Metals in my pool

See the screenshot below. Each gallon adds approximately 6 ppm FC. During swim season, most pools use between 2-4 ppm. If your tests are accurate, your FC loss is excessive.
Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

Yes I know. I added fresh water on Saturday too so not sure if that affected it too. What else should I do? Just keep adding cl and test? I will do the overnight cl test tonight again and see

In the beginning of this pool season when I first opened the pool from the winter mess and debris ( I have a mesh safety cover), I would add 3 gallons of 12.5% bleach which is 13 ppm in my pool. It would be down to zero ppm by the next day. Water was slightly cloudy, then clear up, then be cloudy the next day. It needed a big SLAM. Once I did that, it’s been fine ever since.

Did you use the same 12.5% to SLAM? I’ve read the SLAM process, but can you tell me how you did yours?

Yea, I would get my chlorine shock from a store called Ocean State Job Lot. They sell the 12.5% stuff by the case of 4 gallons. Since my CYA at the time was 40, I had to add 4 gallons of the stuff to bring my free chlorine up to SLAM level. Then kept adding throughout the day and subsequent days after that to keep it there. It was rough, took about a week and a lot of chlorine but once it passed the tests, it’s been good ever since with minimal chemicals. I have recently this summer switched over to a SWCG and love it.

That’s amazing to hear. See when I went to the pool store they suggested calcium hypochlorite 73% to shock the pool. I’m afraid to mix liq cl and the shock. And I don’t want to add anymore cal bec my CH was headed up there. 400. Will there be an issue to mix liq cl and cal hypo?

There's no issues with using the two types of chlorine so long as theyre mixed in the pool 15 mins apart, but don't try to use calcium hypochlorite during the SLAM. It takes too long to dissolve and won't give you the quick FC boost that you need during the process.

I guess I’m comparing the 65% cl it has vs 10%. I’m not arguing, I’m trying to understand the rationale please and thank you😀. Tonight I plan to add more liq cl. It seems everything else is fine except the cl. My water is super clear it’s sparkling 😀

It’s not an apples to apples comparison for the %. A one pound bag of the 65% cal hypo stuff will raise the chlorine in your 17k gallons by 4.5 ppm
One gallon of 10% bleach will raise your chlorine by 5.9 ppm.

Oooh I see. That’s why I was alittle confused. Makes sense now. It’s crazy before I joined this site all I used was cal hypo and my cl never went above 2. With liq I have been to 6. Im sure maybe that’s why my pool is doing ok bec it’s getting cl for the first time😀. Thanks for explaining

Cl 0.5
CC 0.5
pH 7.6
Alkaline 110
CH 380
CYA 40
I added 1gal cl Saturday, skipped yesterday but today cl is low. Other than adding more cl, does anyone suggest doing anything else? 17k gal inground pool

Is the water clear? Filter pressure good?
Other that the TA being on the upper end of the range, get that liquid chlorine in there.
You need to keep that in spec so you don’t get algae.

Yes I am doing that. I took my pool water to the store to check for metals, copper was still the same range 0.4, so I wonder if that’s why my pool is still clear. It’s clear and no signs of algae or cloudiness. I used that pool Rx which added copper in my pool . Would that affect cl levels and how much it drops?

Replaced cl and waited 2 hrs to check levels on Monday, levels were at 10, added more last night, today cl is 4, I feel I am using way too much cl, almost everyday or other day. I am not sure why my cl wont stay up.It seems like pH and TA is within ranges.
