Hello from an excited Newbie in Bixby Oklahoma!!

That is one smart PB having a pool like that for people to look at. That is the one thing I really agonized over was my finish choices. The rest seemed so easy compared to that. Would the colors go well together? What would the plaster look like in water? I am happy mine turned out nice but it was definitely a stress point.

I really love your selections. I purposely went with a really smooth shiny tile because I was worried about build up. Most of the build up I see is light color lines around the pool and if you have a darker tile it seems worse. So to me the two solutions are either have a tile that cleans easy OR have a really light tile and I think you'll be fine with the light tile approach.

I didn't make it back there today for more pictures but it'll be this week.

So, Ummm, do you think it would be wiser to go with a slick tile? How often does that "white stuff" accumulate? I have zero experience with any of this...

I have been busy on the phone today trying to get things done. It's been a good day with great news!

The telephone company is going to move their lines for FREE. They said that's just what they do when there is a building project and their lines are in the way. Works for me :)

I am waiting to hear from Cox about their lines. We don't have cable so I am hoping they will move their's for free as well.

Gas company is sending a technician on Wednesday morning to evaluate our meter and talk about our gas lines. Not sure they will even be an issue. My brother in law (plumbing contractor) said they won't charge us to upgrade the meter.
My brother in law will move our sewer line for us and charge us a discounted fee. It's still expensive, though.

OKIE dig has been called and all the utilities are supposed to come out to mark their lines by Wed at 12:30.

Now for the BIGGIE!!! I spoke with an engineer at the electric company and I explained where their lines are and why we need them moved, AND the fact that when we built this house in 2002 I had put in our contract that the utilities were to be put to the side of the house for a future pool. That was obviously not done. So....(drumroll, please) they are moving them FOR FREE!!! I feel so blessed!!

I'm praying that Cox will move for free and then I will only have to pay my brother in law.

Oh, and we close our pool loan next Tuesday! Whoop! Whoop!

Good job burning up that phone! WOW! Now the planer in me comes out---------you wrote down names, dates, and times of all of these calls right?? Knowledge is power..........best to have the info even if you do not need it.

Water line tile-------over time you tile may form stuff on them BUT it is mostly on pools that are not maintained the proper way so........you will be learning the BEST pool care system in the world you should be fine. Saying that, we both know a smooth tile is easier to clean than a non-smooth tile. Just something to think about. (I really think your pick will be fine with you care)

Oh yes! I have a pad that I am writing everything on. I'm a list maker. And Okie dig,as well as the utilities I spoke with, cut a ticket when you make a request so I have the ticket numbers which are traceable.

Hmmmm...I'm going to think on the tile....

Thanks Helen! Are you still on hold until spring?

Yep, and its wearing on me. So long as I don't peek into the disgusting water and leaves accumulating in the shell, I am OK. We do have landscapers coming in this week to spruce up our gardens (remove leaves, mulch, etc) before winter sets in, that will be nice.

Re: sunshelf depths, after 6-9 inches, you can't have bubblers, so that may be a factor for you making a decision.

nini do you think you will put a lounger of some sort on it? If so would you want your body, bottom, feet, etc in the water, over the water, just touching the water, etc. Now measure to have it that deep.

If you think it will be used more for sitting and splashing on how deep would you want the water? Waist high, just covering the legs, chest high, etc?

Measure for that!

Just giving you some things to think about and letting you go from there.

I have seen them as low as 6" and deep as 16" so...................it all depends on YOUR needs!

Extra stir bars are nice to have but not a must have. Likewise some have a dedicated cylinder and stir bar for each test. I have salt strips but almost never use them. I add salt based on Pool Math and trust my salt reading on the AquaRite panel. It's as accurate as the strips anyway, at least until the cell starts to fail. That shouldn't be for several years.

So unless you want the extra FAS-DP reagent for chlorine testing (the XL option), that should be it. You've got plenty of time to study Pool School while it's being built.

Thanks Chief!

I find a 3' to 4' length of 1/4 inch pvc pipe to be very handy to get my water sample. Put your thumb over one end, put the other end in the pool, take your thumb off the end and then put it back. Then transfer your sample to a cup. Kinda cold to be sticking my arm in the pool and saves the knees. You can find the pvc already cut the right length at HD or lowes.
