Hack My Pool

Meet Joe Dirt Junior IMG_7844.jpeg
My original pump that came with the pool wasn’t keeping up, so I have repurposed it to a housing for the poly… because you guessed it… poly in the pool.

Nylon sock full of poly, shoved where the canister filter goes. No power to it - just simply serving as a “port” for additional filtration.

Increases my PSI slightly - up from 5s to low 7s, I’ll keep an eye on it…

Talk about hacking my pool, right?!

Today I was educated by my 9 year old pitbull that my pool floaties are not welcome on the property.

The pool floatie in question:

I’ve never heard my dog growl as much as she has seeing this thing float around the pool. It’s hilarious.
This post is worthless without pics (plural) of your puppy.

And as far as cutting holes in the side of the pool - nope, wait on that.
If you are running hoses back to the pool - zip tie them to the rail near an upright or attach with zip ties to the ladder somehow.

Does you house water filtration have enough capacity to add some refill make-up water to the pool?
Probably not practical for a full fill, but maybe doable for water loss due to evaporation?

If at all possible I would use the house water for top offs.
Btw - I love your new polyfill filter!
You’ve got the right idea about what I was suggesting with the skimmer. You would probably need to fill very slowly but it might do the trick.

FC is SUPER HIGH today… 15… I’m putting money on my fill having to do something with that. And the “shoot for 10”

PH is holding between 7.2-7.5… when it climbs, I’ll bring it back within low range

I’m going to try house water for top off… it’s very soft and very filtered… should I run a panel on it, or just try to fill and see how it goes?

The PSI on the tank is pretty high this morning. I’m gonna run to Wally World and get some thinner socks to put in Joe Dirt Jr (JDJr for those keeping up with me).

I also need coffee… that might be a priority…

Dropped a “pantyhose filled with poly” into JDJr… had a thin softball sock and I think that might be part of the issue. Filling from the kitchen sink now.

Gonna be a long day… my pool is green again… thank you terrible well.

I’m heading out of town for a couple days… ran a panel. Help me make sure I know what to balance:

FC 8.5
PH 7.8
CYA 40
TA 260

I *think* bring PH down to 7.2 (0.4 at a time)
Then
I *think* bring FC up to 10?

I’m having someone come on Saturday to check the pool, run FC and PH. And I’ll tell him how to adjust.

Sanity check appreciated!!

Good morning! Had my daughters friends run levels:
FC: 6
PH: 8.2

I’m having him drop the PH to 7.6

Should we increase the FC? Or leave it be for now?

I would bump up FC. Getting anywhere near minimum (the cliff), is toying with disaster.

Go #TeamRunHot! 😄👍
