Pentair pump - error 21

Loved the website and forums. Great advice. Recently ran into err 21 code on pump. Looked it up and found multiple directions. Latest one was that the fan may be blocked/ clogged. Sure nuff. Great minds installed my pump next to dryer vent so it was blowing lint. Took cover off pump fan and cleared out, but still randomly get code. Then I found something that stated something about it "surging". It would always come back on after short period, but it is not. Help....

New home owner with pool

Hey All,

I wanted to introduce myself and ask a question about pool equipment. My wife and I just purchased a house in the Phoenix area and I am in the process of learning how to take care of the pool. Please forgive me if some of my terminology or knowledge is wrong, I'm still learning.

The pool was re-done by the previous home owner and has one suction side fitting in the skimmer basket area. There is no longer a flapper going into the skimmer area to prevent surface debris from re-exiting. There also isn't a vacuum port on the side of the pool, so I have to use either the vacuum hose attachment or the skimmer basket. The pool has a variable speed pump.

I wanted to add a VacMate like this (link) but the basket for the VacMates I have found is too large for the skimmer basket area in my pool (7"). I was also considering a surface skimmer that attaches to the vacuum hose (link). Does anybody have any experience with these products, or something similar?

Mostly I am using the vacuum system and skimming my pool with a net, and want something to help supplement the manual skimming. My goal is to be able to vacuum and skim the pool, hopefully simultaneously.

Skimmer Baskets Popping Out of Place

I know I have been posting a lot lately, but I just had my entire pool renovated from plumbing to liner and everything in between.
Before my pool contractor is "off the hook", I want to make sure I understand everything.
This problem with the skimmers I have read is a simple fix by placing a rock inside the skimmer basket.
My additional questions are what could be the cause of the skimmer baskets popping out of place...not completely but just hovering out of place?
Also, for new construction, shouldn't this be something that doesnt happen?
A few other notes: my pool contractor still has not installed eyeballs in the returns.
I do see sometimes see occasional air bubbles coming out of the returns.
I also see some tiny air bubbles hugging the walls.
My psi is anywhere between 9 and 21 depending on the speed of the pump.
If anything else is needed to troubleshoot please let me know.

Pool Pump Recommendations - Variable Speed

HI all,

I'm looking for recommendations for a new pool pump. I have a Hayward Super Pump (1Hp), that has recently decided to stop working. I think the bearings are seized. I can't turn the impeller, even when I've removed the motor from the wet end. I had been interested in upgrading to a variable speed pump for the purported energy savings and now seems like the time ( I might pull the old pump apart and rebuild it later).
I have a 20x40 foot pool with an avg depth of 8ft. I have a Hayward sand filter with 3.1sq ft of area (63GPM), a Titan Titanium Heat exchanger, and 2" pipes. I have 2 return lines and a main drain, a skimmer drain, and a vacuum port. How do I know what HP is sufficient (I felt circulation was maybe a bit weak) but that wont be overkill. I was thinking about the Hayward Super pump VS but had a company quote me on the Pentair Intellipro VS at about twice the cost. Thoughts?

Cleaning coverstar

Need some help on the best way to clean our our auto cover.

Have been through a big backyard Reno and the vault and the top of the cover I'm sure are covered in filth potentially algae etc. I am worried it basically is entering the pool every time I open and close it.

What is the best way to go about cleaning it for organics etc on the surface and then also cleaning out and cleaning up any organics in the vault?

Also I don't think the bottom of the cover is going to be easily accessible but I'm hoping if I raise the chlorine levels a bit and let it sit on the water after cleaning the top and the vault that should take care of the underside?

thanks in advance

Losing water from pool when tanning ledge is on

I have a tanning ledge that spills into our main pool. When I shut off the tanning ledge the water level in main pool seems to be steady. When water is sent to the tanning ledge, over the course of 24 hours I lose .5-1.0 inches of water in main pool (15,000 gallons). I don’t see any obvious leaks near the tanning ledge. And not sure how to test to find out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Where is the air getting into system?

Hi,

I need help narrowing down the location of air leak in my inground concrete pool system. Attached image shows the system. Water from two skimmers go into the pump via a jandy valve. Pump doesn't have any air bubbles. So, it doesn't look like a suction-side air leak.

