Filling New Pool Q's

Discovered during today's brush...won't budge. Any ideas?
Are you referring to what appears to be those light brown and one darker color brown spot in the pic above? If so, I would try removing with products from lightest to most aggressive. For example: If clumpy, start with a putty knife > Magic Eraser > 1,000 grit wet sandpaper > 800 grit sandpaper > 400 grit sandpaper. When my pool was installed, the cement crew left all kinds of cement and grout lines running down the sides of my waterline. They weren't clumpy, just stains that were smooth. I used a combination of Magic Eraser and fine wet sandpaper to buff them out, so you might do a combination of the same. Whatever you try, always do a test area and let it dry if above the waterline to ensure you are happy with the result. Also an option, if you haven't done so already, is to contact your installer to let them know what a contractor did. Sometimes they will dispatch someone to work on it since you weren't personally responsible.

The light brown is just sand. The darker colour splodge is the cement. There is the larger piece I have posted and 1 smaller piece a bit further down the ledge. I think I will contact the pb first. It's set so I don't think it can get "more" set? At least that way I am acting under their advice.

A bit hard to tell exactly how hard it is without getting in but 16C is not my buzz for getting wet as much as it doesn't stop the kids. Maybe I can get it off with something not too aggressive with any luck.

As an aside the pool ran 6.5ppm FC at sundown today.

All looking in order.on that front.

4.0ppm plus the approx. 2.5ppm overnight. Approx 1.5ppm add during the day which is just ahead of break even by recent results. Should nose ahead tomorrow if all is in order. Will check CYA tomorrow afternoon and get that bearing.

Apologies if this is becoming a monotonous monologue :oops:

Retested a few parameters today
FC - still 13 drops for 6.5ppm but looks like the last drop had more work to do than yesterday - is that actually a thing or am I making things up?

pH - still calling it 7.6. no acid additions since last test.

TA - 80. Seems the couple of litres of MA to move the pH has made a slight dent here. I'm figuring I leave well enough alone if the pH takes a while to move back to 7.8+?

CYA - 50ppm. I can see why this one messes with people. Ran it a few times and reasonably confident I could see the dot at the 50ppm line, couldn't see it at the 40ppm line and lost the dot prior to hitting the 40ppm line.
 The cement spots I was worried about easily succumbed to the back side of the pool brush. Possibly overthinking things there. Crisis averted 😂

Keep in mind that the test only has a resolution of 0.5ppm (with a 10mp sample).

When the solution is still pink after 12 drops, then you know that FC is above 6ppm. If the next drop turns it clear then you know that FC is between 6 and 6.5ppm. For simplicity, we just call that 6.5ppm.

If the solution is just slightly pink after drop 12 and fully clear after drop 13 then FC is probably closer to 6 than to 6.5. If the solution is darker pink after drop 12 and fully clear after drop 13 then FC is probably closer to 6.5 than to 6. But distinguishing there is just reading tea leaves, just call it 6.5. That's good enough for our purposes, I just wanted to demonstrate that each test will look slightly different.

The CYA test is messing around with us. Best advice is to just glance and not stare at the dot (or the Erlenmeyer symbol in case of the CCL test) at the bottom of the tube. Best to quote Marty here with his advice:

  • Outside in full sun or use the brightest indirect indoor light that you can if you have to test at night
  • Back to sun
  • Don't stare at the dot as you pour
  • Fill to a line, hold the tube waist high, and glance at the dot
  • If you see the dot fill to the next line and glance at the dot
  • When the dot disappears you round up to the previous line. If you saw the dot at 40 and not at 30 then you call it 40

Awesome. The simple solutions are usually the best. Overthinking is part of the process. New toy syndrome, wears off over time. Mostly. Sometimes. Ever?

Thanks

I didn't know the app/forum had that functionality so I have likely set up something different between the two so they don't connect.

Can that be fixed?

Are you using the same login for PoolMath and the TFP Forum?

@Leebo can assist.

Hmm...

I can't see any way in pool math to access any account or login details for editing.

The "about TFP" info tab shows the google id that I purchased the app with but I don't see anywhere else with anything approaching a profile to edit.

The way to do it is to log out and login with your TFP credentials. However, you will not have your subscription if you do that.

Since you have your subscription on a different credentials that TFP, let @Leebo reach out when he gets this. He can help you reconcile the two accounts and the subscription...

@RookiePick

May I ask two really quick favors from you? First, can you send an email to [email protected]? Just drop any text into the chat and I’ll know what’s up. I’d mainly prefer chatting in private so any personal details like emails aren’t shared in the public.

Second, can you go ahead and log into PoolMath using the same info (username and password) you use for the forum? This will create a new PoolMath account linked to your forum account and I’ll migrate your data over once that’s complete.
