Hello from an excited Newbie in Bixby Oklahoma!!

I am not a fan of motorcycles either. My husband is on his third. He's sold the others. The one he has now is more scooter-like.
In health care, motorcyclists are referred to as organ donors :/

Love the car, Chief!!

Marion, where in Il are you from? I'm originally from NW Indiana, about 30 miles outside of Chicago. Lived in Il for a couple yrs., move to OK in 1990. Hubby worked for Amoco downtown Chicago, we transferred here.

... swim lessons and water safety are highly valued in our home. These will begin in earnest soon! I've also told them that they need to get their BLS certifications.
and I have thought about the "jumping in" factor with my depth, that's why I was thinking of going deeper but I don't want an area that doesn't get much use.....oh, decisions, decisions...
Same here. I told my kids "you don't have to learn to ride a bike if you don't want to, but you HAVE to learn to swim." One thought on the depth if I may (I know you're probably settled on it), the 6' is not a waste. When the grandkids are older but still acting like kids it may come in handy. A 14 yo jumping in to 5 ft may be able to use a little wiggle room. I put a roman end w/ bench in my deep end (6.5') and we utilize the space so much b/c we have a place to sit & don't need to tread water the whole time. You're pool is going to be great! Good luck!

I agree about swimming. We were taught at a young age n loved the water. My kids were taught as soon as I started wanting a pool. They love the water. And now my granddaughter, she'll be 3 in May and as soon as she got brave enough to want to get in last year without crying, I started her with kicking her feet to show her it moves you through the water. We should be able to grasp more this swim season since she's a little older but she will learn to swim like a fish. It's in LaLa's Rules. (I'm LaLa)

Speaking of IL, I spent 24 years with Northbrook Fire Department (Chicago's north shore). Don't miss the winters though.

Janny-did someone from your HOA actually come out and inspect the pool?? Just curious...

Denise, congrats on your pool loan signing! So you will start after the first of the year?

Not to my knowledge did the HOA ever come out to inspect the pool; however, our HOA covenants state that any architectural designs must be approved. I contacted them after ours was approved to ask about the change in design and was told that if I made a change, I would have to resubmit the entire thing and wait again for approval. I didn't want to take any chances. I tend to be very much a rule follower. It also would have to have gone back to the city. So, we could have done that and made the changes, but we decided against the wait.

Many HOAs, like ours, has an ARC committee that is staffed by volunteers. Ours only meets once a month, so depending on when you submit it can take a month for approval. Resubmitting can add another month.

So glad I dont live in an HOA. I am that person who believes once I buy something, it's mine n I don't want somebody telling me I can't do something. It's mine. I bought it!!! LOL

My wife was not very keen on buying in a HOA, especially when she when read all the rules listed in the CC&Rs (Covenants, Conditions & Restrictions). The homes in our new community were very close together, vs our previous area were they were all on one acre or more lots. I said:"Imagine we wind up across the street from the worst neighbor in history....junk cars in the front setting on blocks, weeds and junk in the yard, house has peeling paint, and when he does paint...it's PURPLE with yellow trim! Now these rules tell him what he can't do". Suddenly those rules don't seem so restrictive. Everybody agrees there should be some restrictions, they only complain when the rules are applied to them.

My wife not only agreed to buy the house, but she's now the president of the board of directors of our 1,326 home HOA. A local HOA is only as good as the people involved in it. Anyone who complains about theirs should get involved. Sign up for a committe, run for the board. In our community, there is usually a shortage of volunteers. Anyone running for the board usually get elected.

It's true. I've not had any issues. Our HOA has not been turned over to the owners yet. It is still building . But I think we have minimal representation. I've never had an issue with any of it. Those who complain generally are not wanting to follow rules.

Well that's great that it works for you. We don't have one n I'm grateful! We keep a nice yard and so do our neighbors.
