Hi man :)

I've covered the entire skimmer like you said... fixed them cement holes and small defects now I'm ready for the next step...

At first I wanted to go with vinyl PVC cover but now I'm starting to think maybe I should just paint it and get it done with... I can always put vinyl in the future if I don't like the paint right?

From what I've gathered (How To Paint A Concrete Pool) I can just use acrylic paint.
- Is it the same ordinary acrylic paint used inside my house?
- I was thinking I should probably use some concrete sealer before I paint right?
- DO I need to apply a primer prior to painting if it's fresh brand new concrete?

Anything I should be aware of when painting?

Hi,

I've just finished concrete pouring in my DIY pool and I want to wrap the project as soon as possible, was going for PVC covering at first but now I'm thinking just to paint it for this season...

We don't recommend painting pool. Paints available in the USA are limited by environmental regulations and do not last underwater in a pool. You may have different paints availble then we do.

Concrete is not waterproof and paint does not give you a waterproof barrier. Plaster over the concrete is what waterproofs the pool shell. You meed to apply a membrane waterproof barrier if you choose to use paint.

Just apply on all the cemented walls and floor?

After reading a little bit more I understand that the above doesn't add nothing to my concrete but extra concrete :)
I think what you guy refer to as 'Plaster' is a sealing layer over the concrete... SO, I'll just put that all over the walls and floor and continue from there...

Also, excuse my ignorance but - Why do I need plastering for? Why can't I just use a concrete sealer on the concrete directly? These roll-over paint like sealers...
Isn't plastering made to straighten and smoothen the concrete?

What after the 'plaster'? DO I then apply paint?

How smooth should my plaster be?

I've decided to paint my plaster with epoxy paint... DO I have to make my plaster sand-paper smooth?
- thing is, it seems like using a sand paper on trowel marks smoothens them our texture-wise, I can't feel the mark with my fingers but I can still see it in the plaster - will that go away with the next layers?

I have 2 more layers of water-sealing plaster and on top of that comes the epoxy paint...

Sorry you did not get any replies. Painting is not a long term solution -- paint, at least those available in the US, are not formulated to survive under water for very long anymore.

I would suspect a smoother surface would be better for paint, but I have no experience in it.
 
Plaster for a pool is normally white or some combination of color. Paint no longer is formulated to survive very long under water.
 
Not sure what epoxy paint you are planning to use, but do not use anything that is not specifically designed for pool coating under water. Any paint will release VOC's, and pool paint is supposed to be less harmful. Just ask the man that killed all the fish by putting them in his cement koi pond he had painted with waterproofing paint!

Cured plaster, in and of itself, should be waterproof. Are you sure that what you're seeing is actually plaster, and not bare concrete/gunite? Plaster is normally smoother than your pics, and normally white. As other's have said, painted concrete used to be fairly common in the US years ago, but they got away from it some time ago. It's too tough to make a durable paint that doesn't release crazy chemicals into the water. If it is bare concrete, you'd be better off plastering over it, and they should be able to color to your liking.

You might want to reach out to these people and see if they can help you Armorpoxy. They have an international phone number listed and have epoxy paint products for pools.

Hi man,
Did I upset you in any way? you just disappeared...

Anyhow,
I'm all done with plastering my pool, multiple times (3) and everything is smooth... now I'm laying tiles and getting ready for painting over that plaster with Epoxy paint and then a cover of Polyurethane...

I've got a plumbing question though, I plan on using semi-rigid / something flexible for the pipes in the machines area... is it OK? Should I be aware of anything in specific?

Well...
I've used:
1st - Cement 'beating' 720 - sealing plaster - it has the grey color of concrete, I think it's cement + sand + glue and polymers -> that's what you see in the pictures above
--> 2 layers of that...

Then I've smoothened it all out using a sand paper... 2 days work ... was sure next layer is painting... then realized it's not...

2nd - Elastoseal - Flexible 1-component cement based membrane - It's a flexible rubberish cement and has a yellowish color...
--> 2 layers of that...
I hate troweling!!!

Then another 2 days of smoothening.... and now it's baby's Rear smooth and waiting for painting...

I when to painting factory asking if I can add color to the 2nd layer of plaster and found out it shouldn't be left as is and it has to be painted / sealed with something and they suggested Epoxy paint + Polyurethane cover over it which I'm planning to put as soon as I'll finish with the tiling around the top of the pool...

Is polyurethane good for pools?
I've seen in some videos they have this intermediate layer of cloth-like thing they put in the polyurethane... I didn't get any... is it something that you must have with polyurethane?

Why would you paint over plaster? Plaster is normally the final layer in a pool. What type of plaster did you use?

Flex PVC is fine as long is not the cheap stuff like vacuum hose.

Well... my plaster looks like Crud - color-wise... it's yellowish and pink/purple on spots that were sand polished...
Like I wrote, I've asked the painting factory guy for advice on what should I do with it's colors before using it and he told me to paint it with Epoxy afterwards... :(

Edit -> I thought I wrote it in here but it was on another thread - Pool plastering - smoothening before epoxy painting, Please HELP!

Anyways, about the plumbing, any special type I should get for 'pool' usage... Schedule? or such...
I'll do the machine room plumbing in 2 days probably, when I'll finish with the painting... today doing the tiles around the pool edges :)
 
Based upon the other thread, it doesn't look like you are using pool plaster. You need to use pool plaster for the final finish.

Hi again,
I've tried to connect all my pumps and such and came into 1 problems.
1. Jets are working fine pressure-wise but it seems like it sucks no air when I released the air plug... water is coming out of the air pipe instead :(
