Really NEED some input! Dig is done! Coastal SoCal new build

IF you go with an ET, get the 520543 or the 520545, depending on how many items you wish to control with relays.

The Intellicenter I have no experience with.

The IntellipH is good if you will have to add acid frequently. It adds what you tell it to. It would be great if they would integrate a pH probe and manage the acid addition based on that.

The IntelliCenter (Pentair's newest automation system) has a network jack. If you use the EasyTouch or Intellitouch you will need Screenlogic for computer/cell phone control.

The Raypak has no moving parts, is extremely simple and easy to repair. It is without question the most reliable heater out there and it costs the same as the others...

I'll whip up a lighting diagram later
That is super helpful info! Thank you so much. I really appreciate it and will relay this to my PB.

I'm assuming the ET doesn't have a network jack, then? I guess that's one for my husband to decide on. I'm assuming intellipH is something we can add later if we find ourselves needing to add acid frequently?

The stairs will create a big shadow so you need a light on the other side. This is what I would suggest with MicroBrites

Wow- that is AMAZING!!! What do you think the cost difference would be (ballpark) for doing something like that vs. the 2 globrites in the pool and 1 in the spa that is what my husband thinks will be sufficient? I know with 3 kids (and more when friends are over) pool lights are not only an aesthetic value, but a safety one. I don't want to regret not making it bright enough, but of course not breaking the bank is important as well. :(

You add Screenlogic2 for network/wifi connectivity with the ET.

Intelliph can be added later. Be sure you leave a spot for it on your equipment pad if you decide to add it.

Each light is probably around $300 so the cost of conduit wire and installation is realistically $500 each. Who knows what your Builder will charge though...

Okay, okay, okay twist my arm! We can talk bling!

So on the steps and bench/step by spa you can/should put in "marker" tiles. You can use your waterline tile. If you pick 6x6 tiles you can have them cut in 1/4s and turn them on their points to use as the maker tiles. If you pick 1x1 tiles you can run two rows for a pretty set up OR you can use 4 of them to make a "diamond" and space them out evenly. If you pick the 1x1 you will want them to use the plaster instead of grout on the marker part.

So show me what you like and I will help you pick it out!!!

Hi Kim! On the first page of this thread is a pic of the samples I have here. I really liked NPT's Arctic Lagoon, but it was discontinued due to breakage issues. Then I really liked the tile martuned used in his pool (Sunstone Lagoon NPT) but my NPT store looked it up by the catalog #'s and can't locate it at all, so maybe it is gone as well. I also like NPT Lightwaves either blue or aquamarine, and one from Mastertile that is almost identical to the look of NPT's Arctic Lagoon. I think I want 1x2 tiles. Maybe I'll have to compromise and do a porcelain tile for the waterline.... but ugggh- yet another decision to have to make. Seems like the Mastertile AIM glass I like is about $.30 more per square foot than the NPT Lightwaves. Kind of surprised by that. Here are the remaining contenders close up:

NPT Lightwaves Aquamarine

I don't think those Lighwaves sample photos show how pretty they are IRL. The Mastertile glass tiles are a bit less iridescent and a bit more translucent. I'm not sure which I'm leaning toward. I just want it to play off of the ocean in the distance, and the NPT blue may have too much purple and the aquamarine may have too much yellow/green.... but of course it's all dependent on the angle you see it from.

Are there any special issues with the heavily iridescent tile finish? I'm not sure my husband loves that look, but I love how it sparkles under water!

Thank you! Do the microbrites put off as much light as the globrites? As in, would it be more cost effective to put in a few less globrites (with maybe a bit less evenly lit results) over four microbrites in the pool with a more evenly distributed light coverage? We kind of got hammered in the budget department by the city requiring a large concrete pad under the pool.

With them being glass they can be cleaned easily so that is good!

I LOVE 1x2 tiles! Those are my fav size!

Okay colors:

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the middle ones. I also LOVE the other two................BUT if you are wanting to play the ocean's colors then the top one is it. The purple in the middle one puts it in last place :( LOL The greens in the bottom one puts it in 2nd place as some water does have a green hue at time. The top one come the closest to true ocean color to me AND it is oh so pretty and BLINGY!!!

For the bench and steps I say two rows of the 1x2 will work great there!

Now if you "have" to go to 6x6 tile we can put the pretty tiles in every once in a while to pretty it up.

They are a modernized version of the globrite and are supposed to be brighter. I don't really know as I've never seen the two side by side.

How would that work?Turns out the tile I (we) like is not exclusive to Mastertile-it's AIM tile: [h=1]Artistry In Mosaics Poured Series 1x2 Glass Tile | Turquoise Brick [/h]I know I've read about AIM tile on here- but can't remember if it was good or bad.

thanks!

I was charged about $350 for each globrite installed but they also ordered the 100 feet wired one and didn't even need half that.
thanks- and ugggh!

6x6 tile + 1x2 = several 6s with a 6" row of the 1x2. Of course they would have to cut these at the ends. It might look better to go 12" with the1x2. We will have to play around with it to see what looks best if we do the "accent" of 1x2 instead of solid 1x2. Me? I would do the whole water line with the 1x2 as it is SO pretty and blingy!!!

The thread I found when doing a search for AIM tile showed some VERY pretty tile. They did not mention any problems with it.

Kim:kim:

We are approved to continue with the next phase!
I'm trying to find the best deal on that AIM tile. Looks like shopping from an online site for the same tile will be better than the price the local store can do- even with shipping.
Anyone know of an awesome online tile retailer (in terms of beating competitor's prices)?

It's go time, people! We had to dig much much deeper than normal to please the soil engineer- although as they dug the soil ended up being super compacted and even more stable than most pools they dig.... so there goes a ton of extra $. But today we poured the pad of concrete. A ridiculous amount of concrete!
Tomorrow is steel! The plumbers came today to map things out and the heater, pump and filter arrived. :) My PB is just an absolutely lovely person. He is so open to any input and looked into the Raypak even though he didn't have personal experience with it and thanked me for bringing it up to him. Brian, I know you mentioned model 406A and that is what I told him, but this one is 407A? What is the difference?

The 407A is the low nox version which is a requirement in California
Of course! California and their requirements for everything!

Ok- back to a lighting question- 5 total globrites at $509 a piece isn't something my husband wants to spend.
Would you do 1 globrite in the shallow end where there would be a shadow from the stairs, an intellibrite in the middle of the pool, and a globrite in the spa
OR
3 globrites in the pool (two spaced in the area beyond the stairs and one in that shallow end corner) and one globrite in the spa?

Or would you recommend an intellibrite for the spa?

Thanks!
