Silicone does not need to “cure”, it’s a lubricant and non-hardening sealant for the o-ring, not glue. You can put the pool right back into service after applying it and getting everything sealed back up.

Could be wrong, but I think he glued in a new spyder gasket... @blackhighlighter can you confirm?

Hayward Multivalve repair appears to be good! Pool in recirculating mode. Will continue to do daily 5ppm chlorine adds until test kit arrives and we come up with SLAM steps.

Skimmer sock on- I see flocc particles getting pulled in. Will change sock in a few hours and take a look.

Thanks all!

Oh boy, I started reading all the posts. Good luck with your pool. I will keep reading the posts. Thank you for keeping us all updated.

Blackhighlighter, could you put your type of pool equipment in your signature? What type of filter do you have?
Hi there- I shared some pictures above.
Probably not super helpful. Are you looking for model #’s ?

I think the filter is a Hayward DE filter. That’s about all I know! I will put that in my signature now.

This is day 4 of 5ppm chlorine and day 2 of having pump run the pool in recirculate mode.

The test kit that was ordered does not appear to have shipped yet, but who knows.

I will continue to add the instructed 5ppm of chlorine until the kit arrives!

Hi all- just a quick update. My test kit should arrive this Saturday. I’d like to get started “asap” upon its arrival. I am going to dig into the reading material that @PoolStored shared with me, but is there anything I should be prepared with/have on-hand to get going on the SLAM process?

In the meantime the 5ppm daily adds of chlorine has been going well. A significant amount of clarity is back. Water has gone from skim milk to a little cloudy. I can see the drain now! So, that’s good. Water has been in recirculate this entire time with a skimmer sock. Very little flocc has appeared in it. I might do one more fast vacuum tomorrow with the valve set to waste out. I do see some yellow chud in patches on the bottom from my first vacuum when I had zero visibility.

Thanks all. Looking forward to this! So far so good.

@PoolStored - Test kit has arrived.

My plan today is the following:

  • Read extended test kit instructions that you linked me to (Extended Test Kit Directions Archives)
  • Do final quick flocc vacuum. It appears that safe for a tiny yellow patch, I got the bulk of it.
  • Prep to begin SLAM tomorrow?

Let me know if there are SLAM instructions anywhere. I watched a video on it last night but it was moving a bit quick. I think one thing that had me raising my hand was them mentioning your total pH(?) needs to be X before you start - which I understand, but I don't understand how I'd raise/lower it if that was needed. Hopefully any posted instructions will address.

Looking forward to hearing your advice on next steps - as usual, thank you for your help.

Still doing 5pmm daily adds of liquid chlorine.

INSTRUCTIONS Link-->SLAM Process

Print them out and keep them with you.

Lower pH with muriatic acid.

No need to wait to start slam after your final floc vacuum...

Ok- here are my readings @PoolStored !

CYA: 40-35. Felt like 35.
PH: 7.5
CL: 0 (!?)

Does the zero seem right after 5 days of circulating daily additions of 3 liters? (5ppm)

Water in the basic test kit was crystal clear after adding the 5 drops of the R-0600 solution.

Always round CYA up to the next round ten/decile. 40 is your number. 16 is your FC target.

We use FC for Free Chlorine.

Forget the basic test, use the powder (FAS-DPD) test. <---this is why we bought the test kit!!! 10mL sample size each drop is .5FC

Recalculate and get that chlorine in there...Let's gooooooo!!!

Ok- going to run that test now. Is that app glitchy? I've entered the numbers multiple times and some times it's showing 10 for target FC and other it's showing 14. Numbers are all the same. Regardless, doing FC test now.

No, rock solid, generally, we have made some recent changes and there are a few outstanding.

Send that screen snap to [email protected] ask why the recommendation would be 10 with CYA of 35...seems to be in error.

Just ignore it and enter 16 for target.

The recommended addition should be correct.

Ok - I did the FC test and it gave me a reading of 1. The water was barely pink. Barely.

I def don't have 4 gallons of chlorine on hand. I have about 3, 3.5. I will start tonight regardless. And the idea is tomorrow I do 3-4 tests throughout the day and continue to add. As directed by calculator and the (hopefully) climbing FC levels. Will load up on chlorine tomorrow AM.
