ichlor30 instead of intellichlor40

jh,

We almost never recommend the iChlor... Our members have had better luck with the IntelliChlor.

Do you have a saltwater pool now, or do you just want to add a salt cell to your current pool.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Cells are rated for 24/7 production to create enough FC. With a 2X unit, you only need to run it half as often, doubling it's lifespan. In Katy TX, with a looooooong season, I'd want a 3X or more. Upgrading costs far less than the lifespan gained. I just price checked these this morning :

Let's just use Pentair as an example but they all have similar maths even with price fluctuations.

IC20. $929
IC40. $1050
IC60. $1340

The IC 40 lifespan is literally like buying 2 IC20s

The IC60 is like buying 3 IC20s or an IC40 plus an IC20.

So

IC20 $929
IC40 $1050 or $1858
IC60 $1340 or $2787 or $1979.

So going from 20 to 40 costs 13% more for 2X more life, and going from 20 to 60 costs 45% more for 3X the life.

Welcome to TFP.

How many gallons in your pool?

We recommend the SWG be 2X your pool volume. So the IC30 is good up t about a 15K pool. The IC40 is good for a 20K-30K pool.

The Intellichlor cell is higher quality then the iChlor cell.

thanks for the reply. I’ll stick with intellichlor

makes sense. So even if my pool is 18,000 gallons, I should just install IC60 correct since it will last longer?

jh,

With an 18 K pool you need at least an IC40.. I have a 17K pool and use an IC40.

In theory, an IC60 should last longer, but... Things can go wrong with salt cells, that have nothing to do with how much "chlorine" then can produce.

I have three saltwater pools in the DFW area. Each pool has used up one IC40. One lasted almost 9 years, the other two lasted about 7 or 8 years. Certainly well beyond the average of 5 to 7 years.

You can't go smaller than an IC40, and other than the initial cost, there is no harm in going to the IC60.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Jim R.

Strictly from a cost perspective, even if the IC60 failed ealry, you only paid for a IC29 (if such a thing existed) so it only has to last 45% longer than the IC20 to break even. If it lives any longer, it's all money in your pocket.
