    Umbrella sleeve size

Final detail. :) One builder told me he uses a 7.5” sleeve….current builder said they always use 6”. Both don’t care which I choose, I just want to make sure I can put any umbrella the Mrs finds into it. Do all umbrellas fit into the 7.5? Curious if anyone has an opinion on this. Thanks!

Trying to find a smooth plaster finish.

We used Wet Edge on our first pool and really liked it. It was as smooth as a basketball court and no slipping. However, currently in central Texas there are limited applicators for this and they are not very responsive. How smooth is quartzscapes? I’ve also heard Pebble Tech has a smooth...

    Efflorescence during curing?

Hi all, I posted earlier where I read continuous hydration was a good thing for curing. I started using soaker hoses about 12 hours after gunite. I went to drain the few inches at bottom of pool tonight and I see this white stuff all over bottom. Is this scale or efflorescence? I’m now assuming...

    Glacier Pool Cooler plumbing

Anyone have one of these? My previous pool did and we are putting one in a new build. The plumbing is running to bottom center of pool as instructed for new build. I got an email from tech support to just put a drain cover over the top. I currently have two A&A drains in the pool. I was...

Size of opening for spa overflow?

I have a 7’ x 8’ spa that’s being redone. The previous opening was 3’ and water seemed to almost go under the lip instead of over like a nice spill/flow. I’ve gotten feedback “because it was too wide” or “water wasn’t pushing fast enough.” At times it ran “ok.” And sounded nice. I had to turn...

Soft sounding water features for three-foot tall wall?

I have a three foot retaining wall that is 52’ long against the back of my pool. Photo attached. I am having to rebuild this wall (too long to explain story atm). We currently have water sheers x2 that are each 36” wide at the top of the wall. Problem is they are really loud when running and...

Feedback on stairs and water shears from initial 3-D drawings.

Doing a remodel. Long story, I’ll post about after this new build. Curious as to what y’all think about the stairs. Previous pool first step had same depth as tanning ledge but resulted in a 14” first step that was rough for some people. This now raises the first step to be about 6”. I’m doing a...

    Getting started soon. Finishes/plaster?

I had a wet edge finish in my last pool that was awesome. My new builder primarily uses PebbleTec. I really liked the smooth finish…I called their pebble rep today and obviously he couldn’t get off his product…but did support if we wanted a smoother finish. They’re launching one at the end of...

Centrifugal Pre-Filter v Water Feature Filter

Hi all, My pool was impacted by the Texas storms a few weeks ago. Luckily most damage has been repaired and was just some medium to minor areas around the equipment. Due to the current part shortage a pool tech my builder uses is suggesting a centrifugal pre filter to protect waterfalls since...

Variable speed pump for water sheer?

I have a Pentair whisperflo that was damaged in the Texas snow storm. My two sheers are each 36” wide and about 36” off the pool water. So, they can be loud at times. So, my question is if I get a variable speed for the replacement...do they work well with water sheers? Can I dial back the flow...

What to turn off in order to repair plumbing?

Hi all, I am not a pool expert, nor close. My pool builder and maintenance company usually handle all I need. However in recent storm that hit Texas....everyone is booked solid. I finally had my maintenance company out today and they got my pool running again. I had damage to a couple valves...

Looking for good repair company in central Texas.

In Austin, and like others got damage from the winter events. Broken pvc and possible pump damage. Believe I saved the filter. No leaking water or spa...just looks like mostly pvc and likely the waterfall filter and pump. I am in line with my primary service company but they have hundreds if...

    Texas freeze pool protection

Hi all, A serious freeze is hitting Texas this weekend...like the coldest since 1980 or so. Single digits and freeze for likely 24 hours plus...my freeze control is working great now and switching between pool and spa. Questions: 1. I typically run my water shears for 30 minutes a day just...

    Pool Color

We are having a hard time deciding on color for our pool. Our decking is a buff lueders. The pool is a sport pool and 4.5’ all over. We live in Texas and I’ve heard lighter may be better due to the sun/heat. We are really liking the Wet Edge Primero Stone finish. Very smooth and many color...

    Wet Edge Primera Stone

We just saw a color in this style we like for our finish. It is really smooth which seems nice, but my question is: is it slippery? We’re building a sport pool and will be walking and shooting basketball etc...has anyone even encountered a slippery issue with this finish? Appreciate any thoughts.

    Cracks in gunite/shotcrete

Hi Pool Pros, Have a pool under construction in Austin and have a thread on it...but wanted to start this one for the thread title to see if any experienced builders have dealt with this issue. Looking for feedback on plumbing/hydraulics

Ok, long story short. PB installed and in-floor cleaning system and I didn’t realize it until after shell was poured. He is a good guy but never explained to me I was going to have an in-floor system. After seeing all the pipes and realizing I was going to have 25-30 ‘sprinkler heads’ at bottom...

    in-floor cleaners versus other types

I have a build going on in Austin. I found out they are installing and infloor cleaner. My only concern was the number of small drains/spouts I would see. There are two on every step and several throughout the pool. Attached are an image of pool and image of the spout/drain and pool coating we...

    Pool Steps

OK, I have a thread under new build in Austin but wanted to start this on stairs as it's our last major problem solve. This pool is 4' 6" throughout. Originally the steps as you can see were set to come off the tanning ledge. The people tanning have asked if we can move those. At 4.5 feet of...

    Pentair Globright lights vs Intelibright

I like the smaller size of Globrights.....in the image attached you can see the locations. Will this be enough lights to adequately light the pool? There are three that will be directed across the 19 foot area and one in the ten foot area. Also, any maintenace issues with globrights? Thanks...

    Same depth pools

I have a thread in the under construction forum but wanted to post a specific topic here to get opinions. I am seriously considering 4.5’ all around this pool. Originally we were thinking 3.5 to 6 or 7 ft. I’ve recently been in pools I really like that have all the same depth and you can...
