Hack My Pool

Gotcha. No it’s not. I’m going to have him boost to 8 so they can play and hang in the pool. I can adjust it when I get home tomorrow.

Since you lost 10ppm over 2 days, you’re losing about 5ppm a day. If you bump FC to 8, then lose 5ppm over a day, that leaves you at just 3ppm, which is the absolute minimum for a CYA level of 40ppm. Personally, I would bump FC to 10 to give you a little wiggle room and keep FC away from minimum.

Having a few extra ppm of FC in the water is cheap insurance against accidentally dropping too low then having to perform a SLAM.

Daughter’s stupid friend didn’t add any of the chemicals… so I’m at ground zero.

FC: 0
PH: 8.2+
CYA: 40
TA: 190

Going to get FC back to SLAM target of 16.
Then work on PH…

To say I’m mad is an understatement
So fun.

One day at low/no chlorine doesn't guarantee anything brewing. Folks take a day or three to fill before dosing all the time.

But if the event happened frequently, then the odds of getting bit skyrocket.

Since you’ve run low & also went to zero may wanna do an
Overnight Chlorine Loss Test.
If you pass it may be time to reevaluate your cya & increase it a little to help protect more fc from the sun.
If being away is something you do often you might want to look into a swcg to feed your pool instead of relying on others.
You’d want the 15k gal intex one.

Okay - I’ve done one of these.

We had a huge surge in temp here lately too - mid70s, spiking to mid90s in about 2 days. I also noticed my pool water temp is up about 4° so I’m sure I’m losing water and ultimately losing chlorine.

I added chlorine and muriatic acid earlier today to get stuff back in “check”. I’ll run FC tonight after sunset (9:30 ET) and grab FC in the morning too (6:15 ET - if my body lets me get out of bed… I’m still stuck on Mountain time from heading to Denver)

Are there any other measures I need to pay attention to at this point? Or is it FC and PH primarily?

See what the oclt says- if you pass then bump the cya up a notch. (+10ppm)
Chlorinate accordingly going forward. If you don’t pass- slam time.
fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞🤞

I’m starting to think my FC was wrong last night… I just measured and I’m at 16. Which is SLAM level.

I’ll run another OCLT tonight… either way I’m strong on chlorine.

PH is high again. 8.2+. So I’ll work on dropping that down into range too.

Remember the ph test isn’t right when fc is above 10.
Let it ride until fc falls

FC - Big Ol’ fat ZERO
PH - Between 7.5-7.8 - more orange than the pic leads you to believe

I’m working my way back to SLAM level… and then I’ll work on PH.

Wash… rinse… repeat…

Oh and Joe Dirt is making an appearance (again…)
