Hello from an excited Newbie in Bixby Oklahoma!!

The original plan has the steps extending 7' into the center of the pool- way too much when the total width is only 14'. With the spa placement on the original, if we TRIED to do the kitchen and the firepit, we would have no room for chairs, etc.
I'm just concerned about the slope on the side where I'm putting the spa in the new design. But I'm trusting they will get it worked out. BUT, I'll be there watching!

How will you walk around the pool on the backside with the columns there? I would consider either some additional decking behind them or some substantial stepping stones as an alternative.

I would leave it just like it is! I like the "old" one but LOVE the new one! So much usable space inside and outside the pool.

Kim

Thanks, Kim! This whole process is making me a bit anxious about my decisions. I have a couple of weeks before the dig happens. Maybe I can get some rope or something and play with the placement.

I was a little concerned about that 'playing with rope' comment at first. I'll assume you are still stable. Please tell us otherwise!

Lol! For the moment, yes, I'm stable! Closing our pool loan this morning. However, I may "lose it" over picking stone, tile and trying to convince my dear hubby that we need to put our existing patio furniture in storage during the build so it doesn't get destroyed, and that since I saved us literally THOUSANDS of $$ getting our utilities moved for free- we can do a couple of necessary things, like a couple of deck chairs, a deck box and gutters around the back of the house to direct the rain run off from eroding the new soil the PB will use to grade the yard. I just don't get why he can't think like me :hammer::scratch::crazy:Maybe that rope will come in handy after all...

So exciting! Yes your steps are extending into the pool. If you plan to make any changes and if you have an HOA, do it now before its approved/submitted to the HOA. Ours was submitted. Then we decided on changes. We were informed by HOA that we would have to resubmit the entire change and go back through approval which could take 30-45 days. We didn't want another delay. So we did not make our changes. I often regret that. So, think carefully about the steps and placement before submission to city and HOA.
I would recess steps and shelf out and we wish we had insisted upon shorter steps. Out PB talked us out of it. Check out Suz steps. They are awesome. Good luck. You will stress some. It's normal. We second guessed our decisions. I still do. It's a lot of money. But your design is lovely either way. No one uses our sunshelf or the bubbler. I like the look. But again wish I'd used the area for less steep steps. [emoji3]

Hi Jannylee! Thanks for the input! We are actually going with Helen's step design. The steps will only be about 2 feet into the pool, the bubbler shelf will be on the patio. They will be lower risers (6-7"). I love Suz's steps and had we been able to do a free form, that may have been an option. The way it is situated, the end of the shelf will be a shallow sitting area or jumping off point. It is positioned at the deepest part of the pool.
Thankfully, the only thing in our HOA covenants about pools is no above ground pools. Nothing stating we need HOA approval to build.
page 17 post #334 has our current design.

Janny-did someone from your HOA actually come out and inspect the pool?? Just curious...

Denise, congrats on your pool loan signing! So you will start after the first of the year?

Yes! Electric is supposed to be moved the first week of Jan. PB said dig will happen 2nd or 3rd week, but most likely 3rd week. It's been a long process to get to this point. I'll be glad when it's done. I don't think I had this much anxiety building our house!

I haven't read your whole thread so I done have a lot of background chatter but I'm gonna watch this build. I hope its smooth! I did see Suz's steps and I love them.

I can't have an in ground pool. Well, let me rephrase that... we could but it'd cost us 100k or so and half of that would go to retaining walls easily!
This was ground breaking day. I remember the weather guy saying we had a chance of rain. It ended up being a beautiful day.

The pool that almost wasn't installed that year because hubby was in a horrible motorcycle accident. My family and my best friend pulled together to help me get this pool up because we were bunghole deep into it already and I wanted hubby in it for therapy.

Our deck I put on. It's not perfect nor is it finished. I'm pretty much a one woman working team here in regards to the pool. My husband just swims in it and I'm fine with that.

You can find my thread by clicking on my username n searching my started threads. But, this hill is why I can't have an inground.

Wow Casey! What a gorgeous view you have!! I hope your hubby is doing better! Motorcycle accidents almost always have bad outcomes. Your pool looks great and seriously beats having no pool!
Our pool is a lifetime (45 yrs!) dream come true for me. We talked about it for years but I never really believed it would happen. It's STILL hard to believe we are actually doing this!
You haven't really missed anything in the beginning of the thread. Just a lot of chit chat :) Hopefully we will have some fun stuff before too long! Thanks for stopping by!
