**I HAVE 7 DAYS to get water in good shape. Looking for advice!

On May 13 in your other thread, I told you to add one bottle of bleach per day ... so you were warned. ;)

That was before the pump and filter were working. Once I got it running I followed the directions in the 'SLAM link' which say that "Chlorine additions should be frequent". I'll admit, I got in a hurry and did my own version of SLAMing and considering I didn't have the appropriate test - that was dumb. No worries, I'll get back on track.

Please take a picture and post it up if you don't mind. Run another FC and see how far you go this time.

Will do. We were gone for the night. I'm getting back at it. Will post pics and FC results shortly. Thanks!

Generally you can spot a vinyl lined pool by the fake tiling or decoration around the walls and surface of the pool. But...that said, I've seen pics on here that are very confusing becuase the pool was altered in some way to mix together different pool elements...so it could be cement with fiberglass or vinyl or whoknowswhat? Does your pool have an obviously fake printed tile work on the edge by the coping?

Thanks - I appreciate the explanation. I'll take a closer and post a few pics to make sure we're on the same page.

Ok, first off, it's Sunday, 9am. Before I DO ANYTHING, I'd like some input.

We were gone for the night and just got home. I bumped the filter at 4:30pm Sat and all seemed to be good. Currently, the pump is running, but there's not a good prime - so jets are running. Pressure is a little "bouncy" at 25ish. Why is that? Is it bc the filter is dirty? Should I bump - or backwash? Again - not doing anything until I hear back. ;)

I'll post pics and test results in a few. Thanks!

When was the last time you backwashed the filter and added new DE?
How long before the pressure rises after a bump?
You need to keep the pump running as long as you're SLAMing.

Filter was cleaned out by the pool company Friday. He took the lid off and washed it all out. Since then, I've been bumping once the pressure is up. That normally takes a few hours. After bumping it goes right back to 20 or so right away.

Should I go ahead and backwash? Or just bump to get it going? Thanks!

Test results (Sun, 9am):

FC is 40
(took 80 drops to get back to clear).

Oh - and the pool is concrete with a vinyl liner (obvious fake printed tile).

Ok, with a liner pool, you don't want to overload the FC again as you risk fading the liner. Let is fall to SLAM value for your Cya level. Without looking back I don't remember what your Cya is, but dose and maintain FC according to that chart. Do this until you can pass all criteria for completing the SLAM procedure.

You need to set up a free account at a Photo hosting site such as Photo bucket. Post the pictures there, and post the IMG links here.

Here are some tips on that: http://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/72545-Posting-Photo-s-Tutorial

A good rule of thumb is to add about 80% of a new fill after a backwash.

Some filters that use DE have a mechanism that 'bump' the element header to try and knock debris off the fingers when they get dirty. this allows you to go a bit longer between backwashing or complete cleaning.

Got it - thanks!!

9pm Sun: 28 drops to clear = 14 FC! On track! With original CYA of 30, I need to be at 12 FC for slamming. I printed out the link for SLAM. Going to review and follow steps. If anyone has any tips or advice feel free to share.

Thanks again TFP!!

Sun 9:45pm test: FC: 12!!!(24 drops to clear - right where I need to be!)

Water is clear and looks great! Test taken after brushing sides really well again. Dolphin going to work - nothing on the floor.

It's going to keep going down as it works on the organics in the water so make sure you dose it again before bed. Maybe up to 14 to give some leeway depending on how early you will test in the morning. You don't want it under 12 for too long.
If you are really wanting to hit it hard (best course of action if you want it cleared asap) test and dose overnight too. Get your midnight SLAM on!

Well - fell asleep before seeing this, so didn't get my midnight SLAM on  Luckily, it only dropped to 11 over night (22 drops to clear at 6:30am). I went to pool math to figure dosage. Set a goal of 13. Pool math called for 55 oz of 10% - so I added about half of a 128% jug. Retested a few minutes later, FC is 14. Will let it ride for now. The Mrs gets to join in on the fun today. She's going to test around noon. We'll go from there. THANKS again all!
