Very low CYA , can we just use pucks until it raises then switch back to liquid chlorine ?

Dang it …. I knew I screwed up . I thought since no one is swimming in it for a week or so and the chlorine levels are good , I could run 2 pucks ever couple days and raise it. Just bought a $60 bucket of pucks on Sunday and already opened it 😩🤦🏻‍♂️
Won’t hurt just beware of the effects.
Here’s what each dissolved puck will do (if 8oz.)

It will take a while to get up to swcg cya levels
Use the rest for vacations. They will last forever if kept dry

pH not rising with aeration

I added some dry stabilizer to increase my CYA, and it dropped my pH from an already low 7.2 down to 7.0. I figured no problem, a day or three of aeration and I’ll have it right up into the mid-7’s, I’ve done it many times before, but this time progress appears to be much slower than I remember.

It has been 36 hours, and pH has only increased from 7.0 to 7.1, whereas memory tells me I should be seeing more like 0.3 ppm in 36 hours.

Aeration is done by a sprinkler head on one return, and simply aiming the other return up at the surface. I have the solar cover folded back in both areas, to expose the surface, but otherwise covering the rest of the pool, as we’re still seeing high 40F’s overnight (today was 47F low to 81F high).

I suspect my pump is running slower (for off-season) than other times I’ve used this trick, and having the cover over most of the surface is probably another factor, but which is likely the bigger detriment to raising pH?

New installation - Low pressure from spa jets & heater issue

I cannot read any of the labels on your gas meter...

Your sediment trap is incorrectly installed on the gas line.

The correct sediment trap design is for the gas to make a 90 degree turn to go into the heater while the sediment can drop down into the sediment trap as shown in the Pentair diagram below. We see many gas line installations with the gas going straight and the sediment trap on a 90 degree bend. The sediment will not make that turn and continue into the gas valve eventually causing it to fail.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I will try and get most of your questions answered with some testing tomorrow. Here’s a better photo of the gas meter label.

delayed opening

I would usually have opened my pool by now, but I have lots of work to do first: rebuild a retaining wall and re-set pavers in the equipment area, and then install a new heater. It is a late spring here: daytime temperatures in the 70s, but nights still getting down to high 40s and low 50s. (night-time lows should increase to 60s this week).

Here's my question: am I better off leaving my mesh cover on the pool for another week or two until all the work is done (resigning myself to a longer-than-usual period for the water to clear) , OR should I pull off the cover now and drop a portable pump with pipe extension into the pool to create at least some water circulation?

So I checked the rectifiers for a short. I get continuity on the left rectifiers between the top two legs. I also see that one of the yellow wires looks like it has gotten a little hot. I don’t see a sticker on the salt cell for part number. Is there a way to check salt cell for a short? Not sure which pins to test on the salt cell cord.

trichlor is also acidic- this can bite you if you’re not careful about monitoring ph & ta.
Its fine to use them just beware of all the effects which you may or may not need.
For more than just a little cya bump I prefer to just use dry stabilizer. As mentioned above it is also cheaper.
