleaner's filter permanently?

Is it ok to remove the cleaner's filter permanently at the pump station? I only use a pool skim and never a floor cleaner (RayVac etc). My PoolSkim runs 100% of the RunTime. If you guys OK it then it will save me the trouble of cleaning the filter. I do realize the stuff that currently gets...

    help me use this product

Can you help me use this product ? Neighbor gave me some free stuff , called Pool Shock by In The Swim Calcium Hypochlorite 68% Other ingredients 32% A 1 lb bag will raise 10,000 gal 5-10ppm I can follow the FC ppm, but I assume it has CYA as the " Other ingredients 32%". How much? I add CYA...

Less chlorine needed the more the pump runs?

Yes, I realize the water will be better filtered but I thought chlorine use/demand was more an issue of organics, sunlight, CYA. What is the relationship between pump run time & chlorine use? I happen to be lowering my TA via aeration so running the pump 24/7, man way less chlorine. I was losing...

After adding CYA do not backwash/clean the filter for a week.

I read "After adding CYA you should leave the pump running for 24 hours and not backwash/clean the filter for a week." Kind of a bummer at opening? The CYA is close to zero & you really want to keep the FC up via CYA so you add CYA. But you also need to backwash often after opening. I'll just...

Is it okay to reroute my cleaner line?

I never use a floor cleaner, I only use a surface cleaner (PoolSkim ) on my cleaner line. I just got a brand-new sand filter and the plumber who installed it said that he likes my filter pressure and the way everything sounds (less stress on the system) when my cleaner/PoolSkim is on full...

Please help me select a new sand filter

My sand filter needs replacing because there is a leak. The leak is in the very bottom, somewhere under the housing that it rests on, that housing came with the filter when it was new back in 2010, so I got about eight years out of it. Is that normal? Doesn't matter I suppose? The water loss is...

leak, unlikely location- bottom of filter?

I have a leak at my pump pad area. Everything above ground has been carefully evaluated and the leak is definitely not above ground. The most likely place for a leak I assume would be one of the pipes coming from underground up to the pump pad? What throws me a little bit is that when the water...

    Walmart 12% chlorine

Can someone please post the link to it, I can't seem to find it. Thanks

Walmart bleach- careful 6% vs 8.25%

Reads "concentrated" on the front display label but the ingredient box reads 6.0%. Either they have the ingredient box wrong, or, the contents wrong. Their "concentrated" has always been 8.25%, there "regular" has always been 6%. Walmart needs to be contacted.

    Unique spring opening plan

I have some issues this spring that are going to keep me from opening my pool in a normal fashion because it will be impossible for me to attend to it like I normally do. I am hoping some of you guys can comment on if you think my plan is okay, if you don't think so then I will just have to come...

please suggest how to handle this leak.

For the past couple weeks I have suspected a leak because of abnormal water loss, we have not had rain and it has been unusually dry and the pump pad area remains wet so I was uncertain. It is not been unusual to see a little but a water around the pump pad over the years, but I keep the pump...

Please explain the direction of flow & how it works

Here is a picture of valves related to my "jets". The words I assume are correct because the sticker was fading and so I painted them. 1- are my flow arrows correct? 2- I don't really understand how it works because it is separate from the rest of the plumbing system in the pump station. I...

Please help me find the necessary plumbing parts

I will probably screw this up if I do not ask. Furthermore it's going to take me a long time and I'll probably still screw it up with wrong parts. And I know some you guys are so familiar with this kind of thing that it is second nature so it would be a tremendous help to me. Here's my...

    brush bristles coming off

Which is fine with me, it is a combo brush & I want a metal brush. No major worries with them in the pool? They'll get dissolved or backwashed out? Or that’s all kind of stupid, just get the metal brush? Best way to get them out faster is leave it in the sun or you have a more clever way? Thanks

    rope in pool

What kind of rope is safe in pool water for extended periods of time? Chemically with respect to not interfering with ideal water chemistry, physical properties with respect to not creating to much of a filtering/ skimmer/pump issue when it inevitably starts to break down before I replace it...

Condition of plaster conducive to algae?

My pool has needed replastering for quite some time but I'm going to delay it as long as I can (comments appreciated about that plan too, have you seen people way too long and then have more problems than simply replastering?) It's not unusual for the grout lines between the tiles + in some...

(Truck tire) inner tube OK in pool?

Or do you guys not like the idea? They will be used by being in the pool about 5-6 days per week just sitting in there doing something I am fiddling with (homemade pool cover). Or best to keep that type of tire rubber(?) etc. out of the pool and instead use traditional vinyl (?) pool rafts or...

Relationship btw filtering/runtime and chlorine usage

A few years ago I posted asking about pump runtime and it was determined that I will get the necessary water turnover per 24 hours just running the pump about 6-8 hours per day, which I split up in two sections. This year for some reason I seem to be going through a little bit more chlorine than...

pump basket emptys please help me troubleshoot

Pump sounds good but basket has no water in it . Pretty sure I got lucky & happened to catch it before it burned out, but maybe not, maybe she 's cooked because the pump ran with an empty basket for too long? Moto didn't feel hot, sounds ok, kind of "starts" ok (see below). I noticed more air in...

    Please help with plumbing repair

Is there a way to permanently seal the hole where my automatic chlorinator broke. I never use it. It is a relic from prior to TFP. Do they make a plug or is there a way to permanently seal it somehow without cutting pipes? Am I correct that the part that broke threads through their and so...
