Thoughts Granite coping stone cracked over skimmer first month

Still in progress of renovation remediation and pool water will have to come out for next phase. Yesterday we noticed that the NEW granite coping stone over the deep end skimmer has a crack in it. We will have a new stone cut and would like thoughts on how to reinstall the 12 x 24 x 1.5" granite stone. Any ideas on why this may have happened and how to prevent it from happening again? The stone was set in Platinum 254 and Permacolor Grout between stones. You can see the grout has hairline crack which may speak to movement and / or expansion - contraction. Should we use a soft joint material like Latasil instead of the grout next time to allow for movement? What are your thoughts on having a bridge across the skimmer opening when the stone is removed to replace it? Thank you for your thoughts Pictures below.skimmer view of cracked granite stone 5.15.25.jpg

Should i put in a sump pump under my inground vinyl pool?

I don’t think putting pipe under the hopper buys you anything.

General concept is to drain water away from the sides of the liner to lower ground water level around the pool.
if there's no water in my pool right now, a few weeks after our last rain, chances are my ground water table isn't high enough to worry about right? we had a very wet winter so if the ground water table is 8' or higher, it should be showing.

Strange substance in vacuum basket

Hello all. I have an electric pool vacuum for my inground pool and for the last couple of weeks it has been picking the fine white silt shown in the photo. According to my test kit and the more elaborate test at Leslie’s, the pool water is optimal on all counts. It’s also clear to the eye. The silt is extremely fine and breaks up like flower or baking soda between my fingers.

The pool is 5 years old as is the equipment. The Hayward Chlorinator is 3 years olds and is clean and working perfectly.

Does anyone have any idea what this substance could be? Oh and I also found this slithering guy in my pool yesterday. He escaped into the skimmer basket and into the high water drain hole.

New pool finished, but having issues with spa spillover.

Equipment and pad photos attached. The model# on the pump(s) is: VSSHP270DV2A
The automation is: Jandy RS-PS6 automation system with iAqualink antenna

The builder’s solution to stop the water from running out by the steps is to cut some slits/grooves into the ledge alongside the step so water can fall through. He has already cut 2, but the water is still running out due to it is running up against the grout line along the rock and out of the pool.

My main issue is I don’t want to have to run the booster pump continuously and I am worried that the water running along the ledge below is accelerating grout removal.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

Constant spillway automation needed

John,

You could kluge something together to turn just your Return valve.. This assumes that you have Jandy style valves and not ball valves..

You'd need a valve actuator, a 24 VAC source (wall wart), and timer of some type that could turn on a relay.. You could set the timer to turn the valve so that the spillover would only run for a short time once or twice a day..

Show us several pics of your equipment pad, so we can see if this makes sense..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Pool Build Underway

So I'm going to sink a couple pressure treated 4x4's with some cross member for mounting my GFI, manual toggle disconnects and any other future equipment. Any opinions on good place for this around pad? As you can see( partially my set up is pump is closet to trench, them filter then gas heater closest to fence.

Also not sure why the pool guys stubbed up the pool light conduits at that location. I guess I"ll also need to extend(I will cut them down) them to the frame I'm building. Do they get wired to a switch?

BTW I work for an electrical contractor( not as an electrician..lol) and my bro in law is a commercial electrician.
