We currently are looking to add a saltwater cell to our pentair equipment pool. We use chlorine tabs, would the ichlor30 work or is it only to replace a current salt water cell (intellichlor 40)? Thank you!
Welcome to TFP.
How many gallons in your pool?
We recommend the SWG be 2X your pool volume. So the IC30 is good up t about a 15K pool. The IC40 is good for a 20K-30K pool.
The Intellichlor cell is higher quality then the iChlor cell.

Thanks Jim, I’ll stick with intellichlor. I currently use chlorine tablets for my pool, looking to switch to salt.jh,
We almost never recommend the iChlor... Our members have had better luck with the IntelliChlor.
Do you have a saltwater pool now, or do you just want to add a salt cell to your current pool.
Thanks,
Jim R.
makes sense. So even if my pool is 18,000 gallons, I should just install IC60 correct since it will last longer?Cells are rated for 24/7 production to create enough FC. With a 2X unit, you only need to run it half as often, doubling it's lifespan. In Katy TX, with a looooooong season, I'd want a 3X or more. Upgrading costs far less than the lifespan gained. I just price checked these this morning :
Let's just use Pentair as an example but they all have similar maths even with price fluctuations.
IC20. $929
IC40. $1050
IC60. $1340
The IC 40 lifespan is literally like buying 2 IC20s
The IC60 is like buying 3 IC20s or an IC40 plus an IC20.
So
IC20 $929
IC40 $1050 or $1858
IC60 $1340 or $2787 or $1979.
So going from 20 to 40 costs 13% more for 2X more life, and going from 20 to 60 costs 45% more for 3X the life.
I would in your climate, yes. (Or whichever brand with similar math). So even if my pool is 18,000 gallons, I should just install IC60 correct since it will last longer?
