**I HAVE 7 DAYS to get water in good shape. Looking for advice!

With the rise in pressure and the fact that you KNOW your filter and chlorine had to work overtime with that many kids in the pool..............I see a backwash and a mini SLAM.

Kim

I turned the filter off to give it a rest for a few hours this evening. I just bumped it and turned it back on. Startup pressure is holding steady at 21. I checked FC. It was about a 2, so I added a little to bump up to 3.

Just FYI - I actually backwashed it after all of the kids already. I'll go ahead and let it ride for the night and check everything again tomorrow (supposed to be full sun). I'm going to check all levels and will post an update then. Thank you!!

Got a little busy, so just getting back on here.

Today is Sat. I've had to add a little Chlorine hear and there, but have been keeping FC at around 3.

Now here's my problem...

Pressure is not going down - even after last evenings backwash. I don't seem to be getting a good enough prime either. 1 jet is flowing ok, the other two barely. The pool guy said when that happens it probably means the filter is dirty. He actually took the lid off and sprayed it all out. Should I do this? If so, can someone walk me through it by chance?? Thanks!!

When bumping a DE filter is no longer effective then yes, open it up and clean it out. Use a spray nozzle on your water hose to get all the old DE off the fingers or grids, and hose out the tank.

none is the filter is above water level. Just turn off the pump, open the air release valve at the top to let the filter drain, and take off the lid.

Ok - only thing is our air release valve is broken :/ Guessing I can just remove lid anyway - pool guy did.

CYA is 50.
FC is 2.5

Going to go ahead and bump the FC to 6.

I took the lid off and cleaned the filter. Pressure is sitting steady at 24 - which still seems high to me. I added 4lbs of DE. Guess I'll just see how it goes. Let me know if you have any advice. Thanks!!

So, filter lid started leaking more and more. Remembered that I forgot lube. So took lid off, sprayed again - starting to wonder if there's too much DE in filter?? Anyway - put the lid back on after lubing. Started spinning the "plastic connector ring" that goes from the filter PVC to the feeder. The ring snapped! Going to need a new connector ring, but I'll need to cut the elbow I guess?

Now I'm stuck with no running filter - and no way to fix it tonight. I'm not even sure what the easiest way of fixing is? UGH!

Hmm ... that is tricky. For one you really do not need to keep that chlorinator. Although I am not sure removing it makes the fix easier.

you might just want to see if you can order on the of unions for the chlorinator and replumb between it and the filter.

At this point thinking I'll head to Hope Depot in am and see if I can figure something out for Plan A.

Plan B: call pool company, hook up new filter and fix all at the same time. I'll letcha' know.

If you look where I circled in red on your photo you can see that union is already missing and it appears they used a short length of pipe glued into the chlorinator to make the connection. You options to repair the filter are to cut between the chlorinator and the connector on the left and cut on the yellow line on the right, remove the chlorinator and replace it with a piece of straight pipe. You will need a 90 degree elbow, a section of pipe, and some pvc glue. You can also cut off the broken connector and get a new slip union to replace the black connector that broke.

Thanks - that definitely helps.
I don't mind getting rid of the chlorinator, my only hesitation there, is that there's not really any pipe to the left of the chlorinator currently. So I'm not sure how I would join a new straight pipe there? Your second suggestion actually sounds pretty easy. With cutting off the connector - would I only need to cut the connector itself and not the threaded pipe? The connector itself will come off easily. If so, can you possibly show a pic of the type of slip union you mentioned? The threaded piece that the connector ring is on has a lip, which prevents it from sliding (or spinning off). I'm not sure how'd I'd get a new connector ring over that lip though?

I don't know if you have 1.5" or 2" pipe, looks like 1.5", but you could cut it off on the left side right at the 3 way valve and use one of these.

The left side glues inside the pipe, and the right side is the same size as the regular pipe so you can put a coupling on it then go with regular pipe to tie back into the line that comes down to the 90 before the chlorinator.
