New Orleans - - Moved to New Thread!!

Welcome to TFP.

How many gallons will be in your pool?

You will have a spa?

Pentair; Transformer for Hardscape Lights;

You need a transformer for the IntelliBrite 5G lights.

Easy Touch #520540; Screen Logic 2 Interface #522620;

Consider getting the IntelliCenter Pool/Spa bundle that includes a SWCG, and two actuators. It is more modern then the EasyTouch, modular, and includes network connectivity so you don't need ScreenLogic.

Kreepy Krawly Platinum Cleaner;

This is the 21st century. Get a robot pool cleaner instead.

Various Check Valves, 2 and 3-way valves; Actuators;

Ok

System 3 Black Filters;

What size filtration?

Bermuda Gunite Skimmers;

OK

400K Heater;

A Pentair MasterTemp gas heater?

5G Lights;

You mean Pentair IntelliBrite 5G lights? White or Color?

Consider getting MicroBrite lights instead that may have better reliability.

Wallsprings;

What is that?

Tall Rainbow Feeder;

Using Trichlor tablets in a feeder will cause you to have ever rising CYA and require draining the pool every few months to keep reasonable CYA levels. Consider getting a Salt Water Chlorine Generator instead.

and others...

AJW: I appreciate your input! since my original post, I’ve been reading quite a bit in the ‘under construction’ forum. I must say, I’ve learned a lot and generated lots of questions. Let me just say: I plan to read and read and research through the weekend. I’m hoping to come back Monday a little more informed!

I’m so glad I stumbled upon this site - and I mean literally today!!

The PB (more like an offsite consulttant) I was planning on using has suddenly gone MIA. But, I’m a quick study!!

Shannon I just want to pipe in that I really love a big pool like you're planning! Please, please....tell me you're going to have a good sized deep end?? One that allows for diving safely?? Minimum of 7+ feet?? Your kids will LOVE it, I promise.

OK TFP Braintrust, I've got an 'easy' question: Knowing the West & North Walls will be 36" High with grass on the other side, Where would you locate the Skimmer?

And, what is the best way to keep the swim platform clean [with my layout]? Thank you very much!

AJW: I’ve indicated the prevailing wind with the red arrows. I don’t think it would be practical to place a skimmer on that North wall. So I’m thinking the 2 places I’ve indicated with Green dots?

And then there’s the issue of the skimmer behind the sitting ledge???

can’t the Returns be directed to move the surface debris?

Auburn: Yeah, the eating scene in New Orleans will come back in the Spring (when I get the pool done!). Dragos is still the best bite of food in the city!!

Where will your returns be placed?

You going to have a main drain In the deep end?

I would put the skimmer that is in the shallow end on the deep end wall.

AJW: How do I easily make a return work inside the 36” tall wall? I’ll look at some pictures and see if I can find one...

I didn't realize that side was on a slope. You can put the skimmer on the wall but getting to it to clean it out would be a problem. :scratch::brickwall:

So your decking is only in the yellow area.

Where will your returns be placed?

Any photos of the back yard to show the terrain/slope? Is the 36" wall needed as a retaining wall of sorts, or do you just want the wall as a feature (jump off point, place to have water features etc)?

Having a skimmer along the sitting ledge seems like it could be a bit odd but I also don't see another choice, unless both skimmers were on the short shallow end wall. I've seen that in some pools before but I have to assume it's not the most efficient placement.

There is no slope/terrain in the backyard. I wanted to use the wall as a feature; jump-off point and barrier from the rest of the yard. See attached plot plan...

That makes more sense - I couldn't think there would be any property in NoLa with that much slope.

So I wonder if it's possible to have the skimmer set back from the pool edge such that you could still place them on the north and/or west walls, with the basket access lid at ground level behind the wall? I'm sure many here will have input on that.

You have an awesome property.

Yeah, I was able to locate "Extended Throat" Skimmers last night on a search. These appear to give me the added room to place the access lid behind the wall.

Or, I could just do a "Recessed Cut-Out" on the Backside of the wall [Like a Demple], so that I'd have access to the skimmer lid... Shannon
