New Northeastern Pa Build

that was for them to make sure the break is where they needed it vs going off the sections of the pool where it gets more narrow. that's why some paint is gone from moving gravel around.

it's very gradual from the steps but really starts there.

thanks for sticking around Kim! Think you are the only one who is sitting with me at the lunch table. lol

We are here with you in force lol. Once you get the gunite you will be able to rest easy that no matter what you have a pool and pretty much nothing bad can happen. There may be some delays but you won't have to worry about the elements anymore.
I love the space you have and your design is perfect.

Ohhhh my goodness, how did I miss this thread? I just read through all 8 pages. I learned a lot. You asked a lot of smart questions, and I love all the details you provide. Thank you!

First, GUNITE WILL HAPPEN ON WEDNESDAY! Say that three times fast. Woohoo! Gunite is when my pool started feeling like a pool. We'll need lots of pics, of course. Speaking of pics, yours are beautiful! I love your view! This pool is going to be so much fun.

And please tell me you're still doing the Mickeys....!!! :p

I also missed this one, been buried in my own flaming build. Looks like you are making some good progress. Ill try to check in more often to see if I can offer any guidance

Oh I'm not alone. Lol. I just figured my build was boring cause there are some crazy good builds here.

I can't provide a lot of help yet cause I have never owned s pool so I'm learning as I go. I am learning a lot.

So today. Oh well no rebar. Had a mixup. The drawings got lost at the rebar company. The call to getcthe drawings got looked over by mistake so we got pushed to monday. Ya know though no big deal cause senior said he only needs a day to prep plumbing for gunite. He is only doing stubs for gunite and hen he will do the full plumbing and pressure test it. So not really an issue. Rebar company said they are on track so we should not get pushed.

Ya Mickey heads. I did a mock up and we didn't think it would look right. What we would like to research and I haven't had any luck yet but I have seen a builder use varied size round glass tile that he uses for markers in a row. They look like 2 inch rounds and smaller all random. I have started looking online but haven't had any luck. If someone has some links that would be cool. If we can't find something like that we might just do a row of our 2x2 that we r using for the tile line.

I actually have a question about that. When u do a line of say 1x1 or 2x2 for markers do u actually grout them or do u just use the plaster to fill in grout lines since they r totally under water? I say that cause what if one pops off? How do you regrout it? Is it a personal choice? I think using the plaster would look better. That poses another question. What kinda grout do a lot use? I was thinking about using the premixed mapie grout that has a bit of epoxy in it. I say that type cause if any tiles pop and they need to be regrouted the color would be the same cause no mixing would be involved. I have seen in the field with home construction some guys mix a little more wet and it changes the color. Or am I thinking too much?

so if anyone has any tile ideas for rounds let me know. I got the idea from monogram pools if u look at Tony's builds on Houzz. I know they r custom made for him I guess. But I think it look awesome!

Calling Grumpie! He had them redo his since he did NOT like the grout. OH and they did the wrong color plaster :( They used plaster the next time and it does look MUCH better. I think they put the pretties down then plaster around/over/between them.

Def grout the accent tiles with plaster. If your plaster has pebbles, they will grout with plaster before adding the pebbles to it. And yes they are placed in thin set like normal.

Our glass tile has to set for 21 days before being submerged in water. So they are going to do the thin set, place the tile, and let it cure for 21 days, then do the plaster and use plaster as grout.

Hopefully they get out and do the rebar and gunite soon! That is when you really feel like YES! I am getting a pool!

Maybe I misunderstand the process, but isnt most pebble finish done with the pebbles throughout the plaster and they simply wash the top layer of plaster off to reveal the first layer of pebbles ?

The way my PB explained it is they have the base mix of plain plaster and then the pebbles are mixed in prior to applying to the shell. So for the grouting of the accent tiles, they will take some of the base plaster and use it to grout the tile before the pebbles are mixed in. He confirmed with the guys who plaster that the pebbles wouldn't fit in the grout lines and they only use plain plaster for grouting there.

morning! guess what it's doing here? give up? raining! go figure . . .

thanks for the info everyone. i got an email into that place a lot of you guys use for glass tile on some of the builds. i forget the name right now. i emailed them a pic of what I wanted and i included my plaster and tile colors.

i also found that del tile has a bunch of pebble tile but not sure if they can be used in a pool? i'll call them on monday.

so what i learned here is: thin set to set as usual, find out about cure time, grout with plaster (I'm using quartz).

ok another stupid question. when i brush i'm obviously outside the pool. what is the best brush to use? I also assume I can get a longer wand for it to reach the bottom. my deep end is 6'.

rain rain go away. . . lol just so i can plant some this weekend at least. i want my front to look decent at least since my back looks like a bomb went off back there. lol

Here I am! Yes I would definitely recommend using the plaster/Quartz aggregate rather than grout. It guarantees a consistent finish. But if you do choose to go grout, go with something that is a close match to your finish (White, light grey, blue, etc). Our PB originally used dark grey grout when we had a white based plaster. It looked like dirt and mold.

The good thing is you are asking these questions now. This topic was a complete afterthought for me, after the damage was done.

As for the brush, most standard pool brush poles extend to 15'.

i didn't realize that was the brush i would be using. how long is it? i know 18" wide. i can't find that on the site. I am going to become a member as soon as I order everything. I just haven't gotten around to it. as soon as the shell is shot I was going to order everything.

This is THE brush to have:

TFTestkits.net

Now if you want to go all in.........you can order the bundled set from them as well:

TFTestkits.net
