    Heat pump efficiency questions

We live in Colorado which generally has very low humidity. I know humidity affects the efficiency of the heat pump but I'm wondering to what extent. Last night was 90% humidity and ranged from 55-49 and it add more degrees overnight than it did during the day and the day was 75 and partly sunny...

    Pin hole leak, post/wall sinking

I think we have a slight leak. The soil is moist around the base of this post and I think its about 1/2" lower (almost a full bubble on a 4' level) than the two and leaning out slightly. What should I do? The two posts on either side haven't moved at all. The leak is so slight it didn't cause...

    Pool deck almost finished!

We built a 21x41 last summer and then spent the summer climbing in and out on a step ladder so we're excited to have a deck for next summer!

    Weather below freezing...what to do.

So in true Colorado fashion, our weather is going to dip down to 28 degrees. The day before it's supposed to be 97 and only be cold for two nights and a day then start warming back up. Definitely don't want close up for the summer as we have two months of decent weather ahead. Will it be fine if...

Raypak 8450 can't access any menus

We just finished hooking up our Raypak 8450 heat pump and can't access any of the installer/service menus or any other menus for that matter. The electrician hit the jumper and it turned on so it has the appropriate power. The menu just displays the 'time' 'water temp' and 'off'. No errors. None...

Can I plumb a heat pump before hooking up electrical?

We have a plumber who can come out Saturday to plumb the heat pump (RayPak 8345ti) but the electrician might not be able to make it in time. Does it matter if it's plumbed before it has power?

Please share your pictures of your solar cover reels on oval pools

We have a 21x41 oval pool. We're going to have a deck on one end but don't want to mount the reel in front of the stairs. Planning on putting in some 4x4s on the deep end and mounting it on those but I'd love to see some more pictures before I do. I've done some searching but haven't turned up...

Build thread: 21x41 with deep end

Posted this in under construction but thought I'd cross post here for those that don't frequent it. Pool prices in our area are unreal (starting at 100k for in ground) so we decided on an above ground. The only above ground installer in our area wanted $28k to install a 21x41 Doughboy, so here...

21x41 above ground with deep end owner build thread

Pool prices in our area are unreal (starting at 100k for in ground) so we decided on an above ground. The only above ground installer in our area wanted $28k to install a 21x41 Doughboy, so here we are, doing it ourselves. Pool kit with expandable liner - $5,428 Pentair Clean & Clear 150SF...

    Overlap liner not big enough?

We installed our 21x41 overlap liner and it's looking like it's not going to be big enough. The water is only about 5" deep now and the liner is not quite touching all the side and there is no slack left. Did they send us the wrong liner? The serial matched what they said they boxed up. What do...

    Above ground pool leveling question

So we had a tractor come in and dig a deep end and roughly level the site. I've started fine tuning the leveling by hand checking with a laser level but there was a spot where the tractor went about 1.5" too deep for about 5' of the perimeter. Do I need to bring the entire rest of the pool down...

Doughboy and SWG (Resin vs steel)

We're considering a doughboy but really want a SWG. Those of you who have had them for several years, how are they holding up? We're looking at a 21x41 Autumn Breeze (with a 7' deep end hopefully.) Does resin vs steel make much of a difference?

Do any pool builders do out of state builds?

I'm seeing a lot of estimates for pools that are less than half what we've been getting. I could pay a builder 20k more than they usually get to cover travel and expenses and I'd still come out far ahead. Is this something that any builders ever consider? Obviously not going to happen w/ the...

Pentair heatpump yearly BTU calculation worksheet

Our county requires us to offset 100% of our BTU usage with either an air source heat pump, solar thermal or solar PV. We're going with a heat pump but they want a "worksheet prepared by the system supplier with system specification necessary to offset the required BTUs per year." We're getting...

    Concrete thickness around fiberglass pool

I thought we finally had a pool builder but he is saying in order to warranty the pool, he wants to put 5' wide 16" thick concrete with rebar around the pool to the tune of $15,000. Is this really necessary? All of his other prices were pretty reasonable (for our area) and I feel like this is...

    Questions on a bid

We received a detailed bid but I'd like some feedback. Based on some of his costs and descriptions I feel like I should probably run but would like a second opinion especially to help me review more bids as they come in. The pool builder refers to us as the GC throughout the document. Is that...

Oasis heat pump efficient to 40*?

The Oasis Platinum heat pump claims to be efficient to 40*. Does anyone have one of these heat pumps? Is this just marketing BS? I've requested more info but would love to hear from an owner.

How much is gunite or fiberglass worth over vinyl?

We're starting to get some quotes coming in and a gunite pool looks like it's going to start at 110k. 3 fiberglass bids so far, 120k, 95k and 78k. One vinyl bid so far 37k. These bids are for a 16x40x8.5 diving pool fairly comparably equipped with no decking or landscaping, just basic pool...

    San Juan Pools of Colorado

Has anyone used San Juan Pools of Colorado? I can't find any reviews for them online but they have an A+ w/ the BBB, were featured in a Colorado magazine a few years ago, and according to buildzoom they do around 17 builds a year. It just feels strange to not have any reviews online. Should I...

Trying to find the right pool

Hoping to build an inground pool within the next year. Leaning toward something like the Taj Mahal Deep. We have 6 year old and entertain a fair amount and since we have plenty of space we would like a larger and divable pool. The forum has been a great resource thus far so I thought I'd sign...
