Is it possible for a new NG heater to be less efficient?

I had a Sta-Rite 400k BTU NG heater. It died and got replaced with a Hayward low nox NG heater - same BTU. I could be wrong but it seems like the new one is more expensive to operate than the old one. Is that possible? I live in Texas where it’s hot right now, and it’s easy to see in NG gas...

Replaced old spa air blower and still not working right

Update for anyone that searches for this — fixed! Turns out, when I put the top of the blower on, the foam was not setting correctly and covered the hole that sucks in air to the motor. It’s been fixed for two months now running strong and regularly! Check your foam if you have this issue!

Help needed on ways to repair and color match flagstone joints/mortar

I have several areas around the pool where I need to fix the cracked joints between the flagstone. After some research, I tested a spot (the long brighter center line in the first photo) with veneer stone mortar, given it’s Type S properties. Turns out, it’s much lighter than the existing...

Need repair advice on spa waterfall

I'm DIY capable but only have owned a pool for 3 years. I've noticed the stones on the spa are getting loose and one can be completely removed (shown in pic). What do I need to buy to fix this? I have no issue with removing the stones and redoing stuff as needed. Is it mortar? Any sites or...

Older Sta Lite Pool Heater LCD

Thanks. I do not know how old. Likely original to house - late 1990s - unless otherwise replaced before then. I can't even find the model number on the outside of the heater. I am resourceful enough to remove and fix as necessary and could certainly soldier in another LCD screen if needed. Do I...

Older Sta Lite Pool Heater LCD

LCD has sections that work and some that don’t, so it’s hard to make out the current or set temp. It can be done simply by going +-10 degrees or to max and counting down. Anyway, how do I fix this? Does a membrane replacement fix this or do I have to replace something else? Everything works...

    Returned from vacation to this...

Thanks all. Chlorine puck looks like it did the trick. We'll monitor. Had a few storms roll in while gone, so either sap or definitely could have been ducks. We've got them around here. Usually I'm on top of it when I see it in the pool but given we we're out, that could have been it.

    Returned from vacation to this...

Been maintaining pool for 3 years with chlorine and TFP methods. Came back from vacation to this. What in the world is it? I can't remove with a pool scrubber. Pool had chlorine added in liquid and tablet form while gone. Pool is clear with exception to this. I've not ever used any ironizer...

Pentair VS pump ran dry; lower flow suspected

ugh.. my username is living up to it's name. Pentair VS speed pump ran dry for about an hour. Won't worry the group with the detail. I've reviewed other threads TFP about the event and others freaking out. I understand. However, in my situation, it seems like the pump is not as aggressive...

Installing new Pentair Multiport valve 261142 - How To Install Sight Glass??

I don't have any plastic seal with it or anything. Do I just use standard PVC glue to seal it to the waste outflow slip?

Installing new Pentair Multiport valve 261142 - How To Install Sight Glass??

I'm about to DIY replace my existing cheap backwash filter with a Multiport valve. Model 261142. High flow valve. Got a sight glass in the package but it's a huge 2 inch piece just like a small pvc pipe. One end threaded, one end not. How do I attach it to the Multiport? All the multiport...

Considering SWG but cautious about salt PPM

Manual dosing right now with TFP methods but considering a switch to a SWG. Should I be concerned about any long term effects of using standard salt PPM requirements for the SWG? Plaster issues, discoloring, etc? do you use sacrificial anodes in your pools? I don't have a diving board or any...

CYA and Chlorine - Cost efficiency

If I use/aim/have a lower CYA level (as suggested at 30-50), I've understood that means I technically need less to chlorinate the pool. But, that does not necessarily speak to the loss per day. Would lower CYA levels result in more frequent additions of liquid chlorine? Is there any...

Liquid Chlorine vs Cal Hypo - cost and effort comparison question

Dealing with CYA 70 even after 1/2 drain. Using liquid chlorine for about a week. 20,000 gallon pool. Using about 1/2 a gallon of 10% a day ($1.80 per day) to stay at chlorine 5-7ppm. Pool looks great. Active sun and TX heat. I wonder if calcium hypochlorite is a better and cheaper long...

    DIY Reverse Osmosis?

Seems like this topic has been covered here a little bit over the years... but, I'm interested in whether it's possible to DIY a reverse osmosis setup for occasionally dropping CYA and other levels to acceptable levels over time rather than paying $500+ for a truck to do it in 8 hours. Thoughts?

    Neep help!!

Welcome to TFP! I am also new and can attest to these links and knowledge. My CYA was 125 and I was chlorine locked with algae. Drained half the pool and refilled, down to 70. Still not ideal, but I'm working with it. I was using Trichor tabs but as of yesterday, I've moved to liquid...

    FC as 7.5% of CYA

This article seems to re-emphasize many points made here in the forum about chemical relationships. Thoughts on the recommended formula of free chlorine should be 7.5% of the pool's CYA level? And, BTW, The Pool Calculator is great. New Thinking: Chlorine/Cyanuric Acid in Balance
