SW,Either way, due to supply issues I may end up with a temporary cartridge filter.)
You are correct. Except. You can't come close to seeing the 25 micron difference between sand (the 'worst') and DE (the best).I’m old school 10 to like DE filters. It is my understanding that DE filter down to a small particle size than a filter can

Well I should listen to the experts! I'm old school on DE but I also understand the issues with them, especially dealing with DE!SW,
I stand by my original statement that if you used a larger cartridge filter you would never go back to DE.
I am a case in point. I have two rent house pools that have DE filters. When I built my pool, I really, really, really wanted another DE filter. My city requires that any DE filters be plumbed into the sewer which was just not possible at my house. I was "forced" to use a large cartridge filter. That was about 8 years ago.
I now would not go back to using a DE filter if it was free.
It would be impossible for you to look at my water and visually tell if I have a DE filter or a cartridge filter.
No DE to mess with, no MVP valve to leak or go bad, dirt simple plumbing, low back pressure, no backwashing and lower pump speeds.
Thanks,
Jim R.
I'd like to see what @SSharp 's Tile estimate was! The tile I'm looking at is not cheap and if that's the whole pool, a la Mexican Resort, it must have cost a small fortune.@SSharp won our June picture contest with a sand filter. The theme was water clarity.

So. Yeah.If you're reading about online horror stories, I fault the user, not the filter.
Heat Pump is out of my mind..I will not help your budget.
I would go with the IntelliCenter bundle for about $500 more then the EasyTouch + ScreenLogic cost.

Heat pump is more expensive to acquire then a gas heater. Do you have a spa? Depends how you are going to use the heater.
Pentair has a Heat Pump Calculator to determine the appropriate size Heat Pump for your location. Pentair seems to do honest calculations based on the physics and efficiencies of each type of pump and energy source.
Raypak also has a Heat Pump Heater Sizing App.
To get the most accurate cost comparison you should change the default electric kwh, natural gas price, and propane price to actual prices in your area.
I would not get GloBrite lights. They have too much early failure. Use Microbrite lights.

For the IntelliCenter, is this the one? Does it come with the actuator valves? Pentair's website doesn't say.
521906 IntelliCenter System (Load Center with i5PS Personality Kit) USA Yes, IC40 Yes Yes
So the 521906 Control Center is the one I should get?

Yup.So the 521906 Control Center is the one I should get?
Under 12,000 gallons, closer to 10,000 gallons. 15 x 30 x 3 is 1350 cf x 7.48 is actually just over 10,000 gallons. This is why I'm wondering why my guy is recommending an 80 sf filter..Yup.
How many gallons will your new pool have?
I assume that is just a two-way gate valve as opposed to a multi port valve? You want a drain to waste valve and line between the pump and filter if going with a cartridge filter.
