Hack My Pool

Belle got the weird lookin bird float, huh ?

We often yell at them but we've also yet to be murdered by something we thought was harmless. So I dunno. 🤷‍♂️
Bahahaha! Belle did lose her mind on the bird float, but she’s coming around to it. The bronco-bull float though… suspicious for sure.

That things an animal. I mean. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN DANGIT !!!!! It took an impressive beating for a long time.

It finally died at a blowout party with 35 swimmers. About 1/4 of the swimmers were trying to toss the rider for hours, many attacks were from the 106th airborne division, and it still took most of the party to kill it.

I've seen mention of the 'pentek?' filters in this thread, but would something like this work for refills and alleviate the need for constant filtering after a fill? Polyfill won't do a bunch unless the iron is in a certain state and FC levels at slam, correct?

They claim 20 micron filtering and the Wiki states iron needs 3 micron.

Correct. In Jess's case here, the fill water is so gross, the poly works right from the well. Most add clear water from the hose which then poofs green once it mixes with the chlorine in the pool. For the others, poly won't help on the hose.

Supposedly they have a filter which filters down to 0.5 microns and a larger 5 micron filter.

I am setting up an appointment with my Plumber across the street to see what he has on some serious filtration. Outside of using my RO water directly from the pump in the garage (which I DO NOT want to do) I'm at a loss here.

A friend of mine who has been the brains to my Joe Dirt operation - we're going to essentially build a permanent filtration solution to dump from Sand Filter, into Poly Filter, then into pool - but not have it occupy the ladder while doing so. Joe Dirt really has to come in handy when I fill from the hose - which I am also trying to avoid given the Green Disaster that unfolds (and takes 2 days to recover)

Got it. Wasn't pitching that filter specifically, just the idea that if there was one out there, it may be easier than routing house plumbing out to the pool on a daily basis.

No doubt. All help is welcome, especially on a challenging rarity that we don't see everyday. Maybe somebody hits a home run. :)

which of course looks like they don’t have in stock
We don't have Menards by me, but from your description it sounds exactly like this place we call homedepot. You cannot buy 4 common things without trips to 9 homedepots in 2 counties.

Home Depot is Dang near the same.

But yes you go in with one list, buy what you need. Get home, create another list, go back… rinse and repeat…

FC 5
PH 8.0

Raise FC
Drop PH

Another rinse and repeat

Well hot dog... turns out I'm half-way there - I test PH and FC daily (got into that habit pretty quick). I clean my little skimmer fella nearly daily - especially while Joe Dirt is in action. Also - grass - jeeebus... the grass...
I also got into the habit of cleaning the pool a lot while Joe was in action - that nice little rust cloud at the bottom middle of the pool taught me that lesson pretty quick. And now that I can get in, and see every nook and cranny, I'm brushing it pretty often.

I think the only thing to get into "check" is adding water. That's a source of my pain and suffering... so if I can get that nailed down, I'll be in far better shape!

One more question - and I know it's somewhere in the 18 pages of messages - to clean the rust line on the vinyl siding - I read ascorbic acid (AA) and vitamin C... and to NEVER trust a Magic Eraser. Is there actually a good and safe way for me to do this, given all the rust issues, and high chemicals?

You gotta crush them up.
I just beat the sock with a meat tenderizer hammer for a minute.

If you’re getting alot of debris from people’s feet 🦶 in the pool get a dish pan to dip feet in or some even use a small kiddie pool & sit the ladder in it so you have to rinse your feet.
My kiddos always rinse theirs as a habit since it has always been what we do.
Be sure to dump it out at the end of the day so it doesn’t get gross
