Main drain line corrosion signs

Pro,

Well... that is not good... :(

Let's 'assume' that Leslie's numbers are correct... (which I doubt..)

1. A TA of 70 is just fine, you can go down to a TA of 50.. They are just trying to sell you Alk up.
2. A pH of 8 is just slightly high and not all that bad for a saltwater pool.. Most Saltwater pools run at 7.8.
3. Phosphates reported at 197 ppB.. Parts per Billion.. So in reality this is Zero.. Unless of course you'd like to by some PhosFre... You'd have to be in the thousands for this to be high.
4. You have a saltwater pool and they did not test your salt level..

Depending on your SWCG, a low salt light may mean your cell is not making any chlorine... What SWCG system do you have?

With a CYA of 80 you need to have your FC between 6 and 11.. You are at 2.2.

Anything less than 6 ppm of FC can lead to an algae bloom..

A lot also depends on how cold your water is... But I 'assume' the water in your location is well above 60 degrees..

We take care of our pools a lot different than what Leslie's suggests.. We are not here to sell you anything...

Do you still toss in bags of "Pool Shock" on a weekly basis??

How many hours a day do you run the cell? And how big in gallons is your pool?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Unexpected CYA test result

That doesnt mean that I didnt test it myself.
Then I humbly apologize for implying otherwise. But 'who' used the digital tester is irrelevant. We don't give advice from them whether it's a handheld or a spin touch at the pool store. Sometimes they agree with Taylor, but we never know which time that is when it's presented.

Photometers are particularly bad at CYA.

Unexpected CYA test result

I'm saying a digital tester was used for those results.

We have learned to stick with Taylor drop based tests. :)

That doesnt mean that I didnt test it myself.

Has anyone compared numbers from a Taylor kit to this? If not, ill buy a Taylor kit tonight and post the comparison after running the pump.

Unexpected CYA test result

I just tested my water
From the #s you posted, you did not.

You 'had them tested' and said tests have proven time and time again to be inaccurate.
Alkalinity 107
Calcium 118 (down from 184)
FC 6.5
CC .3
TC 6.8
Copper .37 (down from .5)
CYA 94 (up from 60)
PH 7.4

Test Kits Compared

Wall cracking

I agree with others, drain the pool!
d
Our old pool's liner went after about 20 years. We were set to replace it but when we took the liner out there wasn't any bottom rail left so nothing to hold the pool wall together. I was surprised with that and the amount of rust throughout the inside pool wall.
We just replaced our liner two years ago and saw no rust! It’s crazy! And we just bought a new filter system for it about 2 months ago….Ugh! Thank you for your feeback. We are currently in the drain phase...

Hi from Texas

Honestly this is very confusing right out of the gate. I’ve bought the $80 kit, chlorinating liquid from Walmart, and now need to buy the app it seems.
You don’t have to buy the app, it will work just fine, just can’t save test results and chem additions. It is 8$ per YEAR.
How often am I testing cya?
Every couple weeks.
I just compared my results to Leslie’s and they’re off (fc 2.23, ph 8.1, ta 105). Who should I trust?
Your kit.

I have 50lbs worth of pucks, do I keep using those until cya gets too high?
Sure. Switch to liquid when you get to about 60. CYA will degrade 5-10 per month.
Then how do I know how much and how frequently to add lc?
Test and add daily. Use pool math for how much.
Can I use muriatic or liquid acid on fiberglass?
To lower pH? Yes. Pour it very slowly in front of a return, then brush a bit to mix.
I think someone here said yes but Leslie’s told me no. It’s all very confusing for a new pool owner.
It gets way easier!

Do I have the wrong Pump Motor?

mine is a thin round o-ring and that one looks to be flat
could it be that the housing gasket shown recesses back in a groove? making it looks like an o-ring
SPX1600T is a flat gasket.

Is this Dichlor? Is this Potassium Monopersulfate (MSP)?

Two more questions if I may:

1. How do I measure the Dichlor granules? By weight? What is 1ppm equal to in a measurement?

2. When can we start using the hot tub? Once I add my first batch of Dichlor and get some sanitation going and the chlorine ppm is testing between 2 and 6, is that okay? Do I need to balance out pH and TA first also?...My wife and kids are about to revolt 😆
