Help! I tried posting this in a pool maintenance Facebook group about 10 hours ago, but it still hasn’t been approved, so I’m asking you guys. We had our pool covered for about 5 days because the weather got crummy and we had torrential downpours. I also didn’t feel well so I didn’t go out to check the water and chemicals during that time. When we uncovered it the water was green. Normally we can get it back to normally pretty quickly, but we are now going on like day 4 and it’s still green, and we have a pool party tomorrow 😢, and also a reservation on Sunday and during the week, so I am stressing out! It is currently 6pm where I live. I will try pretty much anything at this point.

Last night the ph was 7.4 (previously 6.8 or lower), TA was 10 so we added baking soda, FC 0.4, CC 1.2. We added 2 gallons of liquid shock last night, and this morning it is still just as green. The numbers all look good now but still green. I just added 2 bags of HTH super shock since I cannot find HTH Green to Blue kit anywhere local. We’ve also been running the robot vacuum and brushing. Our pool is 25,000 gal. What else can we do? We are really running out of time 😥

Current numbers:
Ph: 7.6
FC: 3
CC: 0.5
TA: 60
CYA: 40

Unfortunately, you are not going to go from green to crystal clear in one day. We can help you get clear, but you will need to forget about the shock, super shock, and the other treatments from the pool store.

First, how do you test your water?

Here is how you clear the pool. Will not happen overnight.
Get a proper test kit if you do not have one. Link-->Test Kits Compared
If you don't have a test kit, then add 5ppm of liquid chlorine per day until it arrives.
Print this out, read it three times, keep it with you and follow it. Link-->SLAM Process
Use Pool Math to help you with chemical additions and amounts. Link-->PoolMath

You need to do the
SLAM Process with liquid chlorine.
Follow all the instructions in the article .

To do this you will need an fas/dpd test & cya turbidity test which are included in
Test Kits Compared
How are you currently testing?
2 gallons of 10% liquid chlorine only adds 8ppm fc to your pool.
If you’re cya is accurate your shock/ slam level is 16ppm

I use the Taylor kit to test. Shocking last night with cal hypo seemed to do the trick. I then added flocc, set it to recirculate for an hour or 2, then turned off the pump for the rest of the evening. I only see a little bit of sediment at the bottom, so it seems like the flocc didn’t really work. It’s also still quite cloudy. FC is currently 12.5. See the new pic attached to my post.

Floc Won’t help kill or remove algae, but if you don’t vacuum to waste, it can gunk up your filter.

If you want a crystal clear pool, you are going to need to
SLAM Process.

That means targeted, measured doses of liquid chlorine at levels appropriate for your CYA, over time. It’s not a “throw everything but the kitchen sink in and hope” method, but it will get your pool clear, and following TFP principles will keep it that way.

Don’t turn your filter back to filter until you vacuum all that floc to waste and get it out of the water. It can wreck the filter,
