This one is for me....

And this why Californians can’t have nice things built.....waaaaaaaaaay too much over-regulation of projects for the “little guy”. They have no problem letting some bozo (or is that Bezos??) build a giant office tower somewhere that no one will use but if a residential homeowner wants to put an extension on their deck, na-ah, not gonna happen....unless you perform a $20M environmental impact review to prove you’re not harming the yellow striped earthworms habitat.

I hope your project get approved Brian but I will NOT be shocked if you come back with yet another tale of building dept woe!

Yes you are correct about that and I'm not hopeful either.

I'm pretty sure this city outsources their structural reviews to a private firm. If you're that firm guess how you keep the city's business??? By showing you're doing a thorough job and that equals corrections:roll:

Yeah ya did!!

2020 is being hopeful, more like 2030!

I didn't update because there was nothing to update... I'm either going to call it quits on drafting or go through the hassle of finding another engineer?

Brian glad u r moving somewhat forward.

Just do like I do. Do what u want and deal with it when u get caught. :)

Makes it more stressful when u get caught but when it’s all over u can then laugh about it. :)

Prob not the best advice but hey it will get u what u want.

It’s always a “hurry up, PAY US NOW!! and wait” situation when dealing with any government municipality. ?

I fixed that for ya! ;)

Sadly, in California, that’ll get you a 20 year stretch at San Quentin prison...

Yeah, that falls under the.... “Better to ask for forgiveness then permission” statement. ;)

The crazy thing is when I first doing my own plans (I had no clue what I was doing), I never had an issue getting them to pass plan check. The more detailed and better my plans got the more issues I ended up having with the plan check engineers??? The codes and standards have changed slightly but looking back at some of the stuff I submitted to the city , they looked only slightly better than what a kindergartener could produce with a crayon.

I remember one project that I submitted had no issues with the design or Structural Engineering but I got a list of Corrections that were all related to spelling and grammar errors on the notes pages. I went cheap on my first CAD program and it didn't have a spell check feature. When I was first designing my title block I spent the better part of two weeks typing up these pages of generic notes that I never anticipated anyone would read... well somebody took the time to read them and was nice enough to point out my spelling errors.

That was a fun conversation with the client... your project is delayed because I...errr....well....I spelled some words wrong???

I’ll dig those footings if you get approved without correction....of course it will take me many days longer and you’ll have to put up with me whining and cursing the entire time and let me sleep on your couch....you might want to check with the family before you accept the wager

Deal... I'll record the whole thing and throw it on YouTube. Once it goes viral I'll be able buy my own island where I can do whatever I want!

It might get annoying having to see all the teenage kids imitating you though?

Sorry to burst your bubble Brian, but no one will be watching “70’s show Bob” enough for it to go viral. There may be like 6 or 7 of us that will view it strictly for comedic value to poke fun of here on the forum, but that’s about it. :epds:
