Being a plumber for 20 years does not necessarily make you a good plumber, it just makes you an old plumber..

I am going with the latter...
You could ask your PB why his well seasoned plumber put a pipe exactly where you want to stand to remove filters and clean the filter housing. Looks like there was room too run it behind. Priming the entire pipe must be some type of ancient plumbers secret that only seasoned professionals know about.....

I was gonna say that I dont allow blue glue near the pad. He did use clear on all that can be seen to his credit. The line should have went down and back it's common sense

I would have included a union and a vacuum breaker on the line.

The union so that you can periodically check to see if the valve is leaking and the vacuum breaker to allow the line to drain and to avoid water hammer.