Is the filter introducing these air bubbles? What should I check/fix there?

And if it's not the filter, what are the other possibilities?

Thank you!

Green pool after 3 days no filter

Lost power in Texas for 3 days. We have it back today. Pool is green but my test results seem fine?
FC 2
CC 0
CYA 40
Should I still SLAM? Is the water safe? Can’t imagine it is.
One thing to note is the pool had ALOT of debris in it from the storms. The pool was clear yesterday but all the debris was on the floor. Could it be that’s it’s all getting moved around as the filter runs?

Testing / App questions

Hello all.
First time caller, long time listener here.
I have a question or two about testing and logging on the pool math app.
First, the OTO chlorine test on the color block with the ph test, is that recorded anywhere and does it matter since I’m doing the other chlorine tests in the kit anyway ?

Second, the kit had me testing for combined chloramines (CC) and I’m not seeing where to add that to the app.

Third, the total of my FC test and the CC test should be recorded at “total chlorine (TC) but the app only has an entry for “combined chlorine”.
So I just want to be sure I recording the correct stuff in the appropriate areas.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

OCLT timing question

I recently had some slippery sections of liner so decided to do a SLAM and brush aggressively before I had a bigger issue to deal with, Cya 40, FC level aiming for 16. Not sure why that happened because my FC levels have been > 7 the whole time, but I am wondering about my autocoder needing to be cleaned and working on that.

My issue is the OCLT, Due to me being the only person who can test the water, kids and work schedule for the next few weeks it will be impossible for me to test right before sun up.

Last night my FC was 16 topped up before bed. When I tested this morning it was 14. This has been consistent the last two night. CC 0-0.5 ( faint tinge disappears with 1 drop). I am able to test around the time sun has been hitting the pool area for around 3 hours as it was the last 2 days bright sun, but the autocover (opaque) was on the whole time. I try to leave it open as much as possible but unable to due to safety when I am at work.

How should I go about trying to interpret the OCLT in these circumstances? Would 3 hours with the cover on cause any tangible FC loss for the OCLT? Water continues to remain clear. (SWG off during this process).

Where To Get Winter Cover for Kidney Pool

I have a kidney shaped pool, and I need a new cover for the winter.

My current cover was supplied by the pool maintenance company, before I started doing it myself.

the cover is falling apart - it's a Meyco.

I would prefer to buy something else. This is my second Meyco, and they seem very poorly made. The stitching in the long tapes fails pretty quickly.

Any suggestions?

Hayward SP1084 skimmer leaking at mouth

I have been loosing a ton of water from my pool , between investigating the leak and speaking to the PO of the house I narrowed it down to the skimmer gaskets / liner in the area of that to be the problem.

I am ordering the gaskets from inyopool

I plan to drain slightly below and disassemble change gaskets re assemble but does anyone have photos , or instructions on the order of everything and also should I be using silicone and or pool Puddy as well ? Never did this before and it’s my first pool plus I have a broken foot so that is really limiting my mobility during this repair

Salt reading higher than pool store

The first week I got my water tested at the pool store, they said the salt reading was 3518. After adding all of my chemicals and getting water tested the following week, they said my salt reading was at 2800.

I've tested my salt level and my Aquarite displays 3400 and test strip 3400 as well. How can it be off by 600 in just one week. I went to another pool store the following week and they said my salt level is at 2624 and to add 1/2 bag of salt.

I've even recalibrated my Aquarite and still displays 3400. I'll be honest, I certainly don't think I can trust pool stores for my salt reading. Any feedback from someone else experience the same issue would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Luc

TFP Clear (with a twist)

Good morning all, I suspect lots of new members this weekend with the unofficial kick off of summer, especially for those of us in the North.

I soft opened my pool last weekend, pulled cover off, relubed all the gaskets got plumbing hooked up to get circulation going, water clear, tested FC at 10 still - 11th year in a row opening with TFP methods, clear water and plenty of FC.

A week later though my water just doesn't quite have TFP sparkle, but it's definitely clear. (I just tossed in the Dolphin to get good pic, I don't typically run it with lid open!)

