So this happened

Got some sidewalk and stairs today. The cement guy said they'd be back Monday.

To finish the chapter with the PB, I got the right bolts for the diving board stands. I had a week to play with and was going to be petty and make the electricians come back. But after I slept on it, I really didn't want them back. Last time they fixed 4 things and broke 4 things, why give them the chance ?

So. That's the end of dealing with the PB.

Why did they not do it all today??? sigh....
They worked 8-4 with a full crew, so no complaints.
Guessing PB will NOT be getting any good or even okay reviews from you
Yeah. I have lots of crooked things like the skimmer that will never go away and I can show anyone who cares.

I will give PB this, he got right on anything I asked him to. He sent the same dolts back to screw it up again, or a different way, but he got on it.

fewooo......long read.
Some cracking laughs but some moments that almost make you cry in this thread. I hope you have been for swim Newdude! Its certainly looking inviting.

Shame the customer has to check, re-check, monitor, then bring to attention how lousy the workmanship and lack of care is on offer for the money they are spending. Its a fine line between being dropped off because you are the squeaky wheel, and getting a good job, or the job you are entitled too I feel.

I can tell you PBs are just as incompetent, price gouging, don't listen, and over booked down here in Australia also. Supply of materials is difficult, and I am grateful though my PB is a goose, he seems to have sent his A team of contractors for my build.

I've been punching on since April 21, when the light bulb moment of talking to the bank for finance for a pool began. Been a long road and still only half way. Certainly has changed my view of houses with existing pools in good shape. I'd easily pay more for a house with a pool rather than think we will just build one.

Looking for to the day I can swim with the kids and my little mate again.IMG_3289.jpeg

Oh yeah. Most days I come from work and jump in fully clothed. I work outside so I'm already soaked anyway.

It's been a roller coaster for sure. It's not just pools either. We have had a miserable time getting anything done struggling with both the availability of items and workers who don't deserve to be employed.

Soon. Get a build thread going so we can all cheer you on. The more eyes on the project the better.

nah I haven't taken enough pics. As mentioned the PB' contractors have been great and very happy with what's been created. Just annoyed with myself for falling into the builders trap of quoting branded products that were not overly specific. When I asked for clarification after it was to late, of course it was not what I wanted so the gouging on variations began. Perhaps I should have pushed back and said not my fault the model isn't detailed, that's what I want.

The other thing is I wish I found this site before getting quotes. One thinks they know what they like-want before you see what's possible, or what you learn througfh the passing of time . Down under I think we build a pretty "beige" type of pool, and PBs don't offer anything but beige as it potentially makes them uncompetitive against all the other possible hacks.

I have 6 different pours for the deck around my pool. Can't get supply from the cement companies which is compounded by where I live and the type of product chosen. Funny though how they make it and market it but because its not plain grey you go way down the list.

So it will start with a quick fast forward of hole / pool walls / now. Then you can go buck wild going forward.

I can lose my phone and come back here to find plumbing pics (etc, etc, etc) one day when the pics get lost in the cloud somehow or I forget my login to it. I didn't lose my phone but the pics already came in handy when the the electricians rebonded the pool but left 4 spots disconnected. 2 of the connections were buried and CRITICAL. The pool light and the bonding grid itself (professionals, amirite???) I knew right where to dig and how many wires I was looking for.

Take 1000 pics for free and post them for safe keeping. None of us will recognize your yard and if your neighbor sees them, well, he already knows where you live. I hate to break it to ya. :ROFLMAO:

The paver base / slab was finished today.

The stones are scheduled to be delivered on Wed and the patio starts on Thursday. Regular weather, plagues and shortages rules still apply.

Are crack control joints going to be cut in the concrete slab?

In hot weather, concrete might crack if joints are not cut within 6-12 hours after finishing concrete.

Are crack control joints going to be cut in the concrete slab?
Nope. The theory goes they are expecting it to crack because they didn't spend a bunch of man hours compacting the base. But when it cracks they are still large sections which continue to bridge any voids and nobody is the wiser under the pavers.

It's how the paver company (and me...lol) affords to do two patios for the price of one.

Ah, I forgot the concrete base is not the final finish and pavers go on top.

Never mind.

Did they use a metal bonding grid in the concrete?
Yes both the thick rectangular chicken wire-y one and rebar. Tied into the grid at my request. The patio guy said that he found it odd that it wasn't a requirement here but he also thought it was a good idea.
