Ohh.. DUH! It was a tiny bit cloudy (attached pic below). If you don't think the 25oz is going to do much, then do you think it would hurt to add another 30oz instead of another 60oz (split the difference)?

Here's the latest update...
Tues, 1am, FC: 15. It actually went up from the 12ppm that I got at 10:15pm. Not sure why?
Tues, 6:30am, FC:14. 25oz of Stabilizer completely dissolved. Heater kicked on for the first time. Pool water temp, 70. Heater set to 90. 60 degrees outside. Expecting a lot of sunny days the rest of the week, but cooler temps - day temps in the 70s, night temps 60ish.

It will take up to a week to show up in that test after dissolving. Just assume it's there. I personally would wait a week and retest before adding more. I over-shot last year, and it's just now, a year later, back down to where I want. That stuff just doesn't go away.

I get it now......the pic helps. I would call that perhaps 10 ppm approx.

So, using PoolMath and starting @ 10 ppm, I would set a target of 40 ppm as your final. Be sure to subtract the 25 oz you have already put in the pool.

Ok, cool. Calling current CYA at 10... Pool math calls for 88oz to get to 40. I already added 25oz. So 88 - 25 = 63. I just added 50 (a little less just to be safe). Makes a total of 75oz of Stabilizer added.

Tues, 12:30pm FC: 13. Pool water temp pushing 80. Turned the heater off. Going to be full sun all afternoon. Thanks!
 
Today is Tuesday so you still have the rest of the week to get to the goal of having a clear pool!

This is one of the check offs for being done with the SLAM.

Now saying that------------IF you can see the bottom AND your FC is a tiny bit under your SLAM level you can get in the water! BUT do not wear a good suit it might fade.

Ok - thanks! I figured that was the next step. I'll review the link for the overnight test. Supposed to be full sun again all day tomorrow. I'll see how my FC levels do. If they stay fairly steady, then plan is to do the "official" overnight loss check Weds into Thurs.

If you need to crash the FC at the last minute you can use common hydrogen peroxide , cost about $1 per quart at most dollar stores. In your pool you can expect it to lower your FC by about 1 - 2 ppm per QT (this is going from memory), so may be 3 ppm...
 
It seems to me that since you added just shy of what you needed to target a CYA of 40 that you should bump your new SLAM target to 16.

If it's dissolved (earlier you said most of it is) then you should raise your SLAM level to correspond to the CYA that you are aiming for. It won't show up on the test for a week but it is in there and doing it's job.

Anyone see an error in this? (I think I'm reading your numbers right.) Someone correct me if I'm off please! ;-)

Ahh - yes, that makes sense. I was targeting 40. I did however, add 10oz less of Stabilizer than what was called for. I wanted to play it safe since we were kind of guessing that my CYA reading was 10 originally. That way if we were off on guessing (to low), I didn't overdue it on the Stabilizer.

It's 7:30am Weds, FC: 12 (has remained there since 8:30pm Tues).

Can anyone chime in? Do you agree with Beens that I should bump my FC target to 16?

I could bump my levels to 16 now and then try the official overnight test tonight.
 
I agree with her. I wouldn't hesitate to bump the FC up to 16ppm. You can go ahead and run the OCLT, but be sure the samples are after dark and before dawn in order to get an accurate result. Don't be discouraged if you lose more than 1 ppm the first time you run it.
