Plumbing Question

I know almost nothing about plumbing, let alone pool plumbing, but does anyone know what this valve is supposed to connect to? Right now it’s connected to nothing...

Probably just a waste line so that you can vacuum to waste or drain some water.

It would have been better to use a 3 way valve that would allow you to close the line going to the filter.

They’re having to redo some plumbing because they forgot to run a line for our water fall...would it be worth it to bring this up to my builder?

That valve is connected between the pump (pressure side) and your filter. If you attach a discharge pipe to this valve you can direct (some) water out of your system before it is pushed into your filter.

I would. It’s facing the wall which will make it hard to attach an adapter and hose. As said should have been a 3 way valve too.

The line coming up from the pump should go into the center port of a 3 way valve and the valve can go left to the filter or right to waste. That's what I recommend.

I sent a text to my builder about why they chose to go with a 2 way instead of a 3 way there. It does look odd, glad I asked! Thanks for all the responses!

The reason you want a 3-way valve is so that you can shut the filter off. It makes little sense the way it is now.

Having a 3-way would also allow you to isolate the filter when you remove the pump lid, so that water could not drain back into the pump from the filter.

Yeah, that makes complete sense. I’ll have them fix this for sure. I don’t know why they would set it up like this, seems like a simple thing to just do right...

I got this response when I asked why the plumber used a 2 way instead of a 3 way valve here...
”Our plumber has been plumbing pools for 20 years. He has a reason for everything he does! I'll ask him and find out.”

Instead of asking a question, you should just tell the pool builder what you want and why..

Being a plumber for 20 years does not necessarily make you a good plumber, it just makes you an old plumber..

Just a quick updated, plumber came back out and installed a 3 way valve there so all is good. Said he had put the 2 way there as a place holder until he could get a three way installed...not sure if that’s true or not, but oh well, it’s correct now!

I'm not sure how it was a placeholder, but ok.

Haha. My plumber has been plumbing for 15yrs and I wont let him touch much, he stamps the permits and does what I draw his input is irrelevant unless were talking gas lines

It's tied into the main sewer line via my clean out drain to drain to the street.

It is, the waste line is the line facing the camera from the 3 way valve. It's tied into the main sewer line via my clean out drain to drain to the street.

I see it now, at first glance, I thought that line was tied into the top of the return, but it's just directly behind it!
