What causes this?

I went out and checked the pump. The light was on the “1” and I think the rpm is 3450? I tried to push 2 and 3 to check those but it would not allow me to push them.

I took a picture of the pump basket. It does not have any water and has never had any in it since we opened it a few weeks ago, other than this evening when water was swishing around when the toy was stuck. So you are saying this should have water in it?

Pool cleaner recommendation for stubborn debris?

Loki,

I had the Dolphin Premier and I doubt it will do what you want..

Does it look like this...?

1747536813479.png

If so, it has two small suction slots and very small filters... It is a 10 or 15 year old design...

I've moved on to the EVO, but I am not sure it would work for what you have.. Seems like the cones would just get jammed up in the suction ports...

Not sure it is even possible, but I would try to find someone local that will let you try out their robot for a couple of days.. Some Pool Stores have loaners.. Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure if a robot will work, or not, is to actually try it...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Replacing pool pump - where do I cut old plumbing?

So it turns out it's impossible to find 2-1/2 Schedule 40 PVC pipe anywhere near me, they have every other size except for this one (Home Depot doesn't carry it, neither does Lowes). I found one seller on Amazon offering it for $45, but the shipping is like 2 weeks:

I also found one on plumberstock.com, for only $10, but am not sure if it's rated for pool pressure:

Any tips?

is my liner fading normal?

I have some fairly significant fading - the pool is in direct sun pretty much all day - although we do use a solar cover. I find the worst fading tends to be in the high-traffic areas, the deep end is less affected (you can see in the bottom of the picture the color difference) and I can see where the previous owners used to 'hang' on the side of the pool at the deep end near the tiki bar, probably chatting with guests etc - there is a patch right there that is more faded than anywhere else, and I originally thought it was a chemical spill...but now the traffic theory seems to fit better. I too did the step-move-color shuffle - so hard to believe its the water itself.

I have no idea how old the liner in the pool is - we're guessing somewhere around 6-8 years, no idea on make or quality, but based on other 'fixes' the previous owner did, it's probably the cheapest one they could find at the time. At some point, we're just happy it holds water, and I kinda figure there isn't much I can do about it. It doesn't really affect us using the pool, so I try not to obsess about it ;)

p.s. I secretly obsess about it ;)
I like the ladder handle covers, where did you get them?

What causes this?

I’m sorry for being so confused. The pump basket is the first pic I sent, right?
This is your pump basket.

I’ve never seen water in there before tonight which I thought was an issue from a toy being pulled into the skimmer. So there is supposed to be water in there from the pool?
Yes, that is what a pump does...it pump water from skimmer or main drain through filter and other equipment back to the returns in the pool.

Here is a short of pump priming...you can see water starting to come into the pump and the air being expelled through the system.

What causes this?

Priming a pump is the process of pulling water up from the pool to the pump. Once it is primed, it is moving mostly water.

Losing prime means the pump is no longer pumping water and the pump basket has essentially no water. If it continues to move water, even with some air in the pump basket, over a long interval (like 24 hours), you have not lost prime.

Since it’s only happening on and off, might it be “normal” as the link suggests for a variable pump?
Yes, but it depends on the RPMs the pump is running. Getting the speeds will help diagnosis.

If not, can it be an indication of a huge problem or more just something that needs explored when able? I’ll call a pool tech on Monday but just making sure it’s not urgent.
Does the pump lose prime? If pump does not lose prime, then it is not urgent.

Wiring help for a CircuPool RJ60+

It's a Jandy Pro series variable speed ePump. 2.7hp, I believe? We do have a gas heater.

So there would be no power to the unit with three wires fully secured and compressed inside the load screws, as is? Aren't pigtails and WAGO connectors just easier and more efficient ways to connect the wires, but essentially to the same thing(s), in this case? I'm happy to use those, but do you think the lack of them is causing the unit to not power on?

I did wonder why they decided to not use the standard relay for the filter pump, as it appeared in the diagram I saw.

Edit: I see now that it's unsafe if the relay isn't specifically rated. I will be sure to use a different, approved method of attaching the wires. But I still wonder if I should at least have power to the unit if that's where it's supposed to be hooked up, despite the poor method.

What causes this?

It means that you can vary the RPMs of the pump and is programmable to run different speeds during the day.

Go to the pump, while it is running. You will see one light above 1, 2 or 3. It means it is currently running that program. Remember that number (1,2, or 3) (I'll call it CURRENT).
Press "Stop" wait 5 seconds, then press "start" press the display button until it shows you the RPM. Write that number down.
Press 1, press display until it shows RPMs, write that number down.
Press 2 and 3 and write RPMs down for those programs.
Press the button next to CURRENT, and pump will return to its programming.

Post RPMS for Prime ("start"), 1, 2 and 3.

Okay, I will try those things tomorrow.

Pool Build Underway

Put a pool light junction box on the light conduit as is. Do not cut it down as you want it to be above any possible pool water level.

Then run conduit from the junction box to light switch and power.

Code allows only four 90's in conduit to pool light, and you don't know how many are there.

Are lights low voltage or 120V?

Are exactly are those lights controlled? From that box? How?