20230526_193835.jpg

That's about 4 feet of water. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me. I have a "TFP clear" test which is sit underwater w back to the wall, mask on and I should be able to clearly see the details of the stone pattern on the other side. Did that test (after a jog, cold water!) and still after a week of circulation I wasn't seeing the stone pattern 30 feet away.

Well, it's only been a week, ducks have been making daily visits... but still. FC consumption has been only 1-2 daily the past week and it's never fallen below 6 (opened to cya of 40, now raised to 60ish) so nothing going on there.

Maybe my cartridge filter is wearing out, or maybe I accidentally put in the old back up that I've kept around for 8 years without ever using? Filter pressure hasn't moved much....

Open it up and.... mystery solved! Mind you, I lubed the O ring and lubed the lock ring (amazing hack I read here many years ago, I used to have to use a rubber mallet to loosen it) and was very deliberate in checking all the connections/unions, and yet somehow did not put the filter cartridge in!

20230526_193240.jpg

So after a week with no filter media my pool was still objectively clear using TFP methods! Good reminder for me to make a donation.

Running pump on high so should have my TFP sparkle back in a day or so.

Happy Memorial Day weekend TFP!

Paul

cannot login to my IntelliCenter2 app

Last week, I noticed that my pool is not running. I walked to the controller and noticed that its time and date is not correct. I changed the mode from internet to manual and set the time and the date. Then, the pool started running on its schedule. Later, I found that I was not able to login to my IntelliCenter2 app on my cellphone. And, when I logged in to the IntelliCenter webpage from my computer, it showed that the status is offline. I think that the problem started after we had a power outage in our neighborhood. Again, I walked to the equipment pad; and this time, I noticed that I had the Pool icon but didn't have my Spa on the screen of the controller (please see the photo I took from the controller screen). I used to have both pool and spa on the screen, and I could switch between pool mode and spa mode. I would appreciate it if anyone could help me fix this. Thank you in advance. @Jimrahbe @ajw22 @Turbo1Ton @matthewsunshineflorida

Dolphin working but not communicating with power supply.

So, started my Active 30 this morning from my phone. About the time it started the self-test, I got an error in the app stating the robot is not responding and asking me to check the blue cable. The little guy appears to be working fine... doing his thing right now, cleaning away. It just seems the feedback to the power supply is acting up. I turned it off, re-seated the blue cable (after blowing it out... you know, it worked for the old Atari cartridges), and started it up again with the same result. Anyone run into this before?

Pool deck vacuum / sweeper

Hey, all! Boy is this a hard one to google, because it either brings up pool vacuum results or industrial floor sweepers. :)

Want to be clear that I'm not talking about deep cleaning (power washing), I'm talking about daily maintenance.

I'm looking for recommendations for a walk behind concrete pool deck sweeper / vacuum. Like many, I'm sure, my in ground pool is surrounded by a lot of stamped concrete (more sqft than my house and also wraps around my house and pool house via continuous sidewalks). That stamped concrete is surrounded by landscaped garden beds. Initially when I moved in, those garden beds were in disarray and so I just used a blower to blow everything off the deck. Even this was frustrating to no end, because I have four mature trees on each corner of my pool. When it rains, my deck is covered in stuff, and the blower, as powerful as it is, can't direct everything well enough. Now all of my garden beds are cleaned up and I can't have dirt and debris blowing into them, so I'm on the lookout for a residential outdoor sweeper. Automated would be the dream, but I think I'm a few years early for something that's heavy duty and reliable enough, plus I have kids to do that ;). It does not need to be battery powered, I have plugs everywhere. It can be though. I also see there are powerless ones that just require pushing. I'm open to that, if they actually work.

So what are y'all's experiences? Surely I'm not the only one who doesn't have a bare field around their pool.

HELP! Aquapro 2hp cartridge Filter set-up

I just installed and started up my filter system yesterday. Everything appears to be correct and water readings are great. PSI on low speed is about 3psi. When on high speed it is around 12psi. According to the manual I need to clean the filter at 10-12psi. This is a brand new filter and this can't be correct after running for one day. Can someone assist me here?
