new pool - pool bug already - amphipod

Looks like what those of us around here call "pill bugs". Actually more closely related to lobster than beetles. Generally harmless although they burrow behind my tile, which I assume contributes to why I replace so many each spring.

    Fine Dirt in Pool

The locals around here aren't such a fan of the word "shock". But if the algae is already dead (and I agree with that assessment), "shocking" is redundant. The purpose of shocking is to kill what is living, not get rid of what is already dead. Vacuum and backwash.

    Staining/Dying Concrete Pool Deck

Hello all, I've got a ~40 year old IG pool with a sidewalk-style concrete deck and coping. I'd like to stain the coping to a dark blue to match my pool tile and offer a bit more color outside. However, the reviews for the Behr or Valspar concrete "stain" or "dye" seem to imply they behave more...

    Pool Lighting ?

I have a 20'x40', and only one light. Pool lights up like a jewel with it on. I could see one in the deep end, one in the spa, and one on the steps.

    Pool Covers

Michigan pool owner here. I have a summer cover that I use during cooler stretches, or when I know I won't be in the pool for at least a couple days at a time. Helps cut down on heat and water loss, and has the added benefit of keeping junk out of the pool.

    Tiki Torches

Have them. Use them either standing in holders inside large flowerpots, or with the canisters set directly next to the pool as mosquito preventers.

New build in DFW. Tall deck, need help

Re: Not Happy with our REALLY tall concrete deck. Thoughts? My main concern would be children/distracted/drunk people walking off the edge and injuring themselves. I agree: a fence along the edge, with some flowers or shrubs along the newly-installed fence.

    Welcome to the Party Deck

Finally got (most) of my poolside construction complete. Thought I would share. Pool details are in the signature. The privacy barrier alongside it consists of fabric panels on clips that can be rolled up for weather or better airflow (although most of the wind in my yard blows long-ways).

    Suggestions on possible culprit

Do you normally run your pump continuously? Was it on for the entire duration of getting the pool clear? I don't know much about AG pools, but I know there's a plumbing phenomenon where material that otherwise stays attached to pipes during a steady flow can suddenly get washed out when pressure...

Moving house... pool included. Expected costs? Updated with (green) results

Re: Moving house... pool included. Expected costs? I bought a house last year that came with a pool about twice the size of yours, and have found the costs entirely acceptable. Chemicals are pretty cheap - particularly if you just run with bleach and muriatic acid. Water and electricity are...

I am crying. Pool leaks and Filtration problems.

"Try filling the pool to just above the returns and then plug the returns and let it sit overnight. If it does not lose water then you can unplug the return and use food coloring or leak detector dye to see if you can identify the leak" If you plug the returns and the leak stops, the problem is...

I am crying. Pool leaks and Filtration problems.

“ So there must be a rip in the liner I'm guessing as it is stabilizing over the return jet” Try plugging the return jets back up and refill. If water continues to drop, your leak is in the liner, possibly where the jets come into the pool? If water doesn’t drop with the returns plugged, it...
