Do I even need a valve?

Yeah I think the sandy 9s is a little bit of pea gravel mixed with sand, I was just thinking of using it since I have so much of it. But yeah it's got pine needles on top etc, so I might be putting organic material into a filter, which sounds like a bad idea.

I have the MWII ready for return, it's going to be a PITA, but the Aquaquartz from Leslie's is what the filter seller recommends and they had it locally for half the price.

How many bags of pea gravel do you think I need for a 24" filter? I planned on 6 bags of sand, so do you just replace 1 of them with pea gravel, then laterals, then sand?

Any pitfalls with using Dichlor shock during a SLAM to quickly increase CYA and lower PH?

Are there any pitfalls with using Dichlor during a SLAM if you need to increase the CYA and lower the PH, as long as you stop when CYA gets to 30 or your PH gets to 7.4? Will it lower the alkalinity if I use it? If so, how much? Right now, it looks like the CYA is around 20, the PH is around 7.8 and the TA is 50. Last night, I added all of baking soda I had to increase the alkalinity and it only raised it to 50 ppms. If dichlor could lower alkalinity, I will go buy some more baking soda to increase TA to 60 before adding the Dichlor. I’d really like to use Dichlor unless there is a legitimate reason not to use it because strong thunderstorms are expected tonight and tomorrow and I don’t want to go out in the rain to squeeze a sock full of cya and I don’t like handling muriatic acid. It looks like 3 pounds of Dichlor will lower the PH by .42 and raise CYA by 10 which will get us close to the recommended targets.

New installation - Low pressure from spa jets & heater issue

Does the heater run continuously to the setpoint now?

Were the gas pressures checked with a manometer with the heater operating after the new gas meter was installed?
Yes, the heater runs continuously to the setpoint.

No, the gas pressure wasn't checked... I'll have to get a hold of the plumber that installed the gas line and have him check it. Here's a link to the video on youtube.

Is that sound expected? or it shouldn't be making that noise?

Horse pool

Yes. It seems to be $709 everywhere. But shipping changes it .
The biggest problem right now is finding the 7 way valve . Everyone has 6. Not that I know the difference lol
Do you mean the mpv? You need backwash, filter, recirculate, drain & rinse- thats 5 settings. Some may also have winterize but all that does is prop the handle up - you can simply do that in between two settings

Questions regarding my new "Sense & Dispense" w/Acid feed

Hi all,

I installed a Sense & Dispense system with Acid Feed reservioir/pump this weekend. It seems like everything is working well. One thing I'm having a hard time getting my head around is the mV reading of the ORP sensor. I have a salt cell installed with my OmniPL Panel. I'm assuming its adjusting the chlorine generation automatically as needed. My questions are:

1. Is a 615mV reading acceptable?
2. My ORP set point is @ 740mV. If the setting is @ 740mV, why is my current reading 615mV?
3. I tested the FC level last night and it measured 2ppm. IMO, this seems low. What are your opinions?

Thx.

What did you do to your pool today?

Well, not pool related, but this post concludes my lost filter plug saga, and might enlighten others to something I just learned. I'm talking about my sewer backup problem, that I thought might have been caused by the filter plug I flushed. It wasn't. Just an odd coincidence that they happened within the same week.

So the plumber shows up early. Two trucks. Crew of three. My brain goes into ka-ching, ka-ching mode. They find the clean out, in the middle of my pool pad no less. That's my filter, and the smaller cap is the one that sucked down my filter plug. The bigger one, which I've never opened, is appararetly my house's clean-out. Great place for it. :(

So they fire up the snake. They get three feet down the bigger clean-out and crunch-crack. He hauls out the snake and the part he just broke. This was in my sewer clean-out (yellow end up):

check valve handle.jpg

He doesn't know what it is, but guesses it's part of my sewer system check valve. Did anyone know sewer lines have check valves? I sure didn't. Apparently, a good thing to have when your house is close to or lower than street level. Which mine is not. He recommended I get rid of it, which sounds good to me (since it was the reason I had the blockage, not the filter cap). So he proceeds to bust up the flapper, which is still in the sewer pipe and blocking it, with a long pipe. And that was the end of it.

Then he ran the sewer cam all the way to the sewer main. The cam operator moves the screen from my view, and the boss says "Well let him see, he's paying for it." Ka-ching, ka-ching. Turns out my entire sewer line is as clean as it gets. No crud. No roots. No filter plug! Good to go.

So they pack up and I cringe when I ask "how much." $250. I was floored. Extremely reasonable (IMO). Such a relief to have the problem solved, and solved permanently, and to learn my 15-year-old sewer line is in great shape. So worth it!!

So today is a good day. I caught a break. Though I gotta admit, that bucket bath felt so good I may have another... just because I can.

So What Did You Name Your Pool Robot(s)

Well, the old Dolphin was call Dorfl, and was a reincarnation of the original Neato BotVac we had in the house, who was called Dorfl.
The new Evo-604 was called "The Swim Sweeper", but that hasn't stuck, and it's basically re-inherited the Dorfl name.
The new House Vac-Robot is called Linda. My wifes idea. IYKYK...NSFW.

So, Dorfl has been reincarnated more times than an accident-prone Gallifreyan and is of course named after the Golem in the Discworld novels.

I need help! Above ground pool

Good afternoon everyone,

I would greatly appreciate your input and help.

We recent built an above ground pool 21ft round, steel walled.
The pool is built on compacted stone dust ~3-4" and is level or very close to.

We initially used sand as a base and filled it with a foot of water. There are foot prints all over it and I hates how it looks.

We picked up 1inch foam boards (pink ones - the "good ones" in terms of R value) And I ordered a foam cove.

Question is.
One I drain and remove the water.
Should I remove the sand completely before installing the foam pad? Or can I try and compact the sand and level it out a bit and put the foam on top?
What about the cove? Can I go onto of a sand base?

I want it stong and avoid additional work. Removing the sand will take a long time.

Inconsistent/wrong salt level reading

I bought a new Hayward AquaRite system. Cell is T-3. From day 1, the salt level reads low. Ranges from 200 to 600 PPM. I had the water tested at my local pool supply store and they confirmed the salt level is approximately 3200 PPM. I had them test the cell and it's fine. I replaced the control panel and that did not fix the problem.

Any ideas? Any way to bypass the salt sensor?
