Free Chlorine issue

a curious question. i see lots of you here use SWCG on their pools. are you able to use this on an above ground steel pool? I thought I read that it is not recommended due to salt
All chlorine pools contain salt. Many “non salt” pools will have the salinity level of a salt pool after a few years.
All manually added forms of chlorine add salt to the water along with Muriatic acid, calcium chloride, and of course the salty people 😃
Moisture rusts pools and is the real enemy.
Keep the moisture away from the pool wall.
Some above ground pools may have their warranty voided if not “rated” for salt use & its expressly worded in the warranty.
Many are “salt friendly” or whatever they say. It varies by pool model. There are many “salt friendly” pools on the market.

It reminds me of mattresses, not too long ago in order to keep your fantastical 20+ year warranty you had to buy the matching “foundation” and prove that you had a sufficient frame to support the mattress. Fast forward to now and they will sell you an adjustable frame bed with that same exact mattress that lets you bend it in half & it’s suddenly ok! They simply lowered the warranties (that they rarely get taken up on or approve anyway) and are making more money on the frames.

Pentair Intelliflo vsf pump issues

Went to start my pump after the winter and the light came on briefly and then shut off. I popped off the keypad and inspected the circuit below to find water in in. I'm going to try letting it dry out, but if that fails, I'm assuming I'm in for a full drive replacement? The pump is already 8 years old so debating repair vs replace. Any thoughts on one vs the other?

The Story of 3 Fried Phones

The IP8 standard only states that the device will suffer no permanent harmful effects from being submerged. Temporary impacts, until it dries out, are permitted.
That may be the technical reality, but that certainly is NOT (was not) the implied capability in their advertising. Samsung got sued in Australia and had to change their advertising, although it was weaseled into edge cases around port corrosion. They 'implied' you could not only take it underwater, but you could use it too ;)

If you dig into their disclaimers enough : " Based on lab test conditions for submersion in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes and for protection against a solid object greater than 1 mm such as a wire. Not advised for beach or pool use. Water resistance of device is not permanent and may diminish over time because of normal wear and tear. Not dust- or sand-resistant. "

So, might be ok, but outside of the Lab, in anything but clean water, at any time after you bought it, all bets are off. So basically, you have no recourse...don't get it wet ;)

Their ads used to imply you could go swimming or surfing with your phone....except the water protection doesn't cover Salt or Chlorinated water...seems like they've been toned down these days

A quiet pump for my above ground pool

Opened the pool this weekend and having had the plumbing work adjusted to fit and the electrical work done, i got to fire up the Calimar 3hp for the first time.

HOLY COW this thing is quiet. Its right next to the pool and you can barely hear it running. On high speed it makes a bit of noise but i will never run in at top speed.

First time trying to SLAM, help needed

Welcome to TFP.

You are not doing anything wrong.

Your algae enjoys eating the chlorine. Keep feeding it chlorine after every test. That is the MAINTAIN part of the process.

Maintain a FC of 12.
Ok, will do! Just to confirm, it'll take 24 drops of R-0871 to = 12 FC once it gets to that point, right?

I knew I was Pool Stored when...

But the price goes up by $12? Something does not compute.
I expect we're boardering on the political (a no-no at TFP), but prices of pools and components is a legitimate topic (IMO). Anywho, we know from the pandemic woes that corporations will leverage anything that might increase their cost to exaggerated increases in retail prices, because most people can't be bothered with the math that you just did. And then we pay those exorbitant prices, which just sends the message to the corporations "Yep, we'll pay." Which is why prices "necessitated" by inflation (or tariffs) never come back down when inflation/tariffs subside.

END OF RANT

Which is all to repeat what I wrote somewhere else here: buying your next SWG, or similar expendable pool component now, instead of later, will likely end up a good investment. Hmmm, I should order some filter cartridges.

Backwash procedure for pool with 2 filters

This gauge should have decreased in pressure but the filter pressure should increase. If not, the valve may be in the wrong position.

Yes.... it went down about 5 psi when I opened it all the way. I checked the flow meter and there was no change, so I put it back in the original position (where it was reading 30 psi).

Help! New pool and plaster looks TERRIBLE!!

We just had our pool built last fall and the plaster turned out awful. Our pool builder ghosted us and I reallly want to get this plaster looking even, or at least better. We drained it and acid washed but that did not help at all.
Short of a replaster, is there anything I can do? Any info is appreciated.

Iaqualink and Jandy Heater

I think your 4-wire RS485 cable is not working. You could try reseating the plugs (both ends). You might want to switch to the fireman's switch. It is easy to do.

You can use any 4 wire alarm style cable 22 gauge.
