Metals in my pool

Like Marty mentioned, the PoolMath app is great. You can use the “effects of adding” feature in it to select any chemical added and what the result will be. Here is a screenshot for adding 1 gallon of 10% bleach to a 17k gallon pool ;

I am new to using the app so I am still trying to figure out how to do this math, did you go to menu and add chemicals then calculate? I think I need to subscribe to get these exact measurements? Also do you know how long I need to wait to add cl since I just used metal out to lower copper in my water? Store said to wait 24hrs other sites say 3days, I do not want to stain my pool or make it turn green.

Was it green or had stains before you used the metal out? If not then 5ppm per day is fine it is certainly not enough to reach shock/slam level- just enough to keep the pool from getting worse & replace what is lost each day until your kit comes.

Btw- The metal out doesn’t remove the copper- it just hides it. The only way to remove it is to replace the copper laden water with fresh water.
They sell 10% strength liquid chlorine at Walmart, lowes, Home Depot, ace hardware, menards etc. in the pool section.
Get several gallons.

Lol thank you! I did figure it out and I’ve been using. I appreciate your help. So since you’ve been on this site you’ve had great experience and results? Less money spent?

It’s all I have ever used since I had a teeny tiny pool many years ago. Thank goodness too because I couldn’t ever really afford to be “pool stored”.
Here’s a great thread for your evening reading, my testimonial is in there.
And a little bit about what, why, & how we do things

Since following the basic TFP approach years ago, I have not been back to the pool store, stopped having algae outbreaks, stopped spending a fortune on useless chemicals, potions, additives, algecides, , clarifiers, filter aids...
I accurately test my own water, and maintain it myself. It’s always crystal clear and sanitized.

Wow! I am amazed by the testimonials, I thought I couldn't do anything without the stores, I have spent $1000 so far in the 3 months I have the pool. So I hope this site will help me and I can keep using it. I don't ever want to set foot in the store again. But I plan to go to walmart tomorrow and get the gallons of liquid cl and SLAM my pool for the first time, please stay around to help me lol.

I definitely will get it tomorrow, so the best time to start doing the SLAM is at night or should I use it as soon as I get it? My store results shows my Alkalinity is 104, store told me to add more alkaline, I am not sure the difference between TA and adjusted alkalinity-91 and just Alkalinity-104, should I add more alkaline?

Until you have a proper test kit, add 5 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine each day. Pump running.

As Marty mentioned- only add the 5ppm (1gal of 10%) of liquid chlorine each day until your kit comes in. Nothing else. No baking soda.
This is not doing the SLAM Process as that requires testing with the kit. This is just to keep things from getting out of hand until then.
When your kit comes do all the tests & post the results here.

Your pool needs chlorine every day.
If you all you have on hand is the cal hypo you can add 5ppm of that now. It just shouldn’t be used in large amounts & you should switch to liquid chlorine tomorrow.
Use
