Birds in the skimmer basket

Went to clear my skimmer basket this afternoon and I found not one, but TWO dead starlings in there. Now, I can see getting one in there every now and then. But, I can't for the life of me figure out how I ended up with two at the same time. Anybody ever get two birds at one time in a skimmer?

Got nothing.

Craig
The exact same thing happened to me today. Openning the pool this weekend, so shocking in progress and lots of brushing and vacuuming. So emptying out the skimmer 2-3 times a day. I noticed 7-8 starlings in the yard this afternoon. Went to empty the slimmer and found 2 dead starlings. I had found squirrels in the past, but never birds. I don’t understand how 2 dead ones could pop up within 2 hours. I assume they tried to drink and got poisoned from the shock?

Spine?

Thanks I usually only run those during cottonwood season, and it looks like I am out. I can makeshit something, but whatever it was is long since stopped floating, so more worried about the main drain and the liner with any kind of brushing or vacuuming. Not sure if I should just go as normal, vacuum and no robot, or wait for it to filter more and see if I can see the bottom?

Thinking this was a bunny based on other things.

TF Comparator Block vs Strips very different results: which to trust?

TF-100 Comparator Block shows a ph at 6.8 or lower while HTH strip shows pH at ideal. Which can I trust and might something more be going on here?

Background:
We purchased a home with a 2yr old 26k gallon auto cover in ground pool end of last season last year (live in upper midwest). Pool was well maintained and I just had to manage shock and chlorine pucks (in auto chlorinator) for a few more weeks until it was professionally closed. This season I'm attempting to manage the pool entirely on my own (after professional opening) using liquid chlorine.
It had been going well, however work got busy and I didn't check or add liquid chlorine for a few days (I know - very bad). The TF-100 Comparator Block was showing very low to no chlorine and a ph level of 7.2. The water wasn't as clear anymore - could see bottom of 3ft depth but no longer at the 8ft depth. In the few days leading to today I've added liquid chlorine. The level is consistent around 2 and running the filter 24/7 is slowing clearing the water back up. However this morning I tested and noticed the pH level at 6.9. I've add 24oz of Sodium Bicarbonate and testing a few hours later and the lever seems worse (first attached photo). To rule out any issue I tried a test strip and oddly enough it shows the pH at closer to ideal (second attached photo). What could be going on here and which should I trust?
You cant trust the strips. Just toss them and use the taylor kit. You should also be using the FAS-DPD chlorine test and not the yellow OTO test. The OTO test is just for quick checks of “do I have some chlorine or not”.

Stenner Pump - Can I add one?

Welcome to TFP.
The AquaLink is a RS-4 because there are only 4 relays in the box.
Neither of your Jandy VS pumps are controlled by the automation? did you not connect a RS-485 cable from the VS pump to the automation?
If you are switching to Stenner pump injection, will you need to keep that mineral device? Remove that and put a tee in there to inject the chlorine.

Can you explain which each of the breakers are powering? Too difficult to follow all the wires.

Thermowell install

Maybe?
My concern is the metal well is in contact with pool water and the th16 runs on 110v. Electrocution hazard? A plastic well seems safer.

Is there a better way to insert the temp sensor into the system?
Maybe?

Replacing Propane Heater

When I get the expansion board put in and connect the Intellivalve to Valve C, will I be able to associate that valve C to the SPA circuit?
I am not sure where you are going to put the new valve???

Stock from the factory, the EasyTouch come with 4 valve drivers.. Intake, Return and A and B..

The Intake and Return valve move when selecting the Pool or Spa modes.. This operation can not be changed,

Valves A and B can be assigned to any circuit. I assume so would valve C, but not sure how you could add it.

The EasyTouch cannot use any kind of expansion module??? Do you have an EasyTouch or IntelliTouch?

ScreenLogic does not add anything to how the EasyTouch works, it just allows you to use your PC or phone to control it.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Post construction pool opening vs heavy amounts of dirt?

Call local pool companies and inquire if they have a standalone vacuum rig that will vacuum to waste. It costs you about $150 plus some water and in an hour you have a clean pool.

Oh wow, that's perfect. Yah I'll do that. Thanks. Didn't realize that was an option, but makes sense especially given the setup you've shown above.

Dead end run after return line

Found the link…under “Pipe Size and Flow Rates”

My pool is small so I only have two returns. One return will feed a wall jet with a sweeping elbow, and a separate dedicated return from a heat pump will also use a sweeping elbow to feed a separate jet.

Is it a mistake to terminate to the jets with these sweeps? I don’t see there being an issue since these are sweeps and not tee’s. However, I thought I’d check to be certain.

Trouble raising FC...

"1-2 year lifespan", yikes. I think I got this kit back in 2017... Ok looks like I need to order some new reagents before we go any further...

Where is the best/cheapest place to get them? It seems like the only ones I ever use is FC/TC...
The TF-100 is the best for the money. Tftestkits.net

Note that TC is not a real thing. Its just the FC and CC summed together. You should be testing FC, CC, CYA, pH pretty regularly in a tub. Im not super knowledgable on tubs though.
