A Houston Pool Build Inside the Loop

Janny, no because the new we're slighter larger than the old so they wouldn't have interlocked. That had been the original plan.
We put in a call to the designer. We would like for him to come out and take a look. He hasn't called back but I'm guessing he's still on Spring break with his kids.

Marla, that makes sense. Did you say they were going to power wash the older stone? It looks very nice as is, but I'm thinking the older stone should only be weathered on the top layer.
I'll be interested to know what your designer suggests. Keep us posted. Your pool is so eye catching. It's truly going to be a beautiful focal point and center of relaxation for your family. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. [emoji3]

Marla, your pool is looking fabulous! OMG - brass drain plates and skimmer covers?!! So elegant!

I love all your materials - the glass tile, ledger stone, coping, etc. I think the bowl scupper is lovely - it will give a pretty waterfall. As far as keeping it clean, my pool guy set all our water features to run automatically for 5 minutes each day. He said it helps keep algae from growing in the feature pumps. But our pumps get a good bit of sun, so that may be why he said that. I would think running your scupper pump some each day would do the trick. But like Kim said, a dash of bleach would work, too. I'm just lazy!

I'm sorry the deck didn't turn out like you envisioned. Sometimes it takes a bit to transition from blah dirt to colors and patterns. But... I don't think I'd like purple-ish colors. Get what you love - it's worth it!

I'm so excited for you!! And congratulations on the upcoming new grandbaby!

Thanks Suz! Glad you stopped by! I always value your comments!

I hope the designer can stop by next week and give us some ideas. I think maybe a travertine that would compliment the coping better would be a better choice. But, we'll see.

I would encourage anybody in my situation, trying to transition from older to new materials, to just use a different material, especially if it's a darker material.

Marla,

Can you get some high gloss techniseal sealer and cleaner and take one piece of your old pavers and clean it up and treat it and see how it comes out? It might be that it will better match and you might have to seal everything. How does it look wet? Can you hose it down do they blend better wet? If so you might be able to get that look with sealer.

I personally love my deck way more when it is wet. I am thinking of now getting a wet look sealer so I can have that look all the time. The pavers just look dull to me when they aren't wet. Just a thought.

So with a HIGH!!! CC in your full water, several things come to mind. (Keep in mind that TFP uses a maximum value of 0.5CC as acceptable for OCLT's and everyday testing, and anything over that to usually mean trouble). One, you always need to remember that you have high CC refill water. that may sound obvious, but it's not really. Two, I would be to try to take advantage of rainwater for your top-offs. I do that and it is a matter of watching the weather carefully so that you can get "clean" refills, even draining a tad before a big storm. Three, if you ever need to SLAM, keep refills to a minimum. Four, your fill CC level hopefully will outgas quickly, so don't panic. Just remember that that CC exists when you add.

I have been partying most of the day so I hope that makes sense... I will reconsider my thoughts tomorrow!

The high CC in your fill water will be easy to overcome with Chlorine. You have the best test kit AND know how to use it! You will know how much chlorine to add when you need to add water after taking care of your pool for while. Keep a good log of your test results and you will know how your pool is going to react to any given happening.

Marla, have you decided what to do about your pavers yet or are you still waiting for the designer?

Denise, we are meeting with him Wednesday evening. It will be interesting to see what he says. I think I would just like to do a travertine that blends with the coping. I'm not sure how that would blend with the weathered pavers though. I guess I'll just need to be patient!

Marla,

Can you post a picture (I tried to look back and find one, so maybe you already did) of the existing paver section? If travertine is an option you are looking at, could you just replace all of the original pavers with travertine as well? Not sure how much existing you have though, so that could really add to cost.

I found a picture of both in post #759 Is that what you are looking for plat?

I had seen that one. Do you have one looking the other way? Just to make sure I didn't mis-understand, you are looking at the option of switching to travertine decking in the new area instead of the brick pavers? The reason I was asking about a photo looking the other way is just to see how much you would have to replace if going 100% travertine was an option you could consider.

Alternatively, after looking again at the photo in #759, is just replacing the old pavers with the new paver style and keeping the pattern squared off the pool an option? Again, no idea how much original paver there is to know if that would be a major or a minor change.

Marla he does have an idea there...........give back the new ones and sell the old ones to them for someone else to use and start all over with different ones OR remove the old ones and replace with all the new ones BUT ONLY if the cost is not equal to or more than T-stone.

BUT I would really like to see the old ones pressured washed just to see what they look like then.

BUT I also think I see you saying you really do not like the color of the new ones so.........you should get what you want and like (even if I do like the new ones).

Here is the pic from the other direction. I did a rough measurement and it's about 550 sf. We are planning on redoing the deck area and taking out the planter as a next year's project.

Kim, I'm not sure if the new pavers could be returned since they have already been laid. I will see if DH can power wash some of the old ones.
