Variable speed pump for water sheer?

I have a Pentair whisperflo that was damaged in the Texas snow storm.
My two sheers are each 36” wide and about 36” off the pool water. So, they can be loud at times.
So, my question is if I get a variable speed for the replacement...do they work well with water sheers? Can I dial back the flow enough for it to be less loud? Or does a sheer have to have x amount of pressure just to work?

Appreciate any thoughts.

What HP was your Whisperflo pump?

Sheers flow rate determines the arc you get. The flow requirements are in the sheer installation manual.

I believe it is 1HP. And yeah, I was looking for less arc/water pressure. Didn’t know if a variable speed would allow me to do that and still get a nice flow with less noise.

A higher HP VS pump will let you dial in the flow you want. It will run quietly at low RPMs. The higher the VS pump HP is the slower and quieter it will be.
